Her emerald eyes stared into mine as she put her ghostly hand on my cheek rubbing the tears from my eyes.
She's my mum?
How?
I killed her?
What's going on?
"I'm so happy to see you after all this time."
I can't.
No
No
I need to get out of here
I pushed her away, the spirit swirling and disappearing like a cloud of smoke.
I then walked over and started the elevator.
I breathed heavily and cleared my mind.
I need to figure out what I want to do now.
I need to decide on whether I want to become an assassin or not.
Everything else isn't important
I walked home, the air had turned harsh with a chill sweeping over the town. With all that was happening I didn't notice the seasons change. I put my hands in my pockets and started to walk home sheltering my exposed skin from the crisp air. I crossed the street the dark clouds following me and spreading over the sky like a spider web the grey clouds looming over the city. I pulled my hood over my head awaiting the impending downpour.
Just as expected the rain started to clatter onto the concrete washing down the sides of the streets and running through the cold city. I passed into my street and walked towards my building running inside. I walked in again and passed the plastic bag full of beer and snacks and picked a soda from the supply box, the bag rustled as I pushed my hand inside.
I then walked over to the center of the room and took off my hoodie, hanging it up by the hood and letting the water roll off.
"What do you want?"
Arachnid was standing in the middle of the room
"I have a question I've been meaning to ask you for a while but until now Jackie hasn't let me."
I walked over to my bed and sat down on the sheets. They crumpled as I dented the mattress.
"I'm kinda thinking things through... so what is it?"
"Who are you?"
"Sam"
"I mean what are you? Why are you?"
"I'm not sure. I used to think I was a hero but I think this morning shows that I'm clearly not and Jack telling me I'm destined to become a killer or something speaks to that too, but I wouldn't say I'm a murderer. I don't know if I enjoy it or if that's what I want."
"That's something you need to figure out for yourself but I'm here sam. We all are. I know Jack is standoffish but he really wants you to join us. We all know your pain whether we were bred to kill or we stumbled into it. We have all faced the questions you have so when and if you need us we are here."
And with that she left.
I pushed myself onto the wall pushing my body against the wall and I took out my phone. There is nothing.
Nothing for me
But with them?
Will that be me?
Will that make me happy?
Will knowing what I am help?
I pushed my phone to the side and lowered my head onto my arm letting my head sink into my bicep. I curled my legs inward, dragging the sheets with me. And to the sounding beat of the rain smacking into my window I fell asleep.
I stood in front of a corpse blood dripping before me, waterfalls of blood running across the blackness in front of me. The red consumed my eyes and thoughts focusing on the beautiful stain. I looked behind me into the void when I saw them.
The people I treasured.
The ones I have and always will love.
My precious guild members.
I stared at them and watched as they stared back in disgust, their faces filled with hatred. And then they turned their backs. Leaving me alone in the darkness. With only blood and solitude.
I reached out my hand and tried to stop them but instead a dagger stabbed out thrusting into my brother's chest. I saw the look of shock across his weak face.
I sat up with my hand reaching for the window. The moonlight was flooding in through that slite, my one connection to the outside world. I stared up into the moon.
"It's so big"
The moment was quiet, perfect and haunting.
I picked up my phone and with one tap, it came alive lights shooting out from the small rectangle. I stared down at the latest message.
'He's awake.'
I dropped the phone and picked up my hoodie, still damp from the day before. I ran out of the door charging into the opening and running out into the rain, beads of clear water ran down my face. Each of my steps caused more of it to rise. The water drops like crystals reflecting the dim light beautifully. Mimicking the moon in each shard of the sky. I ran for the hospital fighting up the rivers of water flowing down the streets and flooding past my feet. Each drop making my clothes heavier soaking into the light shirt made it darker and clearer. The rain consumes the dull and turns everything into water. The roofs shone with droplets as I ran past, my breathing burning my lungs as I kicked off the ground.
I ran into the hospital, my body dripping with sweat and water. I lurched for the elevator ignoring the shounts. After punching the button I sank into the corner and let the doors close. The lift moved up and up the ground rattling as it did. The steel box reflects the orange light from the ceiling. Finally the elevator stopped and I ran out of the prison rushing to my brother's room.
I pushed past the people, my feet squeaking on the floor. Finally I turned the last corner. I bolted round the white wall and slid on the floor scraping and grabbling to move forward.
I reached the glass and smacked my hands into it, stopping me from moving as I pressed my face against the cool glass.
I looked at his weakened figure sitting alone in the room and staring at the moon. Then his head turned and he looked at me.
He was smiling.
