A Little Reunion

So it seems I'm stuck in Ren's little plan now. Crazy enough I'm actually a kinda big role in it. Of course, she didn't randomly think of it instead it came from this book she got. Or more accurately took from this old crazy guy.

I don't know all the details but basically, she just picked it up after the guy dropped it when he was escorted by the guards. For some reason, Ren felt it would be a good idea to see what was in it.

Crazy as it might sound from what Ren told me it might be possible to return home. The basic thing the book talks about is magic but more specifically magic teleportation.

Now some teleportation from a glance might seem like a neat little skill to pick up but it obviously has more uses than I first thought. For instance, if possible we might be able to teleport ourselves back to our world.

Of course, I don't really care if it's able to take me back home because I'm not going. Sure, getting some teli magic would be cool but I'm not going home.

There's two reasons why I decided to "help" Ren out with it tho. The first being to gain trust to hopefully learn how she got so strong. The second is so I can make sure Ren can go back home.

I don't feel like this type of world Is very fit for Ren, so it would be better if she went back to her boring old life. I do indeed care a little about her. She makes it quite hard though.

As for my part in the plan, I'm basically supposed to collect the materials they need and help Ren figure out any slang she doesn't understand. Just earlier I had to explain what magic was. Which is funny since this is basically what we have to use to get this to work.

After I talked to Ren, she filled me in on the plan and we decided to go out to the marketplace to pick up some things that were required. Or more accurately I decided to go back to sleep but got interrupted.

Ren and Marissa wanted me to go with them for some reason. Oh ya, Marissa I almost forgot to mention her. To keep it short she's the purple-haired girl that was sleeping by my bed. somehow Ren bumped into her and they started being friends.

Anyway, they practically forced me out of the house. This would be one of the few times I would go outside during the day. "Maybe you can get a tan," they said. I mean there not wrong I've always been kinda pail.

So now I'm about to walk out of the alleyways into the overly crowded town I hated so much. I can hear the sound of people getting louder and louder with every step I take.

I rip two posters with a face and a number under them. I also think it's bad to be out when me and Ren are basically criminals. For what? Running from some guards? Give me a break this place is way too strict.

As soon as we're about to leave the alleyways I and Ren put our hoods on at the same time. I'll admit being a fugitive is kinda cool. I'm not sure if it's more of a hassle though it's not like I'm out much anyway.

Once we finally get into the crowded road Ren and Marrissia lead the way to the market. Apparently, Ren still has some coins leftover and wants to use them to buy some things for the plan.

It seems she expects me to be getting her money more regularly now. No clue how I'm going to do that. The deal I made was only a one-time thing and I don't have a plan to do more. I guess I'll have to think of something.

Right now Ren and Marissa are effortlessly flowing through the crowd while I'm constantly bumping into people. How are they so good at this?! I feel like they forgot I was even here.

You know what? Whatever, I'm going to do my own thing. I always wanted to go to the library anyway so why not now? Last time it was locked so now I might be able to head inside.

After some struggling to find it turns out I was right and the door for the library was wide open with a person walking in and out every once and a while. You know what? Now that it's daytime I can really appreciate the design for this thing.

Compared to most It's definitely smaller than most as it has to fit in with the compact design of the city. Instead of having a big and extravagant type of looking it's more basic with only a few stairs leading up to the doors.

What's cool about it though is the inside because that's when I realize it actually has two stories with me being able to look up and see people walking around. Of course, seeing how it's a library there are books shelves everywhere.

There are even tables littered around for people to sit down and read. How considerate. Anyway sorry for being an architect for a second there I just felt appreciated the work that went into it.

Something seems a bit odd however so I walk over to one of the closer bookshelves and realize about half of the books appear missing. Looking at the other shelves it seems to be the same thing with some shelves being totally cleared.

What on earth is wrong with this town???

I decide to grab a book at random and flip through the pages. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some of the words and even some pages were entirely censored with a black mark hiding the words!

Ya, but why!?

I stand there for who knows how long. Long enough for me to realize there's a conversation right behind me at one of the tables. Now I'm not an eavesdropper but I think it would be harder not to.

The voices sound like a little girl and some guy maybe in his mid-20s.

"I didn't steal it I promise! I really bought it!"

"I just want to know when you got this Honey"

Huh, Mabey the little girl got caught stealing some candy or something. I know the feeling of getting caught with my hand in the cookie jar little girl. I'll pray for you. Well not really...

"That shouldn't matter what matters is mommy"

Wow, what did she steal? I guess my cookie analogy doesn't really fit.

"I guess you're right. So let's say you did buy it, how much was it?"

"2 silver," she says triumphantly

"2 silver" The older man repeats in a tired tone.

Wait hold on…

"Yup he might have seemed a little scary but he was very nice"

The man doesn't say anything so the little girl continues.

"And and I saw him kill them too."

"You did?" The man replies.

"Oh ya I left at night and I saw-"

"You what?!"

Wait a minute I think this is about me?! It's possible that the little girl right behind me might be the girl I gave the slime gem to. Oh, man.

Suddenly I feel the grip of the book I was holding become loose and the heavy book I was holding fumbles to the ground. The book hits the ground with a loud thud and I can hear the people in the near vicinity stop talking.

Oh, Grand, I'm supposed to have the least amount of attraction on me as possible, thanks right hand. I quickly decide to pick up the book but hear something behind me as I do so.

"Mister?"

Yup, that settles it. Nobody has ever called me mister except one person. From what I can only assume it's the little girl I sold the slime gem to. As I turn around I see the same pompous face I met in the middle of the night.

I'm pretty sure this is her.

"Oh this is perfect, father this is the man I sold it to."

The father looks right up at me from his seated position. He doesn't look that good to be honest. His eyes look as if they haven't closed in days and it looks like he hasn't shaven for a while either.

He also seems to not be in the best mood and now he's looking right at me. Ok, we're cool here, just chill out you're fine. I close my eyes and prepare myself.

"Is it true you sold it to her?"

I open my eyes and turn around.

"Indeed I did"

I walked over to the table where the little girl and the young man sat. By the time I sat down the library had continued as it had before. So our conversation, if serious, would be covered.

At the table, Im seated opposite from the man with the girl being seated next to both of us. I couldn't really tell because my hood was covering my eyes but I'm confident he was staring directly at me.

"Did you scam my daughter?" He says bluntly.

"Of course not" I reply quickly

The man then rummages through his pockets and pulls out something and tosses it over to me. I catch it mid-air and look at it. In my hand was the greenish-blue slime gem I had given to the girl.

"Prove it," He says bluntly one more time.

"Of course"

Hah, this guy thinks he's so smart huh? Well sure maybe you might have startled "him" but unlike "him" I actually know what I'm doing. Not exactly a plan more just simple common sense.

I pull back my sleeve to reveal my hand to the man turning it around so he can see the gem embedded in my hand. The man looks as if he's about to speak but I stop him and continue.

I take the gem he had given me and place it near my own. Not enough for it to be absorbed but enough to get a reaction. Which of course I make sure he is able to see as clear as ever.

There's a simple glow from both gems the closer they get to each other which should prove its legitimacy. I move the gem away from my own and cover it back with my sleeve. I then throw the slime gem back at the man.

The gem lands in his hand but not because he went to catch it. The man is too lost for words to do much. It was a tad risky doing that but I feel it was the fastest and most effective.

The girl, already being certain of my legitimacy, starts speaking.

"See, see I told you so! We can use it now, right? It's not a scam so it's safe!"

The man sits there for a moment until he says something quite surprising.

"2 silver was it? That's not enough…"

Hmm. It's not, is it? How interesting. If I felt so inclined I could most likely ring out over ten or around one-hundred times what "he" gave it away for. Their family would probably go broke at that point which he's most not likely a fan of.

In that case, I do have another Idea.

"I can tell you probably can't afford much more. Right?"

The man whispers under his breath. "Right"

"In that case, I have something else you can do."

With that, he gets out of his sad position and looks at me.

"What would that be?"

"It's simple really all I need you to do is spread around town there's a man selling "beast hearts" for whatever they can pay with."

The man suddenly stands up

"Is - is that all?"

"One last thing If you want to buy them from me you must order from sunset right before it gets dark and tell them to meet me right here"

I lean back in my seat as I finish my sentence awaiting the man's response.

"Of course-of course, I'll tell everyone I know."

"Just be careful about it. Ok?"

"Of course let's go, sweety"

The man grabs his little girl's hand and walks out of the place waving to me.

"Thanks, again mister!"

Welp, I'm happy that's settled. I doubt "he would have handled it so smoothly. I feared "he" could really mess it up. "He" should be fine now though I'm hoping this will settle things for "him" in the future.

Oh and hello again voices. Well I mean you haven't said anything yet but I can tell your there.

Watching.

Listening.

Anyway now's not a good time to talk either. Not like you like talking anyway. I'm on a time crunch and it's about to run out…

Speaking of, I guess time was shorter than I thought. Well, I'll see you next time. Maybe then we could have a real chat…

See ya.
