Chapter 21

“Hey? You okay?”

He smiled, nodding. “Yeah.”

“Was this a soulmate-moment?” I pressed.

He smiled again, shrugging. “Not sure. It’s nice, though.”

“Yeah. It is.”

“I need to go pee.”

We had supper at the cafeteria. There seemed to be a bubble around us, in which no one entered. It’s like we were radiating the signal, “new love; do not disturb.” Admittedly, there was not much talk between us, just a lot of googly eyes and footsie back and forth. Scott kept smiling at his plate, and I felt a lightness, a giddiness, that I couldn’t remember ever feeling before. Was this love?

After supper, he and I wandered back to his dorm, fingers and shoulders brushing. We passed a few people I knew on the way. I greeted them; they all took one look at us and gave me a knowing smile. Wow, are we advertising that loudly?Scott didn’t notice; he seemed focused on keeping his body as close to mine as possible.
