Chapter 9

“Excuse me?”

“Are you family?”

Zeke frowned. “Why?”

“Only family members are allowed to see Nate Abraham.”

Why?It wasn’t like Nate just had a critical surgery. Even then, friends were usually allowed.

But, all right. If they wanted it that way, Zeke would play along. “Yes, I’m his cousin.”

The nurse huffed and checked the computer screen. “What’s your name?”

“Zeke Mitchell.”

“I’m sorry. Only Mr. Abraham and Mrs. Abraham can see him.”

“What? That’s nonsense.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t help you any further.”

Zeke couldn’t believe it. He didn’t know much about how hospitals worked, but he thought it wasn’t supposed to be this hard to visit a patient.

“This is impossible. Can I at least see Nate’s doctor?”

“Do you have an appointment?”

“No, of course I don’t have an appointment! I’m from out of town and Nate’s parents told me about Nate being here and I wanted to see him.”
