Contradiction

Nancy was dropped off at her house by Hertwig. He left her at the door of her house and drove off to his grandmother's house to return her belongings. Nancy opened the door and walked inside, her mother looking at her from the kitchen. She walked over to her daughter as soon as she spotted her entering.

"Who dropped you?" Her mother asked, wiping her hands off with a towel while walking out of the kitchen.

"Hertwig," Nancy muttered, placing her handbag on the table and sitting down on the couch wearily.

"And Samuel? Did he really leave?" Her mother asked, sitting down beside her.

"Hmm." Nancy nodded slowly, unwillingly, and regretfully.

Laura sighed deeply. Nancy could hear the remorse in her mother's sigh. She could tell how special Samuel was to everyone.

"He didn't see Roth before leaving." Nancy quietly said. "Do you think he'll be fine? Roth, I mean." She asked.
