A rift between families

Jody looked from Sarah to Emily and then to James and the three friends. The tension in the air was too much to bear.

“Is my son alright?” Emily spoke with panic in her voice.

“He is absolutely fine,” Jody responded.

“You can ask about your son, huh? Didn’t you hear what happened to my daughter?” Sarah scoffed, eyeing Emily.

“I’m so sorry Sarah. I still don’t understand any of this,” Emily apologized.

“My daughter was together with your son last night. What do you not understand?” Sarah said coldly.

“Oh please. Are you trying to hold Dylan responsible for this? You can’t accuse him that way because my son would never do anything of such.” Emily defended.

“Sarah, it’s alright.” James tried to stop her.

“If your son wasn’t dating my daughter, all these wouldn’t have happened.” Sarah murmured aloud.

“And if your daughter had turned him down at the first place, all these wouldn’t have happened.” Emily retorted.

Carl looked at Bella and Chloe.

Now there’s a rift between both families.

“Can you hear yourself out?” Sarah flared. “Are you trying to ignore the news about your son killing my daughter?”

Bella and Chloe gasped at once.

“MY SON IS NOT A MURDERER!” Emily shot at her angrily.

“Please, that is not the next thing right now.” Jody spoke and Sarah rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

“Come in, please,” Jody urged and Adam flung the door open with a lady behind him, holding a paper in her hand.

“Good morning detective Jody.”

“Morning Rose. Is the report ready?”

“Yes, it is.”

“Okay. Tell me what you’ve got.”

“While analyzing the blood samples, we noticed that there are two blood samples. One is blood type O and the other is blood type B.

“Wait!” James interrupted and everyone gazed at him. “Jane is… Jane is also blood type O. does that mean…”

“We can’t conclude yet Mr. Hemsworth.” Jody cut him off.

“That’s all I’ve got. If we can get the body, we would be able to get better result.”

“Okay Rose, you can leave now,” Jody said and Rose took her leave.

“Carl, you should also leave with Bella and Chloe.”

Without any word, the three left the room quickly.

Jody faced the couple whose eyes were at the door where Carl and the frest just left.

“Mr and Mrs. Hemsworth, I’m so sorry abo…”

“Just hold it right there.” Sarah cut her off and stood up. “Let’s go James.”

“Wait, she can still…”

“No! I told you already that coming here was useless. She doesn’t even have any proof or evidence. How can we believe her? They can’t find James body so definitely she’s still alive and she’s going to come back to us. I am leaving.” Sarah walked out of the room angrily.

“I’m so sorry James. I never knew any of this happened. I only got a call this morning that Dylan got arrested for murder.”

James took in a deep breath before replying. “It’s alright Emily. I just hope your son gets released soon.” He turned to face Jody, “Please detective, I am sorry about my wife’s attitude. She’s just trying to be strong. She is trying hard not to believe. I know she is breaking inside too but please you have to bring James back even if it’s just to see her face for the last time.”

“I’ll try my best Mr. Hemsworth,” Jody said and watch him leave before returning her gaze to Emily.

“This is so hard to believe,” Emily lamented. “Can he get a bail; I mean Dylan?”

“No, not now. We have to be sure and be able to prove that he is innocent first.”

Emily’s face fell.

“am I allowed to see him?”

“Yes sure! Let’s go now. Adam? Lead the way please,” Jody said and they walked out of the room.

The door to where Dylan was flung open and on sighting him, Emily burst into tears.

“Mom?” Dylan was surprised and he rushed to hug his mom.

“I’m so sorry baby. I’m sorry for being helpless.” Emily sobbed in his arm.

“No mom, it’s not your fault. I’m so sorry for putting you through this.” Dylan cried as he spoke and they stood like that for few seconds before Jody interrupted the moment.

“I’m so sorry to interrupt, Mrs. Emily, but you have to leave,” Jody said in a polite manner.

Slowly, Emily disengaged from the hug and touched Dylan’s face. You are going to get out of here very soon. I can’t bear to leave you here alone all by yourself. Promise me you will be strong till then. Don’t give up,” Emily tried hard not to cry.

“I promise you mom.”

Emily withdrew from him and was led out by Jody.

“MOM!” Dylan cried hard as he watched his mom leave and the door was shut again.
