I catch my breath as I finally meet up with Ren. Trying to keep up with her in such a dense crowd was harder than I thought. It would have been way easier Just to find the adventurers guild.
Why did I chase her instead of looking for the adventurers guild? You may ask.
Well you see it's very simple I- wait a minute... who am I explaining this to? I hope I'm not going crazy or anything but for now, I'll just blame my brain for adapting to a different environment.
Well in any case I don't want to be separated from my sister in god knows where. What if she gets kidnapped or she gets hurt. It's just too dangerous of an option to leave her by herself.
I look up after catching my breath to see Ren sitting down in the center of town. It looks like she's trying to dry her clothes because she's placed her clothes down in the sunlight.
"Look I know what I'm talking about, if we just find an adventurers guild I'll be able to get us a nice place to stay."
"Good to hear" Ren doesn't even bother keeping her focus off drying her clothes.
"Look if you just come with me-" I get cut off.
"Just go look for it yourself" with Ren's sharp response she looks at me angrily.
Damit I should have expected as much "Fine I will you just wait!" I yell and turn in the opposite direction of her to go find the guild. Since adventure guilds are such a staple in stories from games to books there's no way there's not one.
Normally adventure guilds will give quests for things ranging from killing monsters to collecting rare materials. All of these requests give you a decent amount of money and should be good to help us get set up in this town.
After I find the guild I'm going to rub in all the money I'm going to get for doing quests and killing monsters. Just the thought makes me hurry up and jog around town to find it asap.
20 minutes later
So uhh... There wasn't any adventurers guild... anywhere in the town. Trust me I even double-checked.
When I went around town I didn't even see anyone that looked like an adventure either. Everyone either looked like a merchant, a store owner, or just some normal looking person.
Well I use "normal looking" in a broad sense. At first, I thought I was imagining it but after confirming it I guess everyone in this town has colored hair? I mean It all looked natural too blond red blue and even silver hair.
Not a single person with black hair seems to live in this entire town. Well except me and Ren that is...
It was so strange too, I honestly was expecting more attention but people only took glances and moved on. Nobody even questioned me. This whole thing is just strange...
Now though I'm getting made fun of by Ren like "of course there's no adventures guild" or "thanks for wasting my time." I guess I kinda deserve it but this assault is just too much. I mean what type of fantasy medieval town doesn't have an adventure guild?
After Rens berates me for a bit she gives out an exaggerated sigh "so have any more genius ideas?"
I stand there looking down after her question not sure how to answer. There's a small pause but I soon answer her.
"Yea I think I have one" I look up at her with a smirk. It's time for plan two. Ren looks at me questionably for my quick change from sulking to excited.
I get up from my slouch position and walk into the dense crowd giving Ren a thumbs up as she leaves my sight.
As soon as I leave her sight my smile fads. What's my plan you might ask? Well, you see I never had a real plan. I just wanted to get away from her. I also want to get out of this crowd but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
When I first thought about the idea of living in a video in real life I thought it would be so fun. However, this entire thing is just too draining. I thought it would be as fun as my game but this is just too much work.
Looking around the crowd I see I'm getting the familiar weird glances from earlier which is expected. What's not expected is the three armored guards following me.
At first, I just thought they were patrolling or something but after turning down multiple roads they were still close to me. 2 of them have stayed behind me while the other one seems to be diagonal to me.
Normally I'll get some type of social anxiety from being outside but this is turning it up to 11. I can't handle this much attention
This is just getting stupid I don't want to deal with this. I don't even know what the heck I did. Whatever, let's just figure out a way to get them to stop following me like a bunch of creeps.
I turn off the main road and... yup glancing behind me I can see the three of them enter the ally. I'm not sure why they're following me and not just arresting me for whatever I did but it's time to lose them.
Down the alley, I turn right into a connected ally. Once out of view of the guards I run for it. I'm able to run out of the alley when they must have realized I've made a run for it.
Trust me the last thing I want to be doing is running anymore but I doubt getting put in jail for whatever I did would be any better. I think I made the right choice in this situation.
Running down the main road I'm hoping to meet up with Ren just in case some guards come for her. As I continue to run I'm forced to shove my way through people trying not to slow down.
This, however, is just making even more people look at me honestly this attention is almost nauseating but I have to get to Ren quickly.
As I continue to run I come back to the center of town where I see Ren sitting there spacing out. Ren also notices me at the same time.
Still running I go over to Ren waiting to explain the situation "Ren we got to go!" Ren looks at me with suspicion at my sudden statement.
"What are you talking about what happened to your plan?"
"Look now's not the time"
Ren, obviously not understanding the situation, continues to question me while I attempt again to get her to hurry up but it's not until I hear someone shout something behind me that I know I'm in trouble.
I turn around to see some guards in iron armor covering their entire body and one is pointing at me. There maybe 30 feet away and could easily get me given a minute. So I quickly decide to grab Ren's hand and run in a random direction away from the medieval-looking guards.
My sudden movement makes Ren let out a little yelp and almost lose her footing but she rebalances and runs connected with me as I quickly run off the main road onto an alleyway trying to escape the view of the guards like I did before
The guards continue to follow us down the alleyway making a chase scene where I zigzagged through multiple alleyways and the guards close behind. This lasts for maybe 3 minutes until I find an abandoned looking house.
This house is just at an open part of the alleyways that seem to go into the poorer district of the town. If me and Ren run in there it'll be much harder to hide and we can't just turn around.
Seeing how I'm about to collapse I make the quick decision to run inside the home through the broken doorway. The outside of the house almost looks like it was burnt down and the inside enforces that idea.
The walls and floor have been colored in a black char. Some of the walls look like they might fall at any second but I think if we stay hidden we may be in the clear.
"What the hell were you thinking?!" I screamed after Akari explained what happened. Supposably after he left me alone again, some guards just started following him?! Even worse, he ran from them! Just great, just great.
"I didn't know what t-"
"It doesn't matter! Because whatever you did definitely didn't help. Now, because of you were practically fugitives!" Now that seemed to shut him up. God, he's so annoying. This is all getting on my nerves and I need to wrap this around my head.
While walking back and forth and ranting to myself, I look around the room we're in just to understand where we're going to stay for the night. When running in the house there was this long hallway with rooms and missing or half-broken doors.
And a few steps away from me was a broken or burnt couch? It's hard to tell. There's a doorway diagonal from the hallway we entered, and through the doorway, I could see cabinets and counters. So that's the kitchen.
Spotting the kitchen I walk over there to check out more of the house. Broken glass and empty cans of food lie on the floor. I don't mean to be a stereotype but cleaning helps me calm down and gives me something to do.
Since we are going to be here for a while. I might as well tidy up the place. I roll up my sleeves and get ready to clean the counter and pick up the dishes.
Ok, I'm just gonna clean the kitchen and maybe the living room so we have somewhere to sleep- what the- I fell, of course, I thought to myself. And there's glass on the floor hopefully I didn't cut myself. I sit myself up as I look at myself making sure glass didn't cut me, I feel a pair of eyes on me as I look up to see Akari staring at me. "Is it comfy down there? "
"Shut up" I got up off the floor and saw what I tripped on.
"What is that?"
"What's what?"
"This thing" I crouch down and move trash out of the way. Akari crouches down next to me. "Looks like a hatch" he buts in. I go to pull it up and only get it open a little bit before I look to Akari next to me. "You gonna stand there like an idiot or help me?"
After Akari hurried over to help we pulled open the hatch with all our might. The hatch lands on the ground lifting up dust and dirt on the ground.
Looking down the hatch all I see is a dark and scary-looking basement… Maybe it wasn't a good idea to open it. It's too bad my brother thinks otherwise.
"Welp, I'm gonna take a look" Is what I hear as Akari walks over to the latter going into the basement.
