TIME OF TRUTH
Lexie.
As I entered the pub the suffocating air, and colored lights hit me, along with drunken and sweaty bodies. He used to come here with the boys to drink uncontrollably. It was the routine of every Friday.
I go through the wardrobe and hand the guard my bag, in exchange he gives me a key, he smiled at her while I put the object in my bra so as not to lose it. I look around to find a familiar face. The place is full of people who can not see anything. So I go to the only place where I know I can find someone.
The bar is full of people with drinks and couples of boys kissing. He smiled at how crazy it is to kiss strangers. In the distance, I see Aleix, with her genuine blonde hair color, and his coconut earring. He's with his back to me serving some drinks. I sit on the closest stool I can find.
—Three shots of Tequila and my favorite matchmaker, please —I say raising my voice so that certain words reach Aleix. When he hears my voice, he stays still, and he leaves the glass half of whatever he has in his hands. He turns around and stares at me in amazement, his mouth forming an amused O. He smiled at her.— Are you going to stay there or are you going to give me a hug?
He puts the bottle aside, jumps the bar and in a half-second I have him hugging me.
—Fuck Lexie —he says in exasperation— you're ... you're here b-but how?
I pull away enough for my eyes to scan his face.
He is different, his features are much more defined and it is obvious that he has already come out of the closet. I know it from the gorgeous eye makeup. Aleix is my lifelong best friend, just like Sam but since Aleix and I have been together since kindergarten, I've known him for a lot longer and I can figure it out.
I was the only girl who could trust me with that secret, but the circumstances in which he told me about it are not normal at all. Aleix was the first boy I had sex with and the only one. I did it for him.
He needed to know if he was really attracted to men and he asked me for that favor. I didn't refuse enough because he needed the favor too. Being the sister of the most handsome boy at the school, no uncle came near me.
In the end, Aleix told me that it had been horrible and that he had confirmed his doubts. He was gay, we laughed so hard that day that we made a promise to never reveal this moment, and thus remain as an unbreakable pact between the two. Like in Harry Potter.
—I woke up two weeks ago.
He seems surprised.
—What?
—What you heard.
—You've been awake for two weeks and I just came to find out.
With an enraged air, he jumps over the bar again and starts pouring the three shots of tequila I asked for.
—Come on Aleix, are you really going to get mad now? —I flick my lashes and clasp my hands in an attempt to be forgiven. He looks at me seriously, he looks away from him to another place.
—I asked Liam not to tell you anything. —I wanted it to be a surprise for you and Sam.
As if a swear word had come out of my mouth, he turns around and faces me.
—Liam ... Liam didn't say anything to you, did he?
What is he talking about?
—What did Liam have to tell me?"
He opens his mouth and then shakes his head.
—And good? —I ask.
This silence begins to worry me and I have the feeling that something is not right.
—Any.
That? What is that supposed to mean?
I give him a murderous look and he raises his hands in defeat.
—You better see for yourself. —She with a movement of the head points behind me and turned.
Sam comes here with a carefree air. He looks so handsome, he is wearing black pants and a T-shirt as always, adjusting his blonde hair with his hand so that it remains intact, he has always had that mania. He doesn't realize the list of aunts dying to be with him, including me.
When he reaches the bar I turn in the opposite direction, I fix my hair, until now he has not noticed my presence. He orders two shots of rum and coke. His voice echoes through my ears and my heart races. Even his voice is sexy. All of him is sexy.
Gathering up enough courage to face it, I turn my stool.
—Hello Sam.
His gaze meets mine and we stay like that for a nanosecond until he finally wraps his arms around my waist and spins me around.
—My God Lexie.—He, answers when he has already left me on the ground.
I take his face in my hands and caress him. He is still surprised he does not stop looking at my face.
—I'm here Sam. —My happiness at this moment does not compare with the happiness I had when I saw Aleix. Sam is the reason for my smiles and my racing heart that he right now he wants to get out of my chest.
We smile at each other until hands wrap around his neck and pull him to the side. They kiss it. My smile vanishes when I see that blonde with whom my dear Sam is kissing.
I feel my heart racing even more but this time from pure pain, my chest tightens at the scene and I can feel my eyes fill with tears leaving my blurred vision in their wake, my mind disconnects, the people around me disappear and now it's them and me.
His kiss is passionate and wild, loaded with so much desire.
This must be a joke. This can not be happening.
The kiss lasts a few minutes until they part and their breathing is accelerated.
Sam as if he realizes I'm still here, takes two steps back and makes contact with my eyes. The look that he gives me is so cold that I can't get the words to ask him. Why Sam? Because she?
The blonde approaches with a determined step.
I don't ignore her surprised expression, but it is replaced by her stupid smirk.
—Wow, I thought tonight would be boring. —How interesting Lexie, that you are here— she takes two steps towards me which I go back to keep my distance. I don't want the evil to stick to me.
—Are you out of your detox yet?
She bathes her eyelashes in an attempt to appear innocent. We both know that she's innocent, she doesn't even have her last name.
—I wasn't in stupid rehab, and you know that —Aleix growls next to me, I don't know when I jump the bar that is now next to me.
—Oh. Sam says otherwise.
She points her thumb at Sam, who out of nowhere seems to have lost his speech.
—W-what? —stuttering. I don't recognize my voice.
—What the hell did you say to him?
Aleix raises her voice, walks over to Sam, who continues to stare at the ground as if that's what his life depended on.
America Silva, my bullying, is that typical blonde girl with wealthy parents, who thinks she is the center of the world, and yet she is, all the boys are crazy about America, having Latin descent she was the most beautiful girl. Even Liam was crazy about her.
As far as I'm concerned, she wears the words FOX stamped on her forehead. She looks like she may be the pretty girl but I know that she is more rotten than an apple inside after spending time falling from the tree.
She had always messed with me because of the extra kilos that she was carrying on and my Lemon breasts. That's why I'm surprised to see Sam with her. Kissing She hates me and he knows it.
—What are you two doing together?
At last, my voice has become clearer and firmer. I swallow my tears why I won't let America have one more excuse to mess with me.
—Lexie ... me. —Sam murmurs in a small voice.
He dares to look into my eyes, they are a little red and he is rigid, clenching his fists so much that his knuckles are already white.
Tell me Sam. Explain to me, Sam. Tell me it's not true, please tell me it's not true.
—Agh! Come on Sam tell him I'm your girlfriend. —he throws in annoyance.
I'm your girlfriend.
She is his girlfriend.
America and Sam. A couple...
I never thought that hearing those three words would hurt me so much. I had questioned how I felt about him, I didn't just like him, I was in love with Sam, that is, I still am.
I still am after learning that they are dating. I am in love, but he is not. He is with her. Precisely with her.
I can never fully explain how I felt at the time, but the pain in my chest, my shaky voice, and the tears threatening to come out define it best.
Today Sam broke my fucking heart.
The person in front of me is not my Sam.
—Lexie can I explain ...
Don't talk Sam. If you speak I collapse.
It was my heart speaking.
—Congratulations —I cut it off, steadying myself to form a credible smile and not show that I'm dying inside.— I am very happy for you.
At my side, Aleix is as surprised as everyone, but I do my best to appear normal.
—Very well. Sam our friends are waiting for us.
The way he accentuates "friends" is clear to us. Aleix, Sam, and I were inseparable. Sam looks at me one last time waiting for a word to come out of my mouth, but I just say.
—Bye.
And she leaves. She is leaving my life to go to hers. He leaves my heart leaving it in a thousand pieces.
He goes with her.
Aleix jumps the bar to attend to the request of the girls that I have to one side. I turn the stool to face the shots that Aleix served me a while ago, before the catastrophic scene we experienced.
I take all three shots one after the other as I fight not to cry right here. Aleix comes over and looks at me sadly.
I feel sorry for him.
I don't blame him they all knew she was crazy about Sam, and this was a very big bomb.
I clear my throat and ask.
—Since when?
I don't have to say what I'm talking about, he knows it perfectly.
—A ... a few months after the accident.
This is enough for my poor self.
—Aleix, exactly when?
—Three months after the accident. —He answers.
—Has he come to see me?
He is silent. I look up to see him, his expression says it all, he hasn't come to see me.
—Wow, what a bomb today. —He smiled sadly.
—Listen —he takes my hand and places one on my chin. I raise my head, I meet his beautiful black eyes— Sam never went to see you at the hospital, he got away from everyone and I didn't see him for months. Until one day I saw him holding hands with her and I was so enraged because in all this time he has never asked about you. He is not the same Lexie and during all this time without you, I have been alone, Sam ignores me he has become a different boy ... just look at him —he turns my head in the direction of the group of boys in the VIP room where Sam and America, making out with drunken guys by her side — he's not the same and he doesn't deserve your tears either.
I wipe a tear that I could not contain. I rub my cheek against his hand and he smiled.
I can always count on Aleix.
—So he picks up that ass bitch, we're in a bar full of handsome boys.
She smiled shaking her head. He makes me smile whenever I feel bad or sad. He is the best friend I can have. He places his lips against mine and refills my glasses.
This is going to be a pretty long night.
