It was then William realised he had barged into a deep conversation between Luan and Evangeline. He glanced up as Evangeline had placed them with care on platters. Apparently, it was not a pancake day, but it was a disastrous morning with flour sprawled on the floor in the dining hall. It was as if a blizzard knocked into the dining hall.

Everyone else was crowded around the long table, including Zander, who sat quietly in the corner beside Melian. He looked as if he was berated by someone and William did not have to ask who gave him an earful when Melian’s face twisted with annoyance.

“I was expecting pancakes today.” William said into the ensuing silence.

Evangeline looked at William briefly before she found a seat opposite from Luan. “It appears that we don’t, William.” She pushed a silver toast rack across the table toward William.
