The Better Of The Siblings
I met this girl the other day, it was really freaky too, she had all these potions surrounding her and a firelight illuminating her face. Like I said, really freaky.
Not only was she scary but I was even more scared of having an awkward interaction with her. This whole learning a new language thing is really holding me back. Lucky it seems talking to her increases my progress exponentially.
I don't know if it was my non-understanding of the language or her just being wearied but she touched my hair and asked me really, really, creepy questions, like 'do you eat people?' like I was some monster. Just thinking about it made chills run down my back.
Other than that she ok, I mean she gave me some snacks and since I've been living off rations for the past few days I decided to stick around. She also hasn't handed me into the guards so, that's a good sign.
But now, for some god-forsaken reason, I'm sitting in the back of her shop waiting for someone to come and give me a "test".
I swear if she treats me like a lab animal again I will lose it.
It was nice getting some food and getting to understand the language better but I think im starting to lose my patients.
Y'know what, im just gonna go back home, they're probably gonna turn me into those guards from earlier.
But when I reach the counter-
Ding
"Ren~" Marissa calls for me as she enters the shop, presumably with the teacher.
That's the creepy girl from earlier. Although her appearance would say otherwise with her clean purple hair and beautiful face.
There standing next to Marissa is a weird-looking girl. She has bright orange hair and calico-looking ears and tails. As soon as her bright auburn eyes see me her ears perk up and her tail slows from the frantic wagging it was a second ago. And uhh, stares?
"Uh..hi?" I wave my hand a bit.
The calico hybrid must've been in a trance or something because it takes her a moment to even hear me.
"Oh, um, hi! Im Sara!" She waves a bit at me.
Ew.
Wait, not ew im just saying she's stuttering and, I hate that. But remember Ren, you have to be respectful! So I hold my hand out for her,
"Pleasure to meet you, Sara!"
I smile at her and she lights up and immediately grabs my hand with both of hers.
"Alright, now that pleasantries are over it's time for your test! Get ready, we're going into the slime field for the test." Marissa then looks over to me.
"And ren, get your cloak back on, we can't have people seeing those special hair and eyes of yours."
Instead of asking a thousand questions I just nod and head over to the back of the shop, where I was originally.
It's easier to get this over with than refuse and probably get turned into the guards. So I grab my cloak and we head out.
As we walk towards the "slime field" I can hear Sara and Marissa talking to each other about something exciting because their squeals are hurting my ears.
Were approaching the slime field and the more and more we get closer the more rural it is.
"Oh! Were hear! Sara, did you bring the thing?" Sara rolls her eyes and reaches into her bag.
Thing? Are they planning on using some weird instrument on me? Is that why they took me so far from the town?
"I mean, of course, im not that forgetful. I mean, I hope I don't come off like that." at the end there Sara gets a bit stuttery.
Whatever forget it cause shes holding some type of clear orb. Is this my test? A clear orb, seriously? I, ahem, expected something different.
"Alright," Marissa grabs the orb and turns to me.
"This is a mana infuser when you say just a few words while holding it, it shows you the color of the element your best at."
She hands me the orb.
"Now you probably already know mana and magic and all that."
I don't by the way.
"There are two different kinds of magic, dark magic, and light magic. People may say dark magic is bad, it's not, it just depends on what God granted your power. And both dark and light magic have the same elements."
Marissa takes a book out of her own satchel and starts to flip through it.
"Like there is dark fire and light fire. They have special effects for what God gave you and what power. And lastly, a power special effect can be affected by the person's soul. Like a person with a pure soul will have healing. Ah."
She lands on a page and lets the book down what looks like a chart? And Sara follows along and sits down next to Marissa.
Yup I got none of that maybe some prior knowledge might have helped me but for now ill just assume the wich and cosplayer are just crazy.
Then Sara speaks to me for the second time since we met.
"Take a few steps back and repeat after me, please" she smiles a bit as I do as told.
Marissa takes out her tiny notepad and stares at me.
"Oh divine" Sara leads the chant.
"Oh divine" as soon as I start speaking after Sara I can feel something in my head and chest being pulled and getting warm but nothing seems to happen to me physically.
Ehh I'll just assume it's only because Im imagining it or something. A lot of people will get fooled into this type of stuff because of "feeling weird".

The orb lights up with a blinding light that doesn't affect me but I can hear distant screams from the pair in front of me. This light is so beautiful, it's the purest white I've ever seen. But black cracks start forming.
The orb starts to shake in my hands as it cracks more and more.
BOOM
The most ear-shattering explosion fills my sights and hearing. I can't think about anything else before I hit something and blackout.

That was weird. Is that supposed to happen?

"Ren! You can't stay asleep forever!"
The yelling really gets me to wake up. I look over to my left and find, Sara, im guessing? It's the same calico cat, true and true but her eyes, shes glaring at me. Does Sara always yell like that? I barely know this girl.
I look to my right to find Marissa in her book reading something. But her eyes quickly catch my stare and puts her book down.
"Ren, your mana, it's a difficult topic."
Well no duh, I'm not from here, i don't have mana, magic or whatever!
"Finally figure out i cant 'do' magic?" i roll my eyes.
"Actually, you posses all magic types, so you can we just have to understand."
Huh, thats, a surprise. Me, magic?
