The beach sand felt so cool against my skin. I sighed. Why didn't I do this more often?
I watched Ann play with the water. Her red hair flying out of place. She looks happy. I got up to join her.
"Having fun?" I asked her smiling so widely.
"Yep. We should do this more often." She said in glee.
"Just what I was thinking." I laughed and played with the water. We kept spraying each other water and trying to keep away from it at the same time. It was fun. So much fun. She ran out of the water and I chased her. I finally got hold of her and pulled her onto the sand. She gasped as I tickled her.
"Please..no,no more."she said in between laughs.
I tickled her once more and pulled away. She sat on her ass and tried to contain her laughs.
"See,if you ditch school more often you'll have fun."I said to her.
She stuck out her tongue at me." You are a rebel."
"And you are a killjoy." I stuck out my tongue at her. We giggled.
"Let's go get ice creams."she said and we left for the ice creams, getting two scones of vanilla and chocolates. It felt young again when i smeared her chin with my ice cream. She cringed from the coldness and laughed as she wiped her chin.
"Looks like you are having fun."a shrill voice said.
It felt so awfully familiar. I lifted my head and found her standing in front of us in her bikini alongside her minion. Yep her minion and the fool had no idea about it. Basically in highschool she was her handbag.
"What do you want Fernanda?" I finally spoke. I was glad I didn't sound like a mouse. Good job Lisa I mentally gave myself a thumbs up.
"I saw you and decided to say hello. You know, the other day,I met your mom and sent you my greetings through her. Did she pass the message?"she had this aura I didn't like. Something I failed to notice while we were friends.
I stood feeling this sudden courage to face her." I got your message quite alright. The thing is what the hell do you want?" Wow. I sounded like my bitchy self again just like in highschool, you know, before the whole drama thing.
She smiled. I mean really smiled. "Good to know you haven't changed that much."
I was beginning to hate her guts. I mean she ruined highschool for me and here she is talking to me like nothing ever happened. Ann held my shoulder and gave it a squeeze. It was her reassuring me she got my back. She gave her a small nod.
"You have such a beautiful friend Lisa." Fernanda said again.
I folded my arms across my chest. "Cut the chase Fernanda, what do you want?" I was crossed.
"Look, stop the attitude okay? I came to apologize. It's been five years since the incident and I feel horrible about it. I mean you were my best friend and I was blinded by jealousy and heed to the words of..."
"Jealousy?" I interrupted her. She nodded.
She walked few feet's from me and started talking." Every guy wanted you. Every girl wanted to be you. I mean look at you,you are gorgeous, intelligent and full of life. It was like you had the perfect life. Then Gail came along,"
I rolled my eyes at this point but allowed her finish." I wanted him. He was the one thing I wanted but he chose you over me. Nothing I said to him mattered. It was you and only you. Imagine how I felt. What if you were in my place, you would have done the same." She finished.
"I would have done nothing Fernanda. I would have let you know I had a crush on Gail. That is what I would have done in your shoes. Thanks to you I'm still walking in the shadows of your lie."
Pearl finally spoke up. "Sorry Lisa. We really are. We've grown up and figured out what we did was wrong."
I stared at them. I didn't believe them. They were bunch of liars. I'm sure they wanted something that was why they were nice.
The sun went down and I turned to Ann" let's go home."
She nodded.
"Lisa.."
I turned to look at Fernanda. "Forgive me please."
I didn't say anything but walk away with Ann beside me. She was the only friend I needed.
We walked towards where we parked the car and got in. Then I realised I didn't have my phone. I must have left it on the beach.
"Ann I think I left my phone on the beach."
"Hurry up and get it. It's already getting very dark." She said and I nodded and left the car.
I got to the spot we were sitting before and searched for my phone but I couldn't find it. I searched in frantic desperation but didn't find it. I wondered where I kept it.
No one was in sight neither Fernanda or Pearl. "The bitch." I muttered when I realized she might have it. I was about marching back to the car when something caught my eye. It was glittering on the sands beside the tall Palm trees.
I walked over and discovered it was my phone. I was so happy and felt my heartbeat decrease.
I looked at the Palm trees and I could swear I saw someone or something. It must be hiding.
I thought it was Fernanda and I wanted to know what she was up to. Curiously I walked into the Palm trees oblivious to the fact that everywhere was becoming pitch dark.
Mist surrounded me and the howls of birds reached my ears. I was freaking out. I was scared. I wanted to run out of this place. Since when did the beach become scary and ghostly.
I could feel the presence of another person.
"Hello,"I called out in fear. I walked backwards and stumbled upon a tree. At least that was what I thought. But it felt soft and hard at the same time not like a rough tree.
I turned to see a young man standing in front of me. He smiled.
"Hello." He said.
His eyes were deep red and when he opened his mouth,he had fangs. I screamed before he could bury them in my neck.
"Lisa?"
It was Ann's voice. Suddenly I was on the ground and he was gone. I've never felt so glad to hear her voice in my life. I stood up and she came to me.
"What are you doing here? I was waiting for long and when I couldn't find you,I came here searching."
I was nervous and sick to my stomach. I felt really scared.
It was just like my dream. Dreams I never believed could come through. No it can't be. It was just a coincidence. He had fangs! My head screamed.
"Lisa?" Ann called out more louder.
"Did you see him?" I finally spoke.
She looked around." Who?"
"A man was here,he had fangs and was ready to bite me."
Ann stared at me like I've lost it. I couldn't blame her I felt crazy too. She held me and walked out of the beach. "Let's go home."
Was all she said.
I wasn't crazy. I knew what I saw. I saw a vampire. Just like in my dreams. Ann drove us home.
I didn't want to believe it myself but I had to. What I saw was not an imagination. It was real. I had to find out what was going on with me and I needed to do it quick.
