Chapter 16

He's safe…..

Finally

I pushed my hand against the cold glass, my fingers spreading as I pressed against it.

My brother's figure was almost spectral against the pale moonlight.we stared into each other's eyes the glass dividing his dark room from me. I ran round to the door pushing past and into his room.

He was sitting on the bed with the sheets wrapped around his legs. He had a blue set of scrubs on that rose to his pale skin. His face was smooth and unbroken, there was no blood or scars on his face, it was pure and protected. His eyes were a pale hopeful green but they were less bright than mine. His blach hair was ruffled and strands of it stood on end.

"Sam? What happened?"

"Ryan, you're awak thank god!" I ran forward and grabbed him, my arms wrapping around his body.

Ryan wasn't my biological brother. But he was my little brother nonetheless. We grew up in the orphanage together and were inseparable and when I became an adult and a guild master we legally became family.

I'm so happy, he's alive.

"The nurses said that you gave them £100,000,000 how the hell did you get that kind of money? What's going on Sam? What happened when I was asleep?"

"I went back to guild work as a merc, made a bunch of money, sold some stuff and paid for your treatment, what else."

His pale eyes stared into my soul picking apart my every movement.

"Ok."

He turned his back to me and lay down on the bed.

"Sam, can you draw the curtains and come back in the morning? I feel tired."

"Yeah ok rest up."

I* walked to the door and looked back at his still body, sadness creeping across my heart. I shut the door and walked away.

Ryan was still staring at the window, he wasn't tired but he did need to lie and turn away. He couldn't look at me anymore. Tears rolled down his cheek.

"Liar..."

The next morning I returned to the hospital but Ryan wasn't there, I asked the nurses but he had left earlier. I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach.

I walked home and stepped into the dark apartment.

"How was dear Ryan?"

"I need to move."

Jack was standing in my kitchen helping himself to an apple.

"So you're going to keep killing with us?"

"Yeah"

"I guess she really swayed you huh?"

"I didn't talk to her."

"Well that's unexpected. Anyway we have some people to introduce you to and some work to do since now you will actually become a scythe"

"Fine."

I grabbed my coat and mask fitting the fabric over my face and sliding the hood over my head. Then I stepped into Jack's cloak, the cloth wrapping over my head and then opening to reveal the familiar halls of K.I.L. In front of me were six people, I knew two of them, Arachnid and Mimic.

There was a short man who had broad shoulders and a bald head, his eyes were beedy and his forehead was creased. Next to him was a tall man with glasses and a mask across his face. His eyes were blank and expressionless. After that was a man with a big smile, stitches were covering his body and razors were tucked all over his clothes shining like embroidery. His eyes were yellow and sparkled even in the dark cave. And the last was a smaller guy with dark hair wrapped into a pony tail and a sword slung over his shoulder. His face was turned and he was staring into the distance.

"Sam these people are Mimic, Arachnid, Ogre, Chemist, Mantis and Mist.the most prominent scythes of Grim reaper."

"Heeeeya how many people have you killed? It's pretty great huh?"

"I'm forty I think."

"Alright one at a time guys I know it's not often that we get a new one but calm down."

I walked off to the side and sat down on the floor. After that I stared down at the floor and saw a pair of black boots walking towards me, the shadow stretching along the floor.

I looked up. The air stretched and time seemed to stop. The only sound in my head was my heartbeat as it pounded through my head smacking into my skull like a drum. I stared up into his eyes. They were haunting and horrifying for me to see.

The pale green shattered my thoughts.

My blood started to boil. My thoughts raced through my head like birds flying over a city swarming and twisting everything lost in a frantic haze.

"Hey I'm Mist, don't get ki..."

My eyes widened at the sight of his. His face was the same. His eyes are more hollow than usual. Like a caged animal. Trapped. Begging for freedom. So then why is it? Why is it that I know those eyes? And I can see his face above the black mask. That I can see his eyes.

It's him! Its my brother!

I had to dig my hands into my chest to stop myself from screaming out his name. I then stood up and walked away before he could finish his sentence.

What happened to my brother?

How did he become an assassin?

Did Jack know? What am I saying? Of course he knew.

I walked forward and grabbed Jacks arm gripping the bicep I dragged him along the floor until I reached a secluded corner.

"Well you figured it out? It was only a matter of time. I guess you're angry at me now?"

"Stop giving him jobs, or I will kill you. And I know I could never become a better assassin than you but I will sure as hell destroy the entire world and myself before I let you make my brother a killer."

"Make? Oh you've got this all wrong, he approached us and the person with the second highest kill count in this guild isn't arachnid or mimic not even mantis. No, it's him. You think we're corrupting him? Hahaha don't make me laugh."

He teleported out of my grip.

"Confront him on your own time kid, now... I have a job for you."
