There is finally hope

"It…..is?" Cain muttered to himself.

He fell off the dead abomination and looked at his hands. His little human hands were stained red.

Seeing this, Cain laughed inwardly, 'Hahahaha…...so, I can

kill abominations with this if the situation is right.'

He was talking about the existence of mutates. It balanced the scale of power between abominations and evolved humans.

Suddenly, as Cain was dwelling in the feeling of power, a sharp sting assaulted his mind. He felt something intruding on his personal space.

"Theo, watch out!"

It wasn't Cain that shouted but Mark.

As soon as he said that, a sharp beam of energy illuminated the surrounding. It was a spherical beam that moved at an extremely fast speed.

Just as it was about to blow up Theo's head, William jumped in front of him and took the full brunt of the attack.

*Bim!*

William rolled on the harsh ground for a while before he hit a nearby tree. His body stopped moving afterward.

Alexia rushed to his location and held his body, "Pa, are you okay?!"

She got no response from William. His body was as still as a cold lake.

"Wait, let me see if I can do something," offered Macie.

She saw blood on William's chest. With the help of Alexia, she removed William's top and placed her hand on his bare chest. There was a hole that went deep in his body. Luckily for him, his organs weren't affected by the attack.

Macie closed her eyes and her mutate did the work. Multiple red veins wormed their way into her body from William's body. They represented the injury and pain that William received.

That was her mutate gotten from her bloodline, [Healing Dove]!

For now, as long as she maintained physical contact with her target, she could take away his wounds. Although, she could only take away about 80% of the injury.

Another important detail was that she wasn't just taking away injuries. She was transferring them!

And to whom, exactly?

Well, it was herself!

She could only absorb the injuries. Of course, her mutate also granted her a monstrous healing rate which would give her a chance to survive from the wounds. However, the pain was real and couldn't be healed!

Macie screamed as she absorbed William's wound, "Ahhhh!"

Knowing that she wasn't exactly in the right location to do so, she covered her mouth and contained herself.

"Wake him up," said Macie.

The open wound in William's chest was begin to heal up. His still breath turned rugged but it was a sign that he was still alive.

In less than ten seconds, William's eyes opened. His [Regenerative Healing] kicked in, which helped him quickly recover from the injury.

The moment he opened his eyes, he trembled while looking behind the group and roaring, "Look out!"

The same bright light radiated from the sky as it caught the stare of everyone.

However, they weren't scared. This time the group was more prepared!

They swiftly lay on the ground as the beam wheezed past them.

Not having a good view, Theo asked, "Guys, can you see anything?"

"Uhh....I don't know but it came from far away," replied Mark.

"Shhh…...it is moving closer," warned Cain.

The group kept quiet and could finally feel the vibrations on the ground. Judging from its intensity, they could tell that the unknown enemy was an abomination…..one that could shoot beams of energy.

"We can't just wait for it to come. What should we do?!"

Theo whispered, "William is out of the fight. Alexia, Macie, Mark, protect him. The rest of us will focus on the abomination. It should be that difficult."

They had gained confidence from soundly defeating the previous abomination. Clearly, they didn't see any problem with fighting another one…..and frankly, Cain thought it should be a walk in the park too.

"However, we should be training. Hence, we will move efficiently. Cain and Alexia will be responsible for keeping it occupied while I and Lara will deal the damages. Is that okay?"

"Yes."

"I understand."

"Yes."

"Good…..and Mark, in case we need help, be on stand-by," ordered Theo.

Once he received the positive response of Mark, he and three others stood up to face the abomination.

Cain flexed his muscles as he moved closer to the large silhouette that appeared in view.

'My muscles are sore. I will tire myself out soon. Hmm, I should focus on restricting its movement. Good ol close combat is the only thing that can work,' thought Cain.

He put his gun and knife back into their holsters as he stared hard at the abomination that revealed itself a few feet apart from the four of them.

'Whew... Here we go again….[Zenith King]!' sighed Cain.

As soon as he activated his mutate, his feet danced in the air as he quickly reduced the distance between himself and the abomination.

*Fume!*

A sharp beam of energy shot from the abomination's forehead. Cain brilliantly flipped above it as he quickened his pace. He wasn't going to be deterred by such a slow attack.

Other beams kept aiming at Cain and Alexia, who unsurprisingly easily kept up with his insane speed.

The poor abomination raged like a wild beast as its attacks kept hitting empty air.

Before it knew him, the fast tiny human flew between its legs and kicked its crotch.

It roared fiercely!

...….

'Hmmmm…..how do I become more efficient?'

Cain had this particular thought as he kept dodging the physical attacks of the abominations. He and Alexia were doing a good job at that.

However, that was all. While he was granted the physical condition that could rival an abomination, Cain had nothing else to bring to the table.

That was why he and Alexia could only serve as bait. They didn't have a mutate that could deal real damage.

Cain ducked as a large hand swiped above him. He counterattacked with a series of fast punches to the thighs of the abomination.

Alexia took advantage of the situation by targeting its large body.

The combined force of the two brought the abomination to its knees which gave Theo and Lara the go-ahead.

They jumped down from two trees and garnered the power of ice and fire in their hand. When they touched the abomination, it felt the feeling of being burnt and frozen at the same time.

Soon, it succumbed to its injuries and died, realising a rotten smell to the environment.
