Chapter 52: Run Perseus run

"Kid, head to the headmaster's office after you're done with your lunch" Professor Steel instructed
"Why?"
"It's time for you to compete for the captain's position, don't worry, your absence for the afternoon classes will be excused" he replied "Though I doubt it'll take that long"
"Can I bring my bonds?"
"I don't know the details, ask them"
"Alright old man"
"I'm not that old" he grumbled
-Well sounds easy enough-
-You'll be competing with people whose ability matches your own, I think you shouldn't underestimate it too much- Dabria advised

I then headed in and the other 3 followed by shortly
"Seems like you're all here, now let's get it started, Professor Williams if you please" the headmaster said
Then several warp gates starts to descend down onto all of us and we reappeared on top of a small mountain, we can see the academy from a distance
"When will I learn that?" I asked Professor Williams
"In due time, if it's you, it won't be too hard" He answered with a smile
"Now your task is to follow this path to the bottom" the headmaster pointed to the path in front of us "Your goal is to just reach the finish line, your bonds and servants will wait for you there, and of course, this trail has traps all over it, please don't stray away from it, or you will be disqualified"
"Is sabotage allowed?" Liam asked
"Of course, this is modeled after the obstacle course for the competition, that means you can use magic and you can sabotage your opponent, but don't inflict serious injuries like cutting people's limbs off, that would disqualify you, but you are free to use the terrain to your advantage" the headmaster answered
"Can I use warp?" I asked
"You can't use it on yourself" the headmaster replied amused
"Get into your positions" Professor Williams announced
-He said to just reach the finish line, it means that there's a catch, this isn't a race, we need to accomplish something before getting to the bottom-
-That sounds plausible- Dabria replied
- Well it's been a while since it's just the 2 of us- I said as I stretched
-It has, sabotage is allowed, what's your plan?- she asked
-You'll see, I need a head start, since the objective is probably limited in numbers, after all we're fighting for an important position-
"Good luck guys, see you at the finish line"
"Good luck to you too" Caleb replied
"I don't think you should be wishing your competitors luck" Elliot replied
"Well it's cuz you'll need it"
"You really are arrogant for a first year" Liam sighs
Professor Williams then got to the front

I am using one hand for ice magic to shoot an ice trail to slide down and the other to shoot wind magic to boost my speed, there explosive runes and arrays set on the path, but I managed to block them or avoid them, it didn't take long to hear the others
-It shouldn't take them long to overtake me, but our objective isn't to win the race-
-Well we should try to find it then- Dabria replied -I'll help-
It didn't take long to hear a voice screaming for our help in the woods with my enhanced hearing
- You hear that?-
-It's very faint for me, but it sounds like a student, slightly older than you- Dabria commented
-We found our objective- I then shut off the ice trail and use earth magic to erect a tall wall on the path before I headed off into the forest
-I thought you weren't supposed to stray away from the path- Dabria commented
-Well, we're helping a person in need regardless of what we were told, we're bound to gain bonus points-
I then ran faster with wind magic to boost me, we then went to a clearing where we say a boy around my height in our school uniform, black eyes and black hair.
"Can you please help me? I injured my ankles" he said
"Of course, show me where you're hurt" I said bending down to inspect his bleeding ankles
"Why are you out here?" I asked "We're not supposed to be out during a school day"
"Well I wanted to sneak out, and I managed to, but I got into a fight wit magic beast, I barely escaped with my life" he replied "what about you?"
"I got permission don't worry, but we'll worry about you first"
-I can sense a very faint presence of magic on his ankles, and it isn't that of a magic beast- Dabria observed
-That means this is self inflicted, he's undoubtedly our objective-
I then healed his wounds with light magic and his wounds stitched up
"You should be fine, but you shouldn't walk for a while, get on me, I'll carry you back"
"Are you sure?" he asked
"Yeah, c'mon quick"
He then get on my back and I rushed back to the path
-Faint presence of magic, they already went far ahead, you need to catch up- Dabria said
"Hey, hold on very very tight, I'm about to go very quick, I have a race to win" I advised
-I thought you said this isn't a race- Dabria replied
-I hate losing- I smiled
"What do you mea- AHHHHHH" he asked but then screamed as I used fire magic to explode to boost me quickly forward, mix in with wind and lightning magic, I'm currently running at a very fast pace, I also occasionally used fire magic to explode beneath my feet to boost me forward, the traps along the path was mostly disabled due to the other 3 setting them off as they ran
The guy held on for his dear life. It didn't take long to see the others, Elliot was running using lightning magic to boost himself, Liam was using wind magic and Caleb was using light support magic to boost himself. They weren't running to fast, because they want to avoid the traps laid out for us
I then used an even bigger explosion to rocket myself forward and it wasn't long before I reached them. Elliot saw me and tried to shoot a ball of lightning towards me but I warped his spell and it hit Liam right in the face, he then fell
"Hey!" Elliot shouted "I thought warping isn't allowed"
"It is, just that I can't use it on myself"
-I love exploiting loopholes-
-Focus, he's preparing another spell- Dabria scolded
"How many enemies do you have?!" the guy on my back asked
"For now, just these 3"
"I don't know why you're carrying that guy, but take this" Elliot then shout out several lightning bolt backed with streams of wind magic to try and push me back, I stopped in my tracks and summoned a wall of earth to barely block his attack, my wall broke after the attack, but I continue to ran forward
Caleb then use his larger body to bump into Elliot who stumbled and almost fell
"Sorry, Elliot, but I'm not going to disappoint my goddess, I will show her a worthy performance" Caleb said as his body started to shine brightly
"Close your eyes" I warned the guy on my back
I then closed my own, and a sense a ball of mana headed towards me, I then used metal magic to summon a shield and used it to block the attack, it blew us backwards a bit.
"I'll apologize later" Caleb shouted "I have to dedicate this win to my goddess"
I then ran after him, Liam who fell earlier caught up with us
"Sorry for this" he said as he shot a blast of wind to my side, I barely held my ground, but I continue to run forward after them.
It wasn't long till we find a field filled with explosives mana stones, runes and arrays.
"I can't fly" Caleb muttered but then he ran into the field of explosives
Liam was flying but he was slower than Caleb who was running on the ground due to there being some mid air arrays to slow him down as well
-Things that I've read comes in useful today-
-I think I know what you're planning- Dabria replied
"Hold on especially tight, if you don't want to die" i warned as I backed up
"I hate this job" the guy uttered under his breath which I heard with my enhanced hearing
I then used wind magic to boost me and jump at the edge of the explosive field, I summon a thick and big sheet of metal mid air, I held onto the handle as I fell, the guy held on my neck even tighter, I blasted lightning magic to one of the explosives on the ground and several others
-They'll explode by the time I reach the ground-
I then saw Elliot who also decided to run on the field, I then fell down and the explosion set off in time and blew me up to the air, which I use wind magic to boost me forward to make me even faster
"AHHHHHHHH" the guy on my back screamed in a high pitch scream
The other 2 on the ground caught up in the chain reaction of the explosion, some harmless shrapnel and rocks also flew and hit Liam who was mid air
-I think the shoes Eliza and John got for me is destroyed, I'll call her tonight to prepare me a new one-
-Focus on your landing, you don't also wan to hurt the guy on your back- Dabria replied
I used wind magic to soften my landing, then I ran forward as soon as I touched the ground, with wind and lightning magic boosting me forward, it didn't take me long to see the finish line in the distance, I also saw my bonds waiting for me there
-We can see you, you're close- Diana said
-Run like your life depends on it- Damon added
-Yeah, Run Perseus run- Ace cheered
I finally crossed the finish line to my bonds surrounding me.
"You can get off me now" I told the guy on my back
"Finally, I never thought that I would fear for my life today" the guy then got off and took several deep breaths
-The position is as good as yours- Siege said
-I'm so tired right now, whew-
"Congratulations" The headmaster walked up to me "You passed the test"
