Chapter 8
In a cafe near the central park, Embra is seen to be waiting for Yuki who is parking her bike. At first, he wanted to just talk in an alleyway but, he didn't want to get into a difficult situation in case a fight break out, hence, changing the meeting place to the nearby park.
At least this way, he should be able to minimize causality, is what he was thinking, but, unfortunately for Embra, Yuki has no intention to fight in the first place as she is just here to satisfy her curiosity.
A few minute later, Yuki walks forward to Embra, who is sitting on a bench under a shade, and asks a question with a genuinely curious face that it made Embra speechless.
"Hey there. Are you Embra-kun? What is your type of girl?" (Yuki)
He almost chocks on his own saliva before regaining his focus quickly ans answered back using japanese, which surprised Yuki.
"Well, If I have to say, it would be a type of girl who I can get along with well. Does did answer your question?" (Embra)
"Hoh? You can speak Japanese? That is impressive. And, yes, you answered my question perfectly. Haha." (Yuki)
'A girl who can get along well, huh? So, he is a humble and peaceful type with good personality, huh? How about his ambitions though?' (Yuki)
After casually sitting beside Embra, she starts to talk with joy evident in her voice.
"It was just a week ago that I know about your existence and you have instantly grabs my interest right there and then. Becoming a sorcerer without any guidance and not being labeled as a curse user even though you do not belong to any jujutsu organization. So, Embra-kun. I want to know. What drives you to become a sorcerer?" (Yuki)
Unlike her initial joyous mode, she is serious when she asked that question to Embra because she has never liked Jujutsu High, and of course, she never has an ounce of respect for the old men who lead the organization and if not for the fact that she will be labeled as a curse user if she does not belong to any jujutsu organization, she would have done it long ago and immerse herself in her research.
Now, beside her is a boy who was never labeled as a curse user even though he is exorcising curses for five years already and from what she can sense currently from him, she knows for a fact that Embra is strong, very strong. So, she is curious what drives him so far to even go as far as to make a self-binding vow, that is indirectly saving him from being branded as a curse user.
On the other hand, Embra looks straight at Yuki who is expecting his answer eagerly and answers truthfully without any hesitation or doubt.
"Responsibility." (Embra)
Taken back, Yuki asked, not understanding. An independent sorcerer, putting his life on the line every time he fought a curse, just because of responsibility? Now, that is something she cannot understand instantly even with her intelligence.
"Responsibility? of what?" (Yuki)
"*smile* Responsibility of a strong. Responsibility of someone who is born in this world with a power to fight the beings that not everyone can't. Responsibility of someone who is blessed with a strength that can be used to protect the weak and innocence. That same responsibility is what drives me, Yuki-san. " (Embra)
For once in her life, Yuki Tsukumo, is speechless for a moment, hearing what the teen in front of her said. She can almost feel the determination that accompanied every words he said and that instant a small aspect of respect for Embra, begins to form in her heart.
'Responsibility, huh? I myself am being a sorcerer because of my own ambitions and curiosity. Many sorcerer are like me too, with their own selfish ambitions, and goals though sometimes, they could have been better though. Like Getou-kun. Some have chosen the path of sorcerer because of revenge too but, out of all the answer I have heard, he is doing this because of responsibility??? HAHAHA. I see it now. He is a complete opposite of Satoru-kun.' (Yuki's thought)
"How about you? Why are you still a sorcerer? Not to be rude but, I can see that you are not a fighter type. You do not seems like the type to manage an organization or something too. You are more like a free-spirited person that follows her own heart and seeks adventures." (Embra)
It is to be expected that Embra can seen through Yuki. After all, he was once an manager of a black company. He has seen fair share of different types of people throughout his work. So, it was not hard for him to see through a person or at least guess the type of person he is meeting face-to-face.
And, he has already seen through Yuki since the moment he saw her. He has already concluded that she is a free-spirit type, meaning she is not one to lead people or obey rules. And, he might be wrong but, from his measly amount of fighting experience, he can see that Yuki is not a fighter; at least not a CQC fighter.
And, he was not wrong because as much as she travels around the world, she does not fight often; always prefer to spend her times in her own research and not liking to deal with other people beside her curiosity, as she is far intelligent than most people to serve as a conversation partner. So, Embra's question make her slightly taken back while skipping a heartbeat for reasons unknown to her.
"... Why am I still a sorcerer, huh? That is a good question. You see, my true objective is unlike the jujutsu community; I want to treat the cause, rather than the symptoms. That is why I focus on researching to achieve my goals, rather than hunting the curse spirits. Beside, being a special-grade sorcerer pays well, you know. I have some money but, more money never hurts. Hehe" (Yuki)
This time, it was Embra who was taken aback.
He no longer care whether this is in anime or not, he no longer care this is a world of fiction or not because he has already come to terms with all of those problems when he was breastfed by his mother for the first time.
What he cares now is how to use his strength for the better future of the world he is living in currently, making him question himself; 'Is there a permanent solution to make sure, curses do not fall upon humans or stopping the curse spirit from being born?'.
He has thought about it for years but, he didn't find the answer that will satisfy him. That was until, he experienced the 'death'. He found himself an answer to his life-time question just next day after his fight, with the help of Konan who he knows regrets as his mentor.
"Fu. FUHAHAHAHA." (Embra)
Now, seeing someone who thinks alike as him, he laughs wholeheartedly from pure joy before grabbing Yuki's hand without thinking, making her heart almost stop beating.
Both have unknowingly already lower their guards around each other while they are talking and only now that Yuki notices it, but, she did not have time to thinks further because she is too absorbed in the sensation of Embra's hands that is tightly grabbing her hands while talking with enthusiasm, unlike his calm demeanor.
"To think there is someone who think like me!!! Wonderful. Please tell me. Which conclusion did you arrived to? I myself have arrived at an conclusion that I think will 'treat the cause', as you worded it, permanently..." (Embra)
Now, this is something that 100% got her attention, making her ignore the fact that Embra is still holding her right hand tightly.
"What!!! You also?! From my years of researching, I have found two ways. One way is to make all of humanity lose their curse energy. And, second way is to make all of humanity able to control their curse energy. How about you? Which conclusion did you arrived to??" (Yuki)
At her eager question, Embra cheekily smiles before raising up one finger from where he is grabbing Yuki's hand.
"Just one. To create a small world of just curses, and curse spirits. And, I may have a way to achieve that, though the possibility of success maybe near zero currently." (Embra)
Yuki's eyes almost bulge out of her eye sockets hearing Embra's confident answer and they just simply stare each other; one with complete awe and the other still happy from finding out alike-minded person.
They still did not realize how close they are or how they looks like a couple where the husband found an algorithm to consecutively win lottery and confidently boasting it to his wife who is completely awed.
