The Zealous Uncle and Nephew

It's clear that Giselle doesn't fully believe Meir. 

Of course, she will not let him off the hook too easily. However, she has no concrete reason to doubt his alibi, either. 

"Fine..." she sighed in defeat. 

"Now, can you explain why your walk took more than a couple of hours?"

Meir snorts at that bitterly, making Giselle's brow twitch slightly. 

He's starting to feel more annoyed than nervous of being found out. More than two hours means no one even noticed he's gone until he didn't show up for dinner.

"Is this a joke to you, Meir?" Giselle snapped, eyes flaring with irritation.

"No, it's not a joke, Ms. Giselle," Meir replied with a clenched jaw.

He stares at the door behind her, digging his fingernails into his palms. His expression tightens, his lips forming a thin line. Then, he looks at her again, braced with another lie.
