Through the Air

"I can't believe we got into ISSAFE..." Phoenix says, the last word slurring out of her mouth as if it wasn't real.

"I know, do you think we still have to go to school, then?"

"Well, I'm not sure, because we have to do training and such, so."

Sapphire looked at her sister and smiled, tucking herself into her cozy bed that had a large white blanket on it, covered with meteors and nebulas from all around the galaxy.

"Well, I'm full off those cinnamon rolls, I'm going to sleep," Sapphire says, turning her head towards the wall that her bed was up against. Phoenix lets out a dark giggle, getting up and turning off the light. She walks back to her bed, seeing the words on her blanket as they light up in the dark. She sighs, as her biggest dream had just come true. Not only hers, but 5 other people were probably doing the same thing she would be doing. Lay in bed, looking at the ceiling, daydreaming about the numerous missions that they'd all go on.

She wondered who was on her team and if she'd get to meet some interesting people there. Of course, she would, of course, it's ISSAFE. Only the top-rated people on the planet can go into ISSAFE.

"ISSAFE...International Space Station Away From Earth," she repeated to herself. She could already see that Sapphire was asleep, her dreams seeming to create a bubble on her head. It was then that Phoenix got an idea. She was going to stargaze by herself.

Multiple times, she did that already. Sapphire has, too, because even though they're sisters, they both look at different things through the telescope. Sapphire liked to look and sketch the planets. After that, she'd calculate multiple things and share them with Phoenix. Phoenix would calculate the probability of life, and how long it'd take to get there. Then they'd put all their information in a folder that was stored in a file cabinet. It had 5 drawers, each one designated for different space objects. The first was stars, which they do most research on. Through the telescope they've seen some, their eyes paying for it a little, but since they're far away it didn't affect them much. The second was about planets, the first ones being the very ones in the solar system they're in now. Then start the ones that other astronomers have discovered, and then one that they have discovered and kept to themselves.

It was one night when Phoenix was stargazing with Sapphire. Sapphire was sketching a planet she had just seen, and Phoenix was looking at the different features of this planet.

"Hey Saph, have you ever heard about this planet?"

"Hmm, nope. It looks odd too. I can't really see what it looks like, but it is very bright."

"How could we now just see this?"

"Well, it could've been closer, and now it's probably further away."

"I wonder how far away it is now. How far is it now?"

"Well I looked it up, and it's not coming up. I've looked through an entire encyclopedia of all planets discovered and I can't find it. No description matches, no photo matches, nothing."

"That's odd, should we tell mom and dad?"

"Maybe we shouldn't. Maybe it's a false alarm."

"You're probably right. Let's see if it's there tomorrow though."

"Yeah."

The third one was split into different sections. Each section regarded different celestial objects such as nebulas, quasars, and pulsars. They split them each into different sections so they wouldn't get confused, yet they don't have much about them. The fourth one was their favorite, as it was the drawer of their theories. These theories include white holes, wormholes, cold spots, and more because even in this day and age, scientists don't have that many answers. The last one, however, was the emptiest one. One they barely touched. It was about black holes and neutron stars. Primarily, that's what Sapphire aspired to study, but even she got stuck as something didn't sit right with her about these creations. However, she didn't let that stop her, and even if there aren't many papers in the folder, there were enough for them.

As all these thoughts raced through Phoenix's head, she stared through the telescope and saw the planet that they decided to name Tolia. She thought it was a beautiful name, and she even talked to the planet when Sapphire was asleep. She'd say that the planet knows her deepest and darkest secrets, and it probably does. She hoped that that planet was only discovered by them and nobody else and that she could keep it to herself.

It was now time for Phoenix to sleep. She got tired and said goodnight to Tolia, and walked inside her room, closing the patio door and locking it. She climbed into her bed, facing the wall just like Sapphire did, and closed her eyes, her dreams connecting with her sisters as they raced through the air and into space. Together.
