The meaning of the mark

The werewolf king's aura became more dangerous. He was growing angrier by the minute, everything was making Marcus look guilty.

From what had happened, it seemed like Marcus had intentionally lured the king to Mark him by wearing Reina's perfume.

"It's just a perfume. Anyone can wear a similar perfume," Marcus defended himself.

Reina smirked at his statement. Everyone in the palace knew never to wear anything that is similar to hers. Not to mention the perfume he was talking about is exclusively made only for the queen.

It was a gift from the king and it was one of a kind. The person who makes the perfume only makes that type for the Queen and her alone.

Everything from her dresses to her jewelry and shoes were one of a kind. It was not easy to steal from her or take what belongs to her and claim it as your own.

Even the king wasn't buying his excuse. "But the perfume I use is only made for me," Reina let out. "It's hard to believe how cunning you turned out to be," she added.

Marcus shook his head, he really wanted to defend himself. He had no idea where the perfume where the perfume cane from. He didn't even catch the name or face of the servant who got him ready.

He had nothing to present that could prove his innocence. Just then the doors opened and three women entered the room.

"Good morning your highness," the women greeted in unison. The queen ignored their greeting as though they had spoken to her.

"Good morning," the king replied.

"We didn't mean to interrupt you by breakfast is ready," one of the women stepped forward and informed on him. "Will you join us for breakfast?" she asked.

The King threw a gaze at his queen. Reina looked away from him and angrily made her way out of the room.

The King nodded his head to the ladies and let them take him from the room. He glared at Marcus all the way until he was out of the room.

Marcus let out the breath he was holding when the two of them had left. He couldn't help but thank his stars for sending the women that saved him. He was almost being chewed alive by the two werewolves.

The Queen and king were very angry with him, the argument wasn't over but simply postponed to a later time. Until then he decided to find the servant who had dressed him and see why he had sprayed him with the queen's perfume.

He got ready for the day by himself. He refused all the help offered to him, he had been bitten once and he wasn't going to give them a chance to bite him again.

He rushed to get ready as he was summoned by the king to join them for breakfast.

"I will try to get the King to see that I am innocent," he spoke out loud by looking at himself in the mirror.

Satisfied with how he looked, he moved out of the room with the man servants following behind him. One gave him directions to where the garden was.

He followed the directions given but also remained alert in case they tried to trap him again.

"Did you hear?" he halted in his steps when he heard a female voice say. He thought that it was him being spoken to.

"Hear what?" another female voice sounded. He shook his head for thinking that the female was addressing him. He took a step forward to continue on his path.

"The king has marked his new bride," his legs stopped and were frozen to the ground hearing the lady's statement.

He heard gasps coming from the room in which the woman was in. It was just a kiss to the neck. He didn't see why so many people were making such a big deal out of it.

The King and him were not in love in any case so the kiss probably meant nothing but no, the world seemed to think otherwise.

"You are not serious?" another female voice sounded. "Does that mean that we have lost. The King will never be able to touch anyone else other than him now," the woman said causing his heart to stop beating for a minute.

"You are right. Now that the king has marked him, he can't bear another's touch except his," the first voice spoke. "Not even Reina's touch," the female added.

Marcus's breath caught. He had no idea that the kiss on his neck had such great impact on everyone. No wonder the queen was furious when she saw it, he was confused.

It was not normal for a kiss to have such an effect but he was married to a beast so normal was off the table.

"In just his first night in Zayion. He was able to do what even we couldn't do. He has managed to snatch the king from everyone including the Queen."

Marcus felt paralyzed to the floor, he could apologise for the kiss but how can he start to apologise for all that. It didn't matter what he did, it wasn't going to change the fact that he had taken the king from his queen.

He wanted a place in the king's heart. So that he can ensure that his kingdom is safe but instead, he took him away from everyone else.

Who could have known that the mistake in the servant putting the queen's perfume on him would cause such a big drama.

He certainly had no clue. With difficulty he took steps forward to join the king for breakfast. No matter how long it took, he promised himself that he would get the king to forgive him. It was an honest mistake that was not his doing at all.

He arrived at the garden, the women that had invited the king for breakfast were no where to be seen. They was food everywhere on the ground with shattered plates that the servants were cleaning up.

"M..my king," he called out afraid. His gaze was lowered, after the truth that he had learned. He didn't seem worthy of the title that was given to him. He didn't feel that it was right to face him today.

The King looked up from his food towards him. "The queen is leaving and the other women too," the king spoke.

His words and pain in his voice forced Marcus to look up. The King played with his food with his claws, he left marks on the plate.

Marcus swallowed hard. The feeling that was creeping inside of him was guilt. Even though it was his doing, he still felt bad for the king, he was losing people that he called family all because of him.

"If there I..is anything that I can do," he spoke wanting to take away his pain somehow.

"There is," the king spoke. " You will have to shed the very tears I saw in Reina's eyes today. And you will do it every single day of your life until your last breath," the king added coldly.

His voice sent a shiver down Marcus's spine. The threat was real and from the look on his face, the king was going to make certain it came to pass.

The King got up from his seat and walked towards him. Fear had caused the prince to freeze on the spot. He couldn't move away from the approaching man.

He closed his eyes when the king reached him expecting a slap. But the king gave him a hug, the king held him tightly in his arms for a while before stepping back.

Marcus felt his throat tighten. It was painful to witness the king's state. The King took out a match box, from it he took one match stick while looking deep into Marcus's eyes.

He lit the match stick and threw it to the floor. Marcus had no idea why he did that until he had fireworks exploding at his feet.

When he looked down, he found a string of fireworks tied around his waste with the end lit up.

"Arghh," he screamed as his hand moved to untie the string from his waste. Fear of getting burnt crept into him as his sweaty hands moved around to free him.

The King stood aside watching the struggle with no emotion in his eyes. 'You tricked me into marking you. Now I will ensure that everyday of your life is filled with fear and pain,' he thought bitterly.

His mind replaced the face of his ex-queen when she broke down from it all. She was acting strong and angry but the mark really wounded her heart, she wasn't able to handle it well and decided that she would rather leave than stay and watch her dream being taken from her.

He looked at the prince, he wanted to break him just as the prince had broken his queen.

"I brought you here because I thought that your kindness could bring more light into my palace but not even a day has passed and you have covered the place in darkness," he spoke hurt.

Marcus turned out not to be the man that he had met and he hated the way that Marcus proved him wrong.

"Welcome to hell dear prince," he said to him.
