I felt like I was floating in space. I try to open my eyes but to no result, all I see is darkness.
How did it end out like this?
I was just getting groceries and blank. Then I suddenly ended up here. I feel lost in thought for a few minutes until it gets interrupted by a man's voice. The booming voice feels as if it's everywhere.
"What a pathetic life." It says sharply.
I'm shocked by his words and can only hope he's not talking about me.
The voice starts talking again and this time talks as if checking off a list.
"Playing video games tirelessly every day, refusing to do basic hygienic edict, living as a shut-in for all your life,"
I try to communicate my thoughts with the man but im unable to say anything. In anycase, I feel taking a shower a week is just fine...
"Not going outside for social gatherings, wasting money on useless merchandise,"
I mean do you count talking to people in a video game socializing?
"Specifically it seems You've also spent countless hours of your time playing a sertain game online."
well, I-
"It seems the time you spend wasting away is not only selfish but actively harmful to other people around you."
...
The god-like voice gives out a sigh and waits a moment.
"Then you get hit by a speeding truck."
I mean when he puts it like that it almost seems like most of my life was for nothing… but that can't be true.
The voice again has another pause.
"You seem to really enjoy your games of yours,'' he says. After he said that he gives a small chuckle and even though I can't see I can tell he's giving me a shit-eating grin. "Well, boy It's your lucky day. It seems like a spot has just opened up."
Opened uped? What's he talking about?
"It seems these humans are getting more adventurous every day…"
After a moment of pause; a loud whooshing noise fills the void. The feeling of the wind flowing past me and into this whirlwind is strong enough to make my hair flail around.
Whoa whoa whoa this is all too fast. Just minutes ago I didn't even believe in a god and now this God-like being is talking to me and talking about taking me to some type of fantasy world?!
This is just too crazy I'm dreaming, right? This is totally out of the realm of possibility, I- It just doesn't make sense.
"Remember boy, don't think that this is some sort of present. Life isn't as easy as your game, you're going to have to survive."
As the wind starts to get stronger and stronger I can feel my insides burning up almost as if my soul is being tampered with. It's enough to make a normal person yell in agony.
If I could, that is.
The sensation is like none I have ever felt, having my insides feel like they're being rearranged. After only a few moments of this, I can feel it soon dissipate.
I feel so relieved to finally stop feeling that agonizing pain. I feel so relaxed now...It's almost like...I could fall...asleep.
I slowly woke up from what felt like a day-long nap. I should probably get up by now. I need to get ready for school… No, I think it should be fine for just a few more minutes. I don't need to wake up early. It should be fine for me to go back to bed.
That's what I tell myself anyway but for some reason, it's incredibly uncomfortable. The draft was way too chilling. Not only that but my bed feels ponty? Almost like grass…
My curiosity of this uncomfortable position I find myself in makes me slowly open my eyes revealing the last thing I wanted to see. Strands of grass lay right in front of my face and the beming sun shins down on me.
Scared I quickly sit up, forgetting about my tiredness. I rub my eyes and look around to see if I'm seeing things but all this does is hit the realization harder. Instead of waking up in my room in my bed, I, for some reason, woke up in a field in who knows where.
Looking around It looks like I'm in a green flat meadow. I can't see any houses or people anywhere Looking up at the sun it's about to turn sunset. I mean I know I'm a shut-in but this is even late for me.
After a few moments of sitting there, I flop back on the ground hand over my face trying to remember how I got here. I try to slow down and retrace my steps. First, my mom told me to get groceries, then I went to the store, picked them up, and was heading home when…The bright light from the truck was the last thing I remember...
I soon feel an agonizing headache after trying to remember more. Holding my head I wait a bit for the pain to go away.
Am I dead? Is this what the afterlife is like just an open field? Or maybe it's something else...
As I sit there trying to figure this out, something more important comes to my attention. My hand feels kinda weird… Like it's heavier than normal? I inspect my palm but find nothing but as soon as I flip my hand I see a small gem embedded into my skin. My small moment of calm turns back into panic as I sit up again.
"What the heck is this thing!?" I say as I pick at the weird rock. "Who put this here? This whole situation is too weird to be real. Am I dreaming?"
My frantic rambling must have been heard from somebody because I soon heard an annoyed and sleepy voice not too far from me.
"Where am I?!" The annoying voice shouts with an angry and confused tone.
I look to my left to find Ren? What's she doing here? She starts to yell again,
"What is this?!" she looks down at her left palm, more scared than anything, and looks around, frantic.
She meets eyes with me and I can feel her expression change from fear to anger. Her face was strong enough to make me flinch back.
"Akarrrri!" she shouts in my direction.
Her initial reaction is so upfront and anger-filled that I'm taken aback. She starts coming at me stomping the ground as she comes closer. I feel I should back up but all I can do is lean back in my seated position and try to explain.
"Whoa Woah Woah I'm just as confused-" Before I could finish she cuts me off.
"Shut up, I don't want to hear it!" she interrupts "This is some messed up prank of yours! Is this what you call funny?!"
"If you would just listen to me, I would've explained I have no idea what's going on either." I quickly retorted.
Her face changes from her fires into more of an angry one.
"Oh yeah? And why should I believe you? I bet you set this whole thing up."
I give out a quick exaggerated sigh.
"And how do you think I would've done that? I'm also in a field in the middle of nowhere, wouldn't it make more sense to leave you here?"
Ren starts to back down and seems to be thinking. I used her science to continue.
"How do you think I would even get us out here? With my car that I don't have?"
Ren starts biting her nail.
"Or maybe my friends helped me out, oh what? I don't have any of those either." I explain.
"Ok ok, I get it. You don't have to make yourself sound more pathetic than you already are." Ren states.
I shrug off this insult And look down at the grass.
"So what now?" Ren asks as she starts looking around.
"Don't know,'' I replied, "I guess it would be best to figure out where we are."
This comment doesn't look to ease Ren's fear, as she keeps walking in circles trying to scout her soundings.
I decide to spend the moment inspecting the weird rock embedded into my skin. The gem is a bluish-green color and twice the size of my thumb. The shape is of a 4 edged diamond. My attempts to remove the gem fail so I try pressing on it. At first, I expected the same result but to my surprise suddenly a screen appeared in front of my face. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Strength 10
Speed 15
Defence 10
Intelligence 20
Right in front of my face, was what looked like a video game stats screen. There's no way this is real. Am I hallucinating? I go out to reach for the screen when a familiar voice snaps me out of my trance.
"Why are you standing there looking dumber than normal?" she asked.
Ren's rude comment was enough for me to start to act rationally but still shaken.
"Hey Ren, can you tap on your gem in your hand?"
Ren looks at me with confusion and looks at the gem embedded in the back of her left hand.
"Uhh why should I do something like that?" she asks, annoyed.
"Please just do it" I quickly replied, still shaken.
Ren looks surprised from my more forceful tone but agrees, and slowly moves her finger to the gem. It seems she still doesn't trust me.
When Ren finally taps on the stone, she looks up for a second and jumps back landing on the ground.
"What is that?!" She replies frantically pointing in the air in front of her.
I sit down with my feet crossed and my hands in my face to try and think. I guess I'm not hallucinating. I start to smile as I get an idea that's been nagging more for a while now.
Huh, I can't believe it but the most likely option is that I got reincarnated in some type of game-like world. I always thought this type of thing was totally fictional but here I am.
I continue to sit there continuing to come down to the same conclusion of the situation.
If I really am in some sort of video game there's one thing I feel I must do. It's the same thing I wanted when I first played Atherian Online. Which was of course to be number one.
Since I was never able to do it in Atherian maybe this is my second chance. It's too bad I can't think of how I would do this as it's difficult to think when there's an annoying sister frantically asking me questions.
"Are you just going to keep sitting there or are you going to tell me what's going on?" Ren askes.
"Just give me a second I need to-" I get cut off.
"No no no I've been patient enough so you better tell me what I just saw or else!"
I give out an exhausted sigh and get up to look my sister in the eye.
"I think I might know what's going on, '' I explained to Ren.
"Well you better give me a good explanation." she replies.
It would be weird if I just outright said we got reincarnated so I'll try and lay it down easy for her.
"Ren this might sound dumb but... I think... we're in some type of video game."
Ren stands there for a moment as if trying to understand what I just said. Then gives me an irritated expression and simply replies.
"So your stupid and insane now."
