Chapter 6

“Fuck.” The bear ducked, cradling Arvid to his chest, as twigs rained over them. “That was close, huh? We need to get out of here. I didn’t think it possible, but the wind is increasing.” The bear trotted up to the fallen tree, climbed over it, then he ran at a controlled pace. Each step jarred, and Arvid wanted to whimper as pain formed a bubble around him. He focused on his breathing as the surrounding sounds dulled, a buzz grew in his ears, and a floaty feeling overtook his mind. The trees bent over them, cracks coming from both behind and ahead.

Arvid hadn’t realized the dangers of a forest in a storm. He’d thought it’d give him shelter, not that he’d end up underneath a tree. The bear tried shielding his face from the worst of the rain, but he held Arvid’s shoe in one hand and Arvid in the other. Poor thing didn’t have any clothes on.
