[Wind Blade] had reached level ten, so Roland could now evolve the skill.

[Skill Evolution Quest] [Wind Blade]

[Wind Blade evolves into Hurricane Slash]

'This shouldn't take a long time,' Roland thought. He already used wind blade a lot, and he was getting faster at using it as well. If he used it as fast as possible, he was able to shoot out ten blades of wind a second. It wouldn't take long to finish the first task. The second one was already completed as well.

'Wait a second,' Roland looked at his status page again. Where was [Ice Blade]? He had made that skill by using [Wind Blade] in a cold environment, but he didn't see it on the status page.

[Oh, right, I forgot about that. Gimme a second, I need to scan the eggs first.]

'Alright.' While he waited, Roland aimlessly used [Wind Blade] on the wall, thinking that the sooner he evolved that skill, the better. By the time he had cut a groove in the wall a few feet deep, the system spoke up.

[Alright, I'm done]

'And?'

[No good. I didn't find what we're looking for]

'Great.' Roland sighed. He had really hoped this wouldn't take too long. Anyways, he turned to head out of the cave. There was nothing else he could do here.

'What th-'

Roland froze. A large snake was slithering into the cave. Presumably, it was the parent of the eggs that lay deeper into the tunnel. It had a layer of thick green scales covering its body, and it had a rattle on the end of its tail, like a rattlesnake.

As it passed him, the snake gave him a strange look, as if it knew he wasn't supposed to be there, but it continued along the tunnel and disappeared around another bend.

As it left, Roland sighed in relief. When it appeared, he had used [Appraisal] on it and this was the result:

[???] [Lv. ?]

[Rating: Very Dangerous]

Of course, he had immediately stopped moving at that time and prayed it didn't notice him.

Still looking behind him to make sure it didn't follow him, Roland headed out of the cave. When he was outside, he flew a distance away from the cave and looked to see what the system had done to his status page.

'Finally,' Roland thought. The skill he made finally appeared on the status page. He looked at the status page one more time and remembered something.

'Oh yeah, I haven't tested out that skill the system told me to get yet.'

After he got the skill [Mana Barrier] from the shop, he hadn't used it at all. Since he had a lot of time to waste, he could go ahead and test it out the next time he met a beast.

Immediately, he set off towards the next closest monster den. On the way, he used [Wind Blade] on any trees in his path, seeing if he could complete the skill evolution quest sooner.

After ten minutes, he made it to the den. He had also completed the skill evolution quest while he was traveling, so [Wind Blade] had now become [Hurricane Slash].

He headed into the den, more cautiously this time. Again, the parents weren't home, and Roland reached the nest without a hitch.

He looked at the eggs inside. Each of them were about the size of a child, and the eggshells were white. They all had a slightly rough surface, kind of like a chicken's egg.

He waited anxiously for the system to be done. After the previous experience, he felt that the less time he spent in these dens, the better. Who knew when the parents would return home.

When it was done, the system had some good news for once.

[So, good news, I found something with enough potential]

'Anyone who says it like that usually has bad news as well.'

[It just barely met the requirement. I would recommend bringing the egg along and checking the other dens before you make a decision. If you find something better, just chuck this egg off of a cliff.]

'You would do that?!? Why are you being so inhumane?!'

[And you don't feel bad that you're going to be separating parents from their children? This is basically kidnapping you know.]

'... Fine.' Speechless, Roland grabbed the egg the system told him to bring along and flew away, using [Basic Mind Magic] to hold it. He exited the cave, hoping one of the parents didn't come back anytime soon and notice their missing child.

...

Anyways, for the rest of the day, he went from den to den, letting the system scan the eggs. Luckily for the egg in his possession, he didn't find anything with better potential.

'So what do I do with this?' Roland asked. The sun was starting to set now, and he was currently resting in the shade of a large tree.

The egg was laying nearby. He couldn't place any living thing in his storage space, so he had to hide it while he was searching the dens. It was too large and cumbersome, which was why he couldn't just bring it everywhere he went.

Still, he didn't have many options, he would still have to wait for the egg to hatch. For the system to do the soul connection thingy, it would require it to be hatched first, so he wasn't able to do anything earlier.

'Are there any methods of making it hatch earlier?'

[I wouldn't know. I wasn't originally from this world]

Roland raised a non-existent eyebrow. Was he finally getting some backstory?

'Then where are you from?'

[You don't need to know.]

'Why not?'

[I don't need a why. You don't need to know, that's all there is to it]

'...Fine' Roland knew he wouldn't be getting any answers from the system, so he turned back and stared at the egg. He had no idea when it would hatch, and bringing it around was very tedious. If he accidentally knocked it against a rock, that was all that was needed for the egg to break.

[I might be able to find a way to hatch it earlier if you give me some SP]

'And what is your definition of "Some"?'

[A little over 1000]
