A Nice Town?

The rain which only started out as just a small sprinkle had gotten harder and denser the more we walked. Me and Ren had already been in a hurry to get to the town but it seemed like it wasn't fast enough.

The rain had by now had become really bad, like stupid bad. What the hell did I do to mother nature to deserve this shit?!

Great, this is exactly what I want, to be running through the pouring rain at night with a sister that hates me. I guess it isn't all bad however as I can see we reach the town.

I'm glad I wasn't hallucinating the light or anything but now I really hope I wasn't hallucinating, because right in front of me instead of seeing a normal town it looked more like an old century village.

My excitement that was supposed to be there was suppressed for the moment. Not only because of the rain but also that I had kinda known it would be like this.

First I thought I died but I woke up in a random field but the gem and the stats screen, and now the medieval-looking village in front of me.

It really cemented the half-exciting half terrifying idea that this was a different world.

The main reason I figured out it was a village was maybe the half wooden half stone 8 foot tall wall that surrounded the whole thing. There was also a gate right in front of us which seemed to have 2 empty watchtowers that were being illuminated by fire lanterns.

I looked back to see Ren's reaction to retching the town but what I saw surprised me. Ren had for a while now been holding my jacket to keep up with me.

I hadn't really been looking to check on her so when I looked back to see a drenched girl out of breath looking like she might pass out it was very surprising.

It's not like we can stop when we've come this close however so I start running into the town with Ren close behind. I was hoping there would be someone to help us but there doesn't seem to be anyone around so I just assumed we would let ourselves in.

Running on what I assumed was the main road I hoped to find someone to help us. Looking around though I soon figured out that the streets were totally barren.

The houses seemed to be in good shape with the half wooden, half stone, being quite nice looking for a medieval town. But looking around I still couldn't find a single person.

The town almost looked like a ghost town not a single light was on from any house. The only thing that illuminated us was the few lattens on the side of the road and the moon.

Dam this sucks time for plan b. I take a steep right to go towards the buildings. Once I reach the buildings I go in the spaces in between the houses.

Looking up I can tell my temporary solution worked as I feel no rainfall on my face. Instead, I see the roofs connecting together to stop the rain from falling in the alleyway.

I finally stop running and fall down, leaning myself against the wall. I couldn't tell what was sweat and what was the rain.

"I know it might not be the most comfortable but it's the best we got," I say breathlessly

I expect to hear a sarcastic reply but instead, all I hear is some heavy breathing from across from me. I look up to see why and I see Ren sitting slouched over. I get reminded again how exhausting it must have been for her.

She most likely passed out because of exhaustion, sleeping does seem like a good idea.

Seeing how I'm more exhausted than her, I can feel myself start to fall asleep as well. Not like I had much of a choice as my entire body just wanted to sleep, soon my vision goes black and I drift into a relaxing dream.

I open my eyes to see the morning sunlight blinding both of them. I take a second to collect my thoughts as last night's events catch up with my brain. Once my eyes finally are fully open and have all the sleep out of them, I see Ren fully awake and ready to go.

Not only that, but my stat screen is open as well. Wait, my stat screen? So I guess I wasn't imagining it, it really is a video game-looking stat screen.

I quickly scan my stats screen which shows some of my stats have changed. My speed went up from 15 to 19. As well as my PL, whatever that is, went up from 100 to 104. Not half bad for running in the rain for a straight half an hour.

I was about to start geeking out at the thought of my stats going up but I noticed one last change to my stats screen. In the bottom left there was some new text that said quest.

Quest? Like a fetch and quest or something? I don't remember getting a quest from anyone so I don't know what it could be.

I reached out my hand to try and open it but as I did my sister must have seen I was awake because I soon felt a pain in my side. "Well look who's finally up, do you know how long I've been waiting for you to wake up?"

Getting a kick in my side and getting berated by my sister wasn't exactly my definition of a good wake-up call. "If you were so bothered, why don't you wake me up next time?"

It's not like I'm a deep sleeper or anything so it shouldn't have been that hard. But instead of answering, she changes the topic.

"Well that doesn't matter, what matters is figuring out what's going on." Ren states "For now let's just go with the idea that we are not near our hometown anymore."

I think it's a bit more than that, personally, I don't even think we're on our planet anymore "What made you decide that?"

Ren obviously not liking my reply gives a sharp command "Tch just shut up and let go. I don't want to be sleeping in an alleyway again." Go? Go where I wonder. I kinda thought this alley was getting kinda homey. What about my friend ratty?

"It's not like I want to starve in a dark alleyway so I was thinking of finding someplace to eat."

Ren looks down at her clothes "Also I place to dry off would be nice"

I stand up and look at her confused. "How are you supposed to find that when this place is like a ghost town." Ren gives me a smug look and leads me out of the alley and what I see totally surprises me.

The streets were filled with people and horse-drawn wagons. The noise of people filled the streets to the point I was surprised I didn't notice.

My gocking was noticed by Ren who decided a quick elbow was the best option to get me out of my daze. I would have preferred a light tap but I doubt that would happen coming from Ren.

Last night I was just going on a hunch but now I was totally sure that this was some type of video game world. Back in my old world, which feels weird to say, by the way, There was a small genre of games that started like this so I kinda had an idea.

"Hey Ren, ever thought about my idea about this not being our world anymore?"

Ren quickly looks back at me with an annoyed exception. "Again with that dumb idea of yours, look I will admit this is a little strange."

"A little?" I question

"Hmph" Ren crosses her arms and walks away from me into the street.

Ok at this point she's just denying it for some reason. I thought before that her stubbornness was annoying but now it's on another level.

I watch as Ren walks up to a random person in the street most likely to try and talk to them. As I realize this I decide to pay close attention to see what happens. Most likely this is going to suck.

"Umm hello sir, do you happen to know a good place to grab a bite?"

The man looked at Ren confused and was silent for a moment but then as expected he spoke in a language I couldn't understand. "Faniuy lwa echo?" As I hear this I put my hand in my face to hide my cringe-ridden face.

I kinda noticed when I woke up and heard the bustling of people but I couldn't understand anything they were saying. At first, I thought it was the density of the crowd and their words getting mixed together.

I did think it would be weird if people in a different world spoke the same language. At least this confirms it, how inconvenient.

Ren, not knowing what to do, stood there awkwardly in shock. As fun as it would be to watch Ren suffer I can also feel the awkwardness and decide to help out.

I quickly grab Ren's shoulder pulling her away from the random bystander. After a few moments, we leave the confused bystander and move into the crowd. As we walk, Ren noticing my hand still on her should hit it away.

Giving me a chance to look around I realize how many people are truly in the streets. Now it's not like I'm scared of other people or anything but I definitely feel uneasy walking around big crowds like this.

It also doesn't help that some people are making glances at me and Ren. I can only assume it's because of our clothing.

Seeing how I'm wearing my hoodie and sweatpants and Ren with her daily outside attire I can see why people might look at us weird.

"So what do we do now?" I look at Ren confused, not understanding her question.

Ren speaks up again looking at the ground as she walks "I mean what are we going to do about food?"

Her words take me back and make me stop walking to understand this question. Ren also stops and turns to face me "You have a plan don't you?" Her face looked like she was lost on what to do.

I was so distracted by everything that's happened I had totally forgotten. It's kinda scary how I forgot about food and water so I guess I have something to thank Ren for.

Thinking about this I soon start to feel the dryness in my mouth and slowly forming pain in my stomach. Apparently, I had been so enrolled of the idea of being in a new world that I zoned out my hunger and thirst… Thanks, Ren…

Looking back Ren must be even more hungry than me since I'm pretty sure she skipped dinner so it must be even worse for her.

"Umm uhh of course I do." I lie trying to make her feel better.

"Oh ya then please inform me The Great neet brother." Ren gives me a smug look.

...

Fuck you, Ren.

After some quick thinking, I look at Ren triumphantly. "Well, my poor-minded little sister I can't believe you even have to ask." Ren looks at me with one eyebrow raised after she hears what I say.

"We obviously have to look for an adventurers guild."

I stood there for a while but I'm just met with silence. After standing there awkwardly Ren decides to speed walk away from me as if I insulted her.

The last thing I want to do is run more, but the other option of being alone in a crowd of people is enough for me to quickly chase after her. This is going to be harder than I thought.
