Reaper's reminder

It is already afternoon when I reached the center because I had to calm myself through a longer ride. I meet Vein and Rex's stares on the way to my room. And I am the first one to tear my eyes away as I enter my room quietly.

My relationship with them has been that way for a while. I often hear Vien's remarks on how thick-faced I am to act that way when they should be the one to do that to me, and she will always say that out loud when I am around or passing by. Rex will just shake his head on that.

I felt like he is now casual to me. He's back on winking at me at times. He would stifle a laugh or smile whenever Vien's impetuous comments make me react a little. And of course, the oblivious Vien will only hit him because he wouldn't speak a damn thing on why he is laughing or smiling.

I need to stick to my decision though and let the distance be in between us still.

After hours of being in my room, I decided to go out to have a talk with Rene. I wanted to know the details of those who are after the mafia. Because what if they are the same persons who lead the attack years ago? This could be my chance to be closer to them. This could be my chance to use the mafia to get back to them. I am sure this time, Luther will not go against it. It is the people who are challenging his dear mafia anyways. This will not be just my fight if that happens.

I twisted the knob and saw Rene with his casual jeans and shirt in his office, comfortably drinking coffee and reading a newspaper. His eyes flew to me then back to the newspaper he is reading again as if he didn't see me. I sat on the free chair infront of his desk.

"Are they the same people?" I asked, ruining his peace.

He removed his reading glass and placed the newspaper on the desk before looking at me again. "This interrogation can't wait tomorrow?"

I only gave him a serious glance as an answer. He sighed and massage his temple.

Outside the mafia, I am stressing German. Inside the mafia, I am stressing Rene. How stressful that is?

His eyes roamed around his office, probably seeing flashbacks on how this office is made, before he glanced to me again, who is now demanding inside his office. He shook his head again. "Sir Luther built this mafia after that night. And everything is happening in our favor. But 3 years later, some unknown people and organizations come after it. We killed a lot, and sanction others,"

"But they are consistent of denying who they are serving, so in the end, their lives are put into the line just because of their dumb loyalty. "

"The mafia has touched many illegal organizations. So, we are still not sure if they are the same people."

I shut my lips at that, but his continuation made me pry.

"Though I had a gut feeling that these enemies right now are related to it," he added, which made my heart thump faster.

"What made you say so?" I asked immediately, keen on knowing his basis. Something dark inside me is churning and I felt dark excitement eating me up. Is this it?

After years of waiting will I be able to punish that organization? Will I be able to come face to face with that woman?

Is my refusal to join the mafia the reason why this took long? And I should have accepted Luther's invitation before?

I wanted to know… I wanted to know, now.

"Just a wild guess," he simply replied which made me rise to my seat.

No, that can't be enough. I have to have stronger grounds.

"A wild guess is not enough basis,"

I proceeded to walk to the door but he stated something before I can completely walk out of it.

"That doesn't change the fact that you needed to kill those who are after mafia. You are the reaper now. You kill anyone who gets in the way. "

"Even if it excludes your interest and will. "

"Even if it cost your life."

"A reaper cannot turn her back to the mafia and the one who rules it or you'll go face to face to an undesirable end. This is not a useless title. On your shoulders are the responsibilities you cannot run away from. I feel the need to remind you that."
