"Are you willing to trust me?" Ercilia had asked Meir before Marius appeared.

He didn't know what exactly she meant by that, and he didn't question any further in favor of fussing over her. It could also just be that he got carried away with enjoying her company. He'd felt too soothed by her touch and presence, so he'd thought that everything would be okay from thereon.

'Turns out that it's just the calm before a storm,' Meir internally grimaced.

He runs faster than he ever has, the sound of his hasty footsteps thumping in his ears. Despite this, he still feels like he's running at a turtle's pace – like he's running in a bad dream.
