Chapter 6 Habit or Love

Everyone present heard the crisp sound.

Chloe and Lisa Field looked at each other and froze on spot.

"Don't be so rash in the future," In the end, Daniel came over and relocated the guardrail beside the bed.

"Mr....Mr. Bruce" Lisa noticed Daniel was here and couldn't help sweating.

Facing the noble and cold Daniel, Lisa, the outgoing and bold girl, became quiet suddenly.

Daniel nodded slightly and looked down at Chloe in a towering position, his dark pupils as deep as an abyss and imprisoning her tightly in the dark.

Chloe felt nervous with his gaze. When she got nervous, she couldn't help biting her bottom lip, just as she was doing right now.

Stunned for a moment, she suddenly realized that she didn't do anything wrong, so there was no reason at all for her to be nervous.

With this in mind, Chloe coughed softly and made an order comfortably, "Well, Mr. Bruce, there are some private conversations between my best friend and me, so would you please give us some privacy?"

Daniel glanced at her with a meaningful look, but in the end, he left with the computer in his hand without saying anything.

The president of the Bruce Group was willing to leave just because Chloe said so, which shocked Lisa a lot.

She waited until Daniel left and closed the door. Then she breathed out deeply, "Good girl, Chloe! It looks like Mr. Bruce is totally under your control now."

Chloe rolled her eyes, "What are you talking about? I just canceled the engagement banquet last night and then I had a car accident. He was just taking care of me following his parents' orders. That's all!"

Chloe didn't tell Lisa that Daniel asked her to pay back twenty-five million since she knew Lisa would absolutely worry about her.

However, instead of showing sympathy, Lisa was thinking about something else.

Chloe had no idea what was in Lisa's mind but felt Lisa was plotting something evil.

"Chloe, you'd better seize the opportunity and win his heart once for all. This kind of opportunity never comes often." Knowing Chloe's affection for Daniel, Lisa encouraged her without hesitation.

But Chloe was silent.

She lowered her eyes, hiding her emotions. As she looked up again, she seemed relieved. "That's all right. I've made up my mind to stop loving Daniel and move on."

"What?" Lisa shouted in disbelief. The next second she realized they were in the hospital and hurriedly covered her mouth, "But…but you have been in love with him for so long…"

Her voice trailed off.

No one was clearer than Lisa about how much Chloe loved Daniel.

Daniel and Chloe had known each other since childhood. They were in the same high school, so Chloe often ran from her building to his between classes just to take a look at him.

Even if Daniel was absent sometimes, Chloe was still used to standing far away and looking at his seat.

It might sound sad to Lisa but in fact, these moments were the happiest time for Chloe.

Later, Daniel was arranged to study abroad by his family. Chloe waited outside his classroom and cried for a long time.

"You have been in love with him for years, haven't you? Do you really want to give up now?" Lisa asked again.

She hoped that Chloe made such a decision not because of a temporary impulse. Otherwise, Chloe would suffer more if she regretted it in the future.

Chloe stared at the wall, lost in her thoughts. It took a while before she finally parted her lips, "Yes."

Yes, she had been in love with him, but the unrequited love just exhausted her. She couldn't continue like this now.

"Good! If so, let me treat you to a big meal to celebrate. Nothing can heal your wound more quickly than a feast." Lisa regained her usual vitality and said to Chloe cheerfully.

Chloe turned her head and smiled, "OK."

When Daniel came back, Chloe was playing with the phone.

Seeing him, Chloe waved her hand casually, "You are back!"

Daniel was in a trance for a moment but nodded faintly.

The cell phone was ringing suddenly and startled Chloe. Daniel glanced at his phone, his face becoming gloomy.

After taking a look at Chloe, Daniel went out with his phone, "You got anything?"

Alex Wood, the police officer, said in a solemn voice, "It was a fake-licensed car, and he did a hit-and-run in front of the hotel. So we believe he deliberately wanted to hit the victim. Right now both the perpetrator and the vehicle have not been found, so we can't make a conclusion yet."

But who would do such a horrible thing to Chloe?

"I see. Thanks for the help and please continue investigating." Daniel said calmly.

"Never mind! I was too busy to attend your engagement banquet last night. Next time, I must have dinner with your fiancee and you!" Alex smiled softly.

Daniel smiled but didn't reply. Nor did he deny.

After hanging up, he glanced at the ward. Then he turned around and walked towards the rooftop.

He lit a cigarette, his fingers slender and sexy, the smoke obscuring his sight.

He lowered his eyes and frowned heavily, which made it impossible for others to guess what he was thinking.

"Daniel, I just went to the ward and you weren't there. Why are you hiding here?" Behind him came Nancy's elegant and soft voice. "Why are you smoking? I seldom saw you smoking before…"

Daniel didn't answer her, but asked coldly, "Is there something wrong?"

His lukewarm attitude made Nancy nervous, "I…I just want to ask you how Miss Chloe is feeling now."

Such a bad excuse.

She was the doctor, and now she was asking someone else.

Nancy realized the mistake and quickly explained, "Don't get me wrong. I am in the neurology department, not the orthopedics one. So I know nothing more than you."

Daniel didn't seem to hear what she had said. He took his time to finish the cigarette and answered, "She is alright."

Earlier, he heard her telling her friend energetically how she would move on and stop loving him. So he guessed she must have been more than just fine now.

But he didn't know why this disturbed him badly.

At the thought of Chloe's smiling face, Daniel was annoyed without any reason. He turned around and glanced at Nancy.

"It's six o'clock now, and you are still working?"

Nancy looked at him with a smile, "I shall get off work soon."

Without saying anything more, Daniel nodded, "It's getting late now. I need to leave."

Then he left without looking back.

'How can he just leave like this? Does he have even a trace of feeling for me?' Nancy was consumed by his neglect.

"Daniel," she called him.

He stopped.

Nancy wanted to say something, but in the end, she asked a question, "Tell me. How do you tell between habit and love?"

In fact, she wanted to ask if Daniel looked after Chloe because of habit or love.
