Girl Meets Robot Part 1

"Girl, get down now!" Eve yelled out as she leaned back, aimed her gun, and fired at the scavenger robot in front of her. Lilly didn't even have time to think about what was going on and quickly fell to the ground. She covered her ears as the sound of the guns going off echoed throughout the building.

The scavenger's mounted machine guns were hit by Eve, who was aiming right for them, causing them to malfunction. The armor on a scavenger robot was weak, so the bullets drilled right through the metal and hit their mark, breaking the internal system. "Malfunction…. Malfunction… Switching to melee combat."

"Really!?" Eve called out as she stood back up and sent a hard kick towards the charging scavenger robot, only to frown when she saw that the damn thing grabbed hold of her leg. "Stupid thing!"

"Eve, calm down! If you get riled up, you will make a mistake and cause harm to yourself!" Aiu warned she knew Eve was starting to get flustered, but she needed Eve to think straight and react how she normally would. Her actions just now were all on instinct once again. Her actions were natural as if she had done this all before, but this was not the case. Eve had always been held up in her lab working on Aiu. She had never undergone any training, and the basic combat manual she uploaded would not give her the instinct to move as she was.

" I know!" Eve yelled out as she shoved the muzzle of her gun against the eye of the scavenger and pulled the trigger. With a loud bang, the scavenger's grip loosened as it fell to the ground. Eve snorted and gave it a kick before checking to make sure it was fully shut down. "Stupid thing. Why did you make me destroy you!?" In the end, she still felt bad for destroying the robot even though it was trying to destroy her.

"Umm..." Lilly called out at the strange person in front of her. She was highly confused as to what was going on. The person in front of her was wearing a full-body suit but the scavenger, instead of shooting right away, questioned its protocol before firing. This was unheard of. But still, the person in front of her saved her life. She knew she had to show proper gratitude. "Thank you for saving me."

Eve turned and looked at the girl. Now that she was getting a good look at the girl, although her face was smeared with dirt, she was very pretty. "You alright?" Eve asked.

"Ahh yes… I am fine… Thank you..." Lilly felt a little weird. She didn't really know what to say. She did not interact with humans much. Her days were mostly spent working on A.I. and taking on side jobs creating programs or hacking things.

Eve and Lilly just stared at each other. Eve was unsure of what to say to this girl. She knew humans and A.I. were at war, so she was unsure if it would be safe to ask this girl to help her sneak into the city or not. "Aiu, what do you think?"

"I am not sure. You could reveal yourself and see how she reacts. If she screams and runs then, we know she is not the one who can help us. If she attacks, you can just kill her. But if she acts friendly even knowing you are an A.I., we may be able to use her." Aiu replied. She could think of many more scenarios, but these were the ones she felt made sense in this situation.

"You make a good point. Let's see how she reacts." Eve sighed inwardly and hoped the girl in front of her would not scream too loud. She undid her helmet and carefully pulled it off, showing her damaged mechanical skull.

Lilly stared in a daze at the sight before her eyes. She could not understand what was going on. Were not all A.I. against humans? But then she remembered what the robot in front of her said earlier, something about being put in a bind if she died.

"Y-You saved me because you need me for something?" Lilly asked. She hoped her question would not get her killed. But she still stared at Eve with calm, clear eyes.

Eve tilted her head to the side and felt the human girl was definitely a strange one. She seemed very calm right now. Even after seeing her deformed head, the girl was calm. "Well..." Eve scratched the good side of her head as she continued: "I need to get into X-Cyber City. Ah! But don't get me wrong, I have no intentions of doing any harm to the place. I actually wanted a place where I could lay low and fix my body up. As you can see, it is pretty beat up. So I was kind of hoping by saving you, you would help m..."

"Yes!" Lilly suddenly jumped up and shouted, giving Eve a start. "I will help. You can definitely get in and even have a place to lay low. It's just that I may need to power you down in order to get past the security checkpoint… Ahh, but not all the way down! You must have a sleep mode, right? It should allow you to enter a very low power state. This way, if any harm comes to you can quickly boot back up. We just need to make it so the sensors won't detect any functionality."

"A lower power state..." Eve had not checked to see if such a thing was possible. "Aiu, anything?"

"There seems to be a special mode we can enter called play dead…. But it has to be set with a timer. Once the timer is up, we will auto boot back up. There also seems to be a danger sensor that will auto boot us back up if someone tries to touch our power source." Aiu explained.

"Not bad. This system thing has a lot of things we have yet to discover." Eve felt like this system accounted for certain situations, which was good. Now that she knew she would be somewhat safe powering down, she finally said: "I can enter a lower power state that will make it look like I am not functioning but…. If anyone tries to touch my battery, I will instantly boot up and kill whoever it is, including you."

Lilly shivered hearing Eve's words. She quickly promised: "I swear I will not let anyone touch your power core. They will only run a scan and will not even check your body."
