Chapter 50

“Will this happen to me?” Driada asked, her eyes fixed on the markings.

“It will be easier if you submit to her. You will not suffer as long.”

“Why would I do that? She’s keeping me here against my will!”

The siren shook her head sadly. “If you were wiser, you would know there is no point in resisting her. But you will learn soon enough.”

“Well, I don’t intend to give in.” Despite her confident words, her tone seemed feeble.

“I’m Driada,” she replied. “I would give my rank, but it doesn’t seem to matter here.”

“No. None of that matters any longer.”

Driada pressed an open hand to her face. “This isn’t right. My queen will come to rescue me. She would never leave me here.”

“Ah, so you’re one of them,” the siren said, with a knowing smile. “However, even if she does realize where Penelopia has taken you, there is nothing she can do. Your fate has been decided.”
