REGISTERED HUNTER

"Congratulations, you've attained the rank of a C-rank hunter," the woman at the counter announced, presenting him with his newly acquired hunter card.

The hunter card had a sleek black background with elegant gold accents. At the upper left corner, his name was inscribed, followed by his age just below it. To the upper right, his photograph was embedded, and just beneath it, the colors of his hair and eyes were meticulously detailed. In the center left, his stats were meticulously displayed.

Exiting the building, Xin' gaze appeared fixed upon something ahead, as if anticipating a certain event. A few minutes after he departed from the floor where he had completed his hunter registration, while he stood upon the moving escalator, a sudden luminous blue message materialized in thin air before him.

"Congratulations for officially registering as a hunter within your realm," the message began.

"By the authority of Aequilus, you've been granted the opportunity to transcend the confines imposed by the universe's rules," it continued.

This remarkable phenomenon unfolds as a customary occurrence when awakeners achieve official registration as hunters. The genesis of this tradition stems from an awakener who assumed the title of a saintess. It is said that she received a divine message directly from the Gods, compelling her to convey the universe's governing rules to the global government.

In each realm, a solitary saint is chosen to bear a profound responsibility. These saints or saintesses serve as conduits of a divine blessing, endowing their respective worlds with the capacity to transcend the established limitations barring mortal entry into the tower. This tower holds immense significance, as it is believed to house the potential to unveil the universe's deepest mysteries.

However, the privilege of raiding the tower is reserved exclusively for those who attain the designation of official hunters. Upon achieving the esteemed status of official hunters, individuals are bestowed with a range of privileges as an outcome of this sacred blessing.

The saintess, bestowed with authority by the God of Order, possesses the ability to enact a single rule that aligns with acceptability. The guideline that mandates hunters to be a minimum of 18 years old was actually a decision originating from the mortals, born out of human nature and logic.

Should individuals considered unfit by the tower attempt to breach its bounds, they shall be confronted by the stone giants — formidable sentinels crafted by the Gods to stand as guardians of the tower. And even if these individuals manage to overcome these guardians and breach the tower's entrance, they are destined to vanish without a trace upon crossing its threshold.

Passive (NEW!)

Eternal Sacrifice: This passive taps into the awakener's life force, fueling all their attacks with 50% of their health while willingly expending 35% of their health for heightened power.

Ephemeral's Lifesteal: This passive enables the awakener to absorb 25% of damage dealt as life force, replenishing their health during combat. Ideal for bolstering survivability through high-damage attacks.

Examining the changes, Xin remarked, "Hmm, it appears there have been a few alterations, particularly the hunter title and the passive."

A message from the system emerged, stating, "Your passive is now visible on your status window! Note that you've always possessed a passive; it is only revealed now."

"You chose a fine time to reveal it! I nearly met my end because of this little feature," Xin grumbled, his memory drifting back to his encounter with the tower's colossal giants. It became apparent that these stone behemoths were his natural adversaries, as they had an absolute reflection ability.

"So that's why my health keeps dropping every time I attack. I was wondering what was up with that," Xin mused, his memory retracing his battles, particularly the recent encounter with the emberkins.

"But you know what? This feature is actually pretty darn useful. I can see why they held back on showing it earlier—it's like getting a sneak peek of your own hidden talents before stumbling upon them," Xin pondered.

"It's crazy, I thought I was only losing 20-30% of my health with every attack, but it turns out it's a whopping 35%! Thank goodness for that 25% recovery lifesteal, or I'd be in a real mess," Xin chuckled.

"And speaking of messes, my precious chaos power is shrinking like a scholar's patience during a long-winded lecture. I might as well rename myself 'Qi Flowing Xin' because I'm calling upon that skill more often than I take a breath!"

Stepping out of the building, Xin was greeted by a bustling scene. A swarm of people had congregated in front of the entrance – a mix of reporters and guild representatives on the lookout for potential recruits. Their attention was firmly fixed on the awakeners following in Xin's wake.

Liwei and Jingyi, who shared the same age as Xin, were renowned awakeners and the offspring of the esteemed hunters. Both hailed from the lineage of Liu Zhihao, the famed rank 1 hunter. Interestingly, both Liwei and Jingyi possessed S rank hunter cards, signifying their exceptional talents. Liwei had remained his natual dark brown hair and his eyes a deep ebony hue. In contrast, his sister Jingyi sported dyed silver hair, giving her a unique aura. It appeared that fortune favored them in the genetic lottery.

Liu Zhihao, a revered SS rank hunter, bore the title of Thunder Lord. His mastery over thunder, an element known for its devastating power against foes, propelled him to claim the top rank. His class bestowed him the ability to generate and manipulate thunder at his whim. Notably, Liu Zhihao was also recognized as a drifter, contributing to his staggering level approaching the 1000s. It was a common trend among high-ranking drifters to attain such elevated levels of prowess.

After a bit of struggle, Xin managed to break through the swarm of people. Unexpectedly, a woman donning a suit approached him.

"Excuse me," she said in a slightly condescending tone, "We would like to recruit you to our guild, the Silver Crescent Guild."

Xin looked around, clearly surprised. "Uh, it seems you might have mistaken me for someone else. Liu Zhihao's offspring are over there," he said, pointing towards the black and white-haired duo.

The woman's expression remained unruffled, her confidence unwavering. "No, we're well aware of that. We've seen you in action. While your stats might not be the most impressive, we see potential where others might not."

Xin raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Oh really? And what potential would that be?"

The woman's lips curved into a faint smile. "Your defense stats, primarily. It's true, your other stats and skills might be a bit lacking, but your exceptional defense could make you an asset."

Xin folded his arms, looking skeptical. "So you want to recruit me because I'm good at getting hit?"

The woman chuckled softly. "In a way, yes. But not just that. We value strategic potential, and someone who can hold their ground is crucial in certain situations."

Xin crossed his arms, clearly considering the offer. "And what would be in it for me? Why should I join the Silver Crescent Guild?"

The woman's smile widened slightly. "Benefits, of course. Access to our extensive network, advanced training, resources, and the chance to grow under the guidance of experienced hunters."

Xin nodded thoughtfully, his eyes locked onto the woman. "I'm grateful for the offer, but I've got my own journey to carve out."

In reality, Xin simply disliked being told what to do. He was determined to either make his own guild or remain guild-less.

The woman's expression didn't falter. "Think about it. We're not offering this opportunity to just anyone. We see something in you, Xin."

Xin offered a half-smile in return. "Well, I'll think about it. But for now, I'll pass."

The woman extended a business card towards him. "Keep this. In case you change your mind."

Xin took the card and pocketed it. "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind."

As Xin turned to walk away, the woman's voice followed him. "Remember, opportunities like this don't come around often."

Xin cast a fleeting glance back at her, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "Yeah, yeah," he replied, his tone nonchalant as he casually waved a dismissive hand.

The woman's sigh was laced with exasperation, her annoyance evident in her tone. "Arrogance knows no bounds," she muttered, her voice tinged with frustration. "He'll come to his senses eventually, realizing his own limitations and begging for a place in our guild. It's probably best if I just move on. His defense might be noteworthy, but his overall potential is simply... average."
