Arguments Infused With Understanding

When I heard Akari's weird suggestion I just looked at him and then at the gem in my hand. Did I hear him right? Why on earth would he want me to tap on it?

I attempt to explain my complaints but surprisingly I get shot down. It's very rare to see him be so assertive about something, other than his game of course.

I look down at the gem and take a deep breath. Well too nothing bad could happen, right? I retch My hand down and tap on the small gem.

Almost instantly after touching it a dim light came from the gem and displayed a screen right in front of me.

HP 15/15 MP 15/15 PL 90

Strength 10

Speed 20

Defence 20

Intelligence 10

Authority(???)

The sudden flash of the screen was like a jumpscare, causing me to jump back in surprise. I feel myself land on the ground as I try to understand what I'm seeing. I try to understand what is going on but nothing on the screen makes sense.

I quickly find out the source of the screen is from the gem and make the quick conclusion to tap on it again. After I do this, the screen quickly disappears giving me a moment to calm down my breathing, which has become fast and uneasy.

I look over to my brother to see if he can explain what I just saw, but all he's doing is sitting down, seeming to be thinking to himself. I then decide to call out to him, but he continues to stay there ignoring me. Seeing how that wasn't working I got irritated.

Why isn't he explaining the problem he just caused me?

My attempts get more aggressive and assertive until finally, he gets up. I stood there patiently until I heard his response which was something I was totally confused by.

"Ren this might sound dumb but... I think... we're in some type of video game." Akari explained to me.

Video game? Like the thing, Akari ruined his life playing and now we're inside of one? No, that's insane... right?

Ok, I had a feeling Ren wouldn't like my idea, even though I don't think it's that realistic but it's all I got.

When I first thought about it my heart skipped a beat. The possibility of being inside a game was like a dream. But since Ren didn't really play games I guess she wouldn't really like it.

"Well, do you have any other ideas?" I decided to say after she insulted me.

Ren makes a face of irritation.

"Anything I could think of would be better than that stupid idea, I mean come on your not serious right?" There's an eerie silence.

Ren looks at me with surprise.

"You are serious" she steps back.

I mean I might not be totally confident with my conclusion of where we are but those stats look like a video game.

Ren starts to ramble about all the other things that might be going on which include the afterlife, an illusion, a dream, and a science experiment. None of which convinced me.

After her short ramble, she looks at me for answers. I walk over to her and put my hand on her shoulder and give her a smile

"Nope, this is definitely a video game."

After I say this I feel a wave of regret as Ren's face starts to twist into a frustrated and teary-eyed expression.

"You asshole, take this seriously!"

As she says this she hits me in my waist. As she does this, I feel the light pain in my waist which was expected. But what I didn't expect was the cold water droplet that fell on my head. I look up and feel another droplet on my face this time. I guess I was too busy figuring out what was going on to realize the weather we were about to experience.

Ren also looked like she figured out it was about to rain, which didn't seem to cool her down. She starts to express her anger.

"Oh great this is just perfect, we wake up in the middle of nowhere, find a rock in our hand, my brother has gone crazy and now we're going to get soaked!"

She's being a bit of a drama queen, but she's not wrong. This isn't the best situation.

"Well then let's hurry up and find some shelter!" I say, excited.

Ren looks at me with confusion and asks about my chipper tone. I dismiss it and start to look around. Combined with the clouds blocking the sun and it being almost sunset, it's getting pretty dark. So I decided to start looking for lights.

I stand there squinting, with my hand above my eyes to try and see better. After turning 360 degrees, I find some lights to the north following the dirt road. On top of that, it doesn't seem to be that far away.

I point to the direction of the slightly dimmed lights and make an exaggerated step in that direction. But as I do I feel a tug on my arm. It's from Ren and she doesn't seem to be happy with my idea.

"You're acting weird, why are you acting so nonchalant about this?"

As she told me this, I found myself answering that question easily in my head.

It's because ever since I was little I always thought how cool It would be to live in something that I spent so much of my time playing.

I open my mouth to tell her this but I realize the embarrassment in admitting something like that.

"I was just trying to make the best out of a bad situation."

I knew Ren wouldn't like that answer but it's the best one I could think of.

"Now you can stay here and get soaked while I go to sleep with a roof over my head," I say this as I pull away from her.

After a few seconds of walking away from her, I hear hurried footsteps approach. Ren decided to come with me after all. I never really intended on leaving her behind. I wish I could enjoy my stroll with my sister but the rain started to pick up so we started rushing to the place where the lights were coming from, which I hoped was a nice town.
