“Oh, you saucylass! No need to pretend you’re not pleased to see me,” Marcus shouted toward the door. He could already hear the guards shuffling away. He looked back to Helle. He would have never guessed she had ever been nobility, let alone queen. But then again, thesebarbariansmay have different expectations for their monarchs.

Demetrius motioned furiously toward the bed. His tone, however, was wisely lowered. “How dare you welcome royalty into such a mess! And you!” His judgmental gaze now slipped onto Marcus with malice. “You’re not even dressed!”

Marcus looked down at himself. He wore no tunic, but he had at least kept his undergarments on. He looked up at the sullen pair mischievously. “I’m sure it isn’t your queen’s first time looking upon a man. Or did your king never bed you?”
