I find myself sitting in a metal chair with many other similar-looking metal chairs. In front of the room, I see a whiteboard and a turned-off projector. There's posters in the room that read "The more you practice the better you get".
Oh, I get it now, how dumb of me. Of course, it's a Friday, which means I have school. How dumb of me not to realize sooner. Looking around the class I see many students talking and doing their work.
I can't quite get a good look at any of their faces. The whole thing kinda seems like a blur.
Looking around I start to get a feeling of uneasiness. I wonder why it's not like anything bad is happening. Instead, I'm uneasy about even being in the class in the first place…
Oh, right I forgot something else… I hate school…
As soon as I thought that, all of the kids in the room looked directly at where I sat. Not wanting to see their gaze I looked down terrified. Why did I come back here?
"Why did you come back?" One of the things talk.
"Shu- shut up!" I replied hastily.
Instead of doing as I said, the other things start to ask as well. Instead of a chant their questions are all different and asked at different times overlapping each other.
"Why are you here?"
"Who do you think you are?"
What do you think you'll achieve?"
The focus was deafening and it felt as if they were surrounding me. However, one voice through all the chaos was heard. One of a girl at an age slightly younger than mine.
"Why did you betray me."
This mysterious voice gives me the courage to quickly lift my head to see who had said that but instead of seeing a person I see a familiar ceiling to an underground room.
Quickly looking around I see that I'm in the underground hideout I had been living in for the past few days. Feeling the softness of the bed and the comfortable blanket I quickly calm down.
"A nightmare" I unconsciously say out loud
Strength 10
Stamina 20
Defence 10
Intelligence 35 +5
After pinching myself to make sure this isn't some weird dream, I check my stats screen and nood at my progress of Learning The Language. By now I've gotten to stage 5 out 10 according to the quest tab that is.
And of course, I can't forget about my new skills. Even my intelligence went up quite a lot.
Now it's not like the title "Book Worm" Is that good of a title but it's better than the other one, which thankfully I can just switch whichever whenever I want
I guess the other two stats aren't that bad either. I haven't really tried them out on anything but reading so for but they've been quite helpful so far.
Looking off to the side of my bed it makes sense how I made so much progress. The messy pile of books filled the left side of the bed making it basically impossible for me to get off that way. I had nothing to do for the past 3 days but read so it's not like I had much of a choice.
At first, I couldn't even read what I was looking at so It was super boring but about halfway through I started understanding some of the words. Witch was strange, to say the least. The books themselves wasn't very interesting so it didn't really matter.
From what I could gather I think half of them were some journal thing. Probably of the guy that lived here. While the others were probably about this world's version of magic, which I also skimmed through.
I mean I would have loved to learn to cast a fireball or something trust me but since I could barely understand what I was reading and the pictures it just made it more complicated so I just gave up.
At this point, I could maybe have an awkward conversation about where the restroom is so I'm not very confident. Looking back I think I know what that gut said to Ren when she first tried to speak to someone.
It was basically just "what the hell did ya just say?"
"Huh," I let out a sigh.
Living in this fantasy world isn't as fun as I thought it would be, at least not yet. I look over at Ren to see her on the other side of the room passed out. It seems my bad sleep schedule has passed over here too.
For some reason, Ren had been super suspicious of me. Even when she was reading I still felt like something was staring at me. Sometimes I wonder what her problem is.
Now however she's asleep which is the perfect time to enact my nighttime escape plan.
Looking over at the empty water bucket It seems like I'll have to go refill it. What a shame I think with a smirk.
Another thing seems to run out as well, the bookshelf here doesn't seem to have any books left either… It's not like I can re-read old books either, trust me I tried. So it looks like I have no choice but to leave.
I put on my brown shaw and quietly go up the ladder with a bucket in hand. After struggling to open the metal hatch I slowly open it to see if anyone is around.
Thankfully it looks clear so I climb out and quietly close back the hatch, making sure to cover it with a rug. It was Ren's idea but I don't really mind it.
It also seems my instinct was correct and seeing how dark it is I can only guess it's the middle of the night. I feel a twinge of excitement as I leave the abandoned house I've stayed cooped up in for so long.
Looking up and down the road, the town looks as abandoned as ever at night time. Not even a single light is shown from any of the houses. I leave the alleyway and start to walk down the road to the well.
Normally I wouldn't mind staying in a room for days on end. Actually, I would prefer it in a normal circumstance but this is different.
So why am I so excited to go fill up some water you may ask? Well, first I want to figure out why I'm talking to myself but I guess I'll save that for another day. As to why I'm excited to go fill up some water, well let's just say I'm not out here just for some water.
Now I'm not really sure where I'm going as Ren normally does but from what she told me it's at the center of town. Thankfully seeing things is real easy tonight as the full moon's light slightly illuminates the town.
Looking not too far in front of me I see what I think is the well. It's quite big and luxurious for a well but I'm pretty sure I know what a well looks like… Now I just have to figure out how to use it…
…
After a bit of time, I finally figured out how the well works and grabbed my small bucket of water. I don't know what you want from me. It's not like I've ever used one of these before. Normally in a game, you just press a button, so this was definitely different.
In any case, I have my bucket of water and I'm ready to activate my plan. Heading back to the little hideout I drop off the water bucket inside the half-broken building and head back to the main road.
Instead of heading to the center of town, I headed to the edge of town to the gate I had passed on my first night here. If I remember correctly I don't remember seeing any of the things I'm looking for now.
I'll just blame that on us not paying attention cause of the rain but now I'm hoping ill be able to find one.
I walk up to the big gate learning on it to look out on the plain-looking meadow we have arrived in. I start searching standing at the gate trying to scan the area.
Come on… Where are you…
In the corner of my eye, I catch A glimpse of what I think I'm looking for, since it's dark I can't really make it out. But I could never mistake the jelly-like wiggle it's so famous for.
The slime almost lokes majestic slightly wiggling on the ground, the shin of the moon laminating its semi-transparent body.
I let go of the wooden beam and exit the town. I slowly walk over to it trying to make it out. The closer and closer I get the more certain I start to get. By the time I get halfway from it, I can feel myself start speeding up.
I'm not sure if it's from excitement or relief that my life in a fantasy world won't just be reading a lot of books. But I just can stop myself from racing over to the slime as fast as I can.
Soon I'm in spitting distance of it and I get to do what I wanted since I've first seen one of these things. Sorry little buddy but I've wanted to do this for too long.
Lifting my left leg I use my momentum from running and convert it into my leg. Using all my force I use my leg to keck the giggly slime.
I feel a bit of resistance on my leg as I kick but I can feel it quickly get lifted off the ground and… Into the sky?!
My kick had been so hard that the slime that I had just kicked at full speed had risen almost 20 feet in the air. As I looked up it had just slowed and stopped moving up but instead stood in the air seemingly frozen.
Soon however realization hit me and the slime exploded into a million pieces filling the sky above me. It was almost beautiful as the moonlight reflected off the slime bits making for a beautiful sight.
I had just stood there as the slime bits feel breathing heavily. Too bad that soon something harder than a slime bit hit me.
"Ouch wtf?"
Looking at the object that had just hit me it was a bluish-green gem. It kinda reminded me of the one I had. It was much smaller than mine though and it looked much skinnier.
I guess I should probably keep this. Putting it in my pocket I take a quick look around.
…
There must have been other slimes at the time to see what I did because the slimes in the nearby area were seemingly running away from me. Or more like slowly jiggling away from me…
Am I some slime murderer now?
New Job, Slime Slayer acquired.
Ahh well, guess that answers that… Too bad, this is what ill probably going to be doing for a little while. You gata start somewhere I guess.
"Grinding here I come!"
