Chapter 7: The Origin

When we worked through the doors to our destination, it wasn’t remotely close to what imagined. I was expecting a warehouse with dusty interiors, but what I saw was a cottage with a modern and homey interior. She caught the glint in my eyes, “I bet this wasn’t what you imagined.”

“Not close, its better and I like it.”

“That’s good, because you will be here till you are no longer a wanted man.” She placed her bag on the couch and doubled back to me, “We will get through this together Bruce, trust me.”

“I do, but I need an urgent favor.”

“If my guess is correct, you are worried about your family and how worried they’d be if you don’t show up past a certain time.”

I ran my hands through my hair for a moment, “close to the mark, but not bulls eye.” She frowned for a moment and sent me a look that said go on, “My parents had to take an emergency flight outside the country this morning, they would be gone for three months which if all was good, it wouldn’t be a problem. They go on these types of trips and rose and I can hold the fort till they return. But with them gone, Rose is the only one at home and since I already told her about all this,” I gestured to myself and Amy, “She would be freaking out if she doesn’t hear from me.”

Staying nothing, Amy walked into the kitchen and came back moments later holding a coke six pack. She gestured towards the couch and let herself fall to the edge of the couch. “After lunch, I filled Jake in on what we discussed during lunch and right now he is parked outside your house ensuring no one invades your home.” She paused for a moment and looked at me. “Since you your parents are not at home and Rose knows Jake and Rose also knows about everything you told me so far, wouldn’t it be more strategic to have Jake go in and fill her in on everything.”

“That way he can keep a closer watch and at the same time saves me the stress of relaying everything to her myself.” I open a can of coke as I considered. “I like the idea, but I'm guessing you need to inform Jake and I need to give Rose a heads-up before Jake gets to the door.” She smiled with a nod as we both brought out our phones in sync.

It took about six minutes for us to finish informing the respective parties on the new play. Rose who had no prior idea that my life was in danger wasn’t thrilled to learn that I was somewhere she couldn’t reach me. She had of course opted to be driven to meet me, but I wouldn’t have her anywhere near me at the moment. As could be expected of her, she promised to drill and interrogated all she could from Jake, even if she had to pry the information of him with food, which she could actually do.

“So tell me, are you and Morgan a thing?” Amy slid back into the couch with a bottle of water. “Are you making small talk now or are you just inquisitive?”

She let a smile form now, “a little bit of both, but it’s important that I know the nature of your relationship with her.”

“Well if you must know, I have no idea, we communicate well in class and more when she came to check up on me at home yesterday.”

“She did what?” The alarm in her voice had me worried now, especially with the way she drooped the water on the table.

“She came over to my house we just chilled and read, what’s the problem?” I tried to be relaxed, but then I remembered the annoying vibration I felt the first day I met her.

“Bruce, listen carefully,” she paused for a moment. “Morgan is not human.”

“What do you mean she’s not human, what is she?”

“Let me finish,” she said impatiently now. “She’s not like us and she’s not human. I mean on a wider scale she’s human, but not totally.”

“You are not making any sense Amy.”

“That’s because I have told you everything you need to know, but I will in a minute. But you need to stay away from her if you want to keep breathing.”

“Why?”

“Because she’s an Arc hunter,” it felt like the air was still for a moment and I could feel the stillness of the air molecules.

“ The what now?”

“Arc hunters and they have hunted and our kind from the first age of man.”

“And what do we call our kind?”

She waited a beat I could tell this wasn’t a conversation she was used to having. “Celestians, we are known as the Celestian Knights.”

I turned my gaze to the celling it was hard to imagined Morgan coming after me, killing me. I had been alone with her and she didn’t kill me, could it be that she didn’t know or did she suspect and her trying to get close to me was to find confirm her suspicion. At the moment, the image of her ring daggers flashed boldly in my mind, I could see her slicing my throat with them and my blood splashing warm on her pretty face as she smiled with satisfaction.

I looked back at Amy now, “why do they hunt celestians, did we offend them in the past?”

“No, it’s just their nature, it’s the way they are designed, it’s the purpose for which they were born. Did you discus any of these with her when she came over to your house?”

“No, Rose is the only one I told.” I saw her relaxing now, reaching for her coke.

“I guess better give you a crash course on our history and origin,” she said after taking a big gulp of her coke.

“I guess so too,” I took two deep gulps of coke and set my can on the table. For what was about to come next, I believe I needed as much caffeine as I could get.

“I know you will have questions, but please wait till I'm done, I don’t want to be interrupted.” I simply nodded at her request as she cleared her throat.

“From the dawn of time light and darkness have being at war over dominance of the universe. Light was pure and wise while darkness was malicious and deceitful. Darkness was out to prove that it was better than light so it created its own version of everything created. They fought for ages with no one giving in as they drive for universal dominance was strong and consuming on each side. Seeing that they made no progress and they were nowhere close to gaining dominance over each other, they sought help from an entity known as the noble force.”

“Noble force, sounds like the title of a space movie.”

The hot glare she shot at me had me feeling a chill at my spine. “I'm sorry, please continue.”

She took in a breath and continued, “the entity presented them with a deal, in what could be described as the longest and toughest tournaments in the history of existence, especially since it’s still ongoing and we are part of the players. The entity created this particular solar system and picked earth as the battle ground or tournament ground as some would call it. The deal was simple, both light and darkness would deposit their seeds on earth and the seed that destroys the other on earth would dominate the universe. So if the seeds of darkness dominate the seeds of light on earth, then darkness would automatically gain dominance of the universe and vice versa.” She paused for a moment studying the can.

“The seeds of light are called the Celestial Knights and the seeds of darkness are called the Rouge Celestials. After both parties agreed, the entity included a wild card in this tournament to create a challenge, a race of humans were gifted with the talent, skills and weapons to hunt and kill celestial beings on earth. They are not basically aware of the distinction between our kind to them we are all but one. They have been known as the Arc Hunters. Their job is to ensure that the supernatural world doesn’t overthrow the humans, so to do that, they hunt and kill us. Jake and I are part of the Celestial Knights and I believe after I clear your name, you will be too. We have been fighting an age long war on two fronts and you just stumbled right in the middle of it.”
