Chapter 1

Once there was a saintess who lived among the land with the people.

A maiden who had golden hair and eyes, red luscious lips, and a bright complexion. She looked like an angel that was sent from above. She was a beautiful maiden with a kind loving heart and immense abilities.

Everyone loved and adored her… except for those people who envied not just her beauty but also her powers. It was the only hindrance to her existence in the world because, in the end, she was cruelly killed by those humans who wanted to covet what was not theirs.

Yet, even if they have killed the woman, they couldn't gain her abilities. Disappointed with what they have done, they decided to just ravage and took advantage of her like a wild animal. Then, once they were done, they attached her to a stake and burned her... alive, breathing painfully.

Everyone cried that day because those people who adored her had no power over those people who had harmed her. Despite that, everyone… tried to avenge her by killing those filthy humans right before her burning body. Everyone was ready to die for her.

But in the middle of that brutal fight in front of the burning body of the saintess, light emerged straight into the dead woman and made everyone stop. Everyone looked horrified at the strange phenomenon that suddenly occurred.

"You have no shame and killed the only person who wanted to protect all of you." A voice echoed in the land which shook the ground enough for everyone to fall down.

"I curse this land and the humans who harmed her. Even their children and the children after them will be inflicted by my wrath because of what they have mercilessly done. May you all perish with all the pain that she has gained in this world." Then the voice vanished in the wind as well as the light that appeared. The only thing that was left was the stake that turned black. There was no body attached to it anymore nor ashes of the woman on the cold ground.

There was nothing...

It sent shivers down all their spine, especially those who have harmed her greatly, and right that instant, the humans who have harmed her got hit by a strange light. They know it was the curse that was said by the voice. Though, although those were the words that the voice has spoken, the people who were cursed got only confused, because instead of dying or having illness because of the curse, they were able to gain something that would favor them greatly.

Powers just like what the saintess had.

The saintess was able to control the four elements in the world. Earth, air, fire, and water. However, those people who were granted these powers can only manipulate one element and it depends on the user if his level would be higher or lower.

At first, the four people rejoiced from their powers and decided to build kingdoms that will only accommodate those who have abilities like them and those who have connections with them. They isolated the humans who did not possess anything and those who fought against them into the mountains. After that and in the following years, no one ever showed up as if they have vanished and stopped existing. No one had known what happened to them after all those years and even if someone tries to search for them out of curiosity, no one ever found them in the mountains.

Four kingdoms were created in the world. The Farrell Kingdom, the land of fire is ruled by the Belmont Family. The Ecravian Kingdom, the land of earth is ruled by the Sarton Family. The Hearnes Family rules the Acheron Kingdom, the land of air. The Elgarian Family rules the Wendilian Kingdom, the land of water.

So many years had already passed and the four kingdoms prospered greatly without any problems. All is well and everything was going according to their plans long until the time finally arrived. Each of the kings of the Kingdoms began to die one by one because of one particular thing. A strange mark had emerged in their bodies and completely made them wither and die helplessly in pain. It was the curse that the voice have warned them about.

They were granted powers but it is what will take their life in return.

From then on, everyone was mindful of their bodies especially the children of those kings. However, after years passed after the four late king's death, they thought that they were saved and the only one who was cursed was their fathers but, in the end, they were also killed by the same mark that appeared on their father's body.

The cycle continued to go on like that until centuries have already passed but they didn't stop marrying and kept on having offspring because they know that their power will die if they don't continue to do so. They were all greedy for power and that is what makes the curse doesn't come to an end. Because those who have gained them were unable to let go of them. Though, it was not only the reason why they weren't stopping from procreating. They have found a solution after so many years have passed.

The fifth king on his travel met a lady who had strange abilities. He decided to bring her to his kingdom and in the end, fell in love with her due to her beauty and kindness. He married her despite all of his opposing families because of such a horrible background. She was a slave and was just taken by him in the kingdom. Though, that didn't stop him. Their days were filled with happiness but darkness started to come when he found out that the kings from the three other kingdoms started to die one by one.

Fear has even more crept into him after a mark has finally appeared on his body. Yet, despite that, he has lived for such long years other than those kings. Even his older family has lived long and he later found out that it was because of one person, the lady who he has taken in has been keeping him alive. He found a mark on her body that is completely different from those who are dying which made him think that she was special and she was sent from above to stop the curse. He told everyone about it. They didn't think for long because they knew something was odd about her too.

From then on, a saintess was called once again.

Though that saintess life doesn't differ from the original one because once her husband found out about her abilities. He took advantage of that and so were the others. Long until she drained all of her powers as well as her life. After she died, everyone died too including those people who should have been dead by then if it were not for her.

Those families who were left thought that the saintess children will have the same powers as her, but they were wrong. They didn't have any abilities like their mothers which made everyone disappointed.

Year after year, every child born is checked to see the same mark as the previous saintess. Until today, the power is still in the world and they found out later on that only every 50 years, a saintess will be born with the same mark as the last saintess. This year, a saintess will be born once again. But as long as they still haven't found her. They only know one thing to prevent everyone from dying and that is when two individuals with immense power marry. They last for more than a couple of years unlike those who have died early because of their abilities.

This is why when children were brought into the world, their parents already know what ability their children possess, and by that, they will find a suitable partner for him or them so that they could live a long life. It had been like that since then and now, another child was born into the world.

However, this particular child unexpectedly killed her mother. Although she didn't mean it, the power that she had was so immense that it killed someone accidentally. When she was already brought out by the maid who attended to her mother and then, gave the baby to the father, he was surprised to sense nothing in the end.

No powers.

Nothing at all.

He decided to check every part of the baby's body to determine if she will be the next saintess but... there was nothing.

The man felt shivers down his spine knowing that this will be trouble if someone finds out about it. Because he knows that no one will dare to be paired with a woman with no powers. It will eventually lead to his daughter's demise. So, in the end, those people who were in the room were killed by the man in an instant, leaving the baby alone, covered in blood, and crying helplessly.

"I'm sorry." The man uttered carrying the baby in his arms.

"I will protect you." He said embracing the baby and then, kissed her forehead gently.
