On the bathroom threshold, Rowan swept a discerning eye over Zander’s unconscious form. Will had done an expert job. He wouldn’t be going anywhere any time soon. The bend of his knees made it impossible to see what Rowan was looking for though, so he crouched and shoved them aside to pat down his front pockets. He found the key ring in the right one, but he had to push Zander onto his side to reach the wallet in his back pocket.

He took both and scooped up his laptop on his way out. “Don’t start until I get back.”

Will followed him to the door. “Whatever it is you think you’re about to do, don’t. We can’t risk involving the police. That gets too messy to cover up.”
