Chapter 2: Plans

Although we were in despair, my thoughts never stopped

"Get to the lakehouse.." I muttered, repeating my father's words.

Our lakehouse was all the way in East Texas. Our family would go to Possum kingdom during the summer and on the occasional fishing trip every year. The area where our lakehouse is located was low in population, and we would have a good supply of food with the lake and the forests surrounding the lakehouse.

The property was well hidden from the main roads and we could house a few people and have a small camp and could survive this.

The more I thought about it, it became the perfect spot, we had fishing gear and a generator there. We would be set if we could get there. My mind went into overdrive. I thought about the rest of my family I hoped they would be ok.

"Zen try to get a hold of anyone and tell them to meet us here. I got a plan" I told racing to my room.

I got dressed and began to grab my old school backpack, a bag for Bella, Zen, and Kiersten had one she already brought. Going back to the living room I saw them turn off the lights of the outside and inside to peek outside.

"So far we've seen nothing, we should be ok," Kiersten said just then I heard Zen on the phone.

"Ok, we'll meet here we have a plan to go to our lakehouse we should be ok. Pack non-perishable foods, clothes, and grab any guns, bows, arrows, and anything else useful in your garage. Ok, be safe" He told as he hung up his phone, as we began to pack

"We'll need extra clothes, food, water, weapons, any medical supplies, we have here," I told as I raced to the garage and grabbed an old ax, hedge clippers, a small fishing pole, my old tackle box, and a few of our old bats from when Zen and I played baseball and softball.

When I came back inside I saw a pile of stuff on the living room floor.

"Is that everything?" Kiersten asked. Going over the list in my head we needed 2 more things well more like 2 more assets.

"We need to grab the dogs too, hopefully, we can train Harley well enough she can help us hunt and Link is already good at staying by us outside they should come too" I suggested as they nodded and we quietly waited for morning.

The time seemed too slow but we managed to decide the best route, triple check our packing, and had a list of everyone meeting us at the lake house. If we got enough people we could fill the whole camp our lake house was on.

There were at least a dozen other houses we could seal off the entrance to seem invisible to any unfriendly survivors...

"Ok, so we have the 3 of us including 2 dogs." I started. Zen nodded

"We have the list of everyone coming, ready?" Zen asked as I took a deep breathe and remembered one thing.

"Y'all load up I have to grab only a few things left," I say running back to the house.

It seemed childish but I grabbed a trash bag and stuffed it with all my stuffies. I knew after this I wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully again knowing my family was constantly in danger.

Just as I got back out to the living room My eyes trailed to the corner table full of family pictures. I grabbed the photo of my mom and brian off the corner table and held it to my chest.

It hurt my heart to leave this place for good but we had no other choice. Running back outside I loaded myself in the car and we made our way to the Lakehouse.
