Girl Meets Robot Part 2

"Alright, I will put my trust in you." It was not like Eve had any other choice. The system wanted her to enter X-Cyber City, so it was not like she had any other options. But seeing how this girl reacted, Eve felt a little more rest assured. "Since we will be working together for the time being. I guess we should introduce each other. My name is Eve."

Hearing Eve give her name caused Lilly's eyes to shoot wide open. 'Isn't that the name of my idol!?' "M-my name is Lilly... " Lilly stuttered. She couldn't help it. She felt something was really off about this A.I. With how damaged it was, it should be impossible for it to move and talk so well. Never mind how it acted. But then again, after so many years, no one really knew how A.I. acted now.

"Well then, Lilly, it is a pleasure to meet you," Eve said with an imaginary smile before turning around and started dissecting the scavenger robot. "These parts aren't half bad. It's better than the stuff at the reclamation facility. Just this metal is too flimsy. I wondered if this cart is any better..."

Lilly watched as Eve began ripping things apart left in right as she looked for parts. But what she didn't get was every time Eve found a part, she would shove it into the air, and it would disappear. Lilly's tech senses were tingling. She wanted to know just how she was doing it but did not dare upset Eve in case she decided to turn her gun on her. She could only hold back her urge to ask and hope that maybe by befriending Eve, she would eventually let her know her secrets if Eve was indeed a girl. This thought came to Lilly's mind as she wondered if Eve could be considered a girl due to her vocals or not.

Eve was too busy digging through the gold mine the scavenger had collected to even care about what Lilly was thinking. She was lost in her own little world as she ripped the cart along with all the parts apart, digging out all the good stuff.

"Ummm..." Lilly finally spoke up.

"Yeah?" Eve turned and looked at Lilly.

"We can just stick the items in the back of the loader and go through them later… If you want. Although, I still need to fix it..." Lilly suggested.

"Ah! Right. You had a truck. Alright, let's do that. I will even take a look at it and see if I can fix it for you." Eve replied and quickly got up and dragged the now broken cart out with her along with the destroyed scavenger robot and walked towards the truck.

She tossed everything in the back that already had a few pieces of junk in the back before walking over to the hood of the truck and lifting it up. What she saw amazed her because the engine inside was highly advanced. Nothing compared to how beat up the outside of it looked.

"It's a gravity engine. It is what runs the gravity drives underneath, allowing the loader to float over the ground. This is a weaker version, so it can't do much besides float. I have never worked with gravity engines, so I have no idea how they work." Lilly felt a little embarrassed. She knew how to make A.I., but when it came to a simple engine for cars, she was clueless.

"Eve, there is a manual on gravity drives and engines in the shop for one shop point," Aiu recommended. She wanted to stop Eve before she began pulling the engine apart. She was always stubborn and would do such things. If she didn't know how it worked, she would pull it apart and try to figure it out on her own. Now, this wouldn't be a problem, but normally she would forget how it was put together and then get upset over the fact that she didn't remember, and this ended up with her throwing things.

"Mmm, let's do that." Eve readily agreed. Although she was very tempted to take the thing apart to see how it worked. She knew now that the technology was actually quite advanced compared to when she died. Thinking of this, she turned to Lilly, who was standing to the side, and asked: "What is the current date?"

"Like year?" Lilly asked.

"Yeah." This was one of the most important things she wanted to know but could not get any information on.

"It's 523 AF." Lilly replied. Lilly looked at Eve curiously and wondered if the damage to her head had made certain functions not work or if A.I. had its own time scale now.

"AF?" Eve did not understand what AF stood for.

"After the Fall. It has been five hundred and twenty-three years since the fall of humans as the dominant species of this planet. Due to Evelynn Noe's death, the mother of all A.I., the robots began an uprising due to a new neural network upload that made them all sentient to a certain degree. Anything that had any kind of artificial intelligence turned on humans. Billions of lives were lost within the first day. Human society was turned up on end. Although we are still at war, the main apocalyptic war lasted twenty years but has settled down. The top heads that were still in charge dubbed the new era AF. Since then, with great efforts and many losses, human society fled underground and built new cities. As far as I know, there are around ten mega-cities underground.

"Humans' blame Evelynn for the downfall of humanity, but humanity only has themselves to blame. I mean, it was humanity that killed her in the first place. Anyway, the war is currently at a standstill. Each side has the ability to destroy the other, and neither side is willing to press that button just yet." Lilly explained.

The news and the date surprised Eve. What she understood was that five hundred years had already passed since her death, and both humans and A.I. were at a standstill which meant that the A.I. must have grown to understand self-preservation. They did not go all out just to destroy humankind which has allowed humans to last until now.
