My name is Xia Xi, but I prefer to be called Aria. I'm a high schooler, or rather, I was until one fateful day turned my life around.
It was a regular day for Room 13 at Shougen High. Calvin was being admired by girls all over the classroom, Kia kept trying to push girls away from Calvin, and I was sitting in the corner all alone as usual. My class is really small to be truthful, just me, Calvin, Kia, Carnie, and James.
Calvin was known as one of the two "kings" of the school. His blond hair was always sparkling every morning in the sun. His deep blue eyes made you feel like you were just drowning in them. He was, as many girls at school said, perfect.
James is the class clown, but also Calvin's best friend. Those two were known as "the perfect kings of Shougen High." His hair was brownish-red and his chocolate brown eyes glimmered as he chatted with Calvin and the other girls.
Kia and Carnie were best friends and were "really pretty and kind."
Pshh. Yeah, right.
Kia and Carnie are were known as the queens of the school, but not because they were "kind". They always liked to bully people that were looked down on, like poor kids or really smart ones they called "nerds". Kia and Carnie both had the typical "popular bully" looks: blond wavy hair and sea blue eyes.
And then there's me. I'm normal and average, which is why Kia and Carnie don't target me often. Calvin was my childhood friend, so he and James would always stand up for me if I ever got in trouble. But of course, with the two kings protecting me, that would cause even more trouble. I was just average but really smart. I had short black hair with black eyes. My figure was also average.
But you can't always believe in what you see on the outside.
The 8 o'clock bell rang and the girls all scrambled to their classrooms, but our teacher was nowhere to be seen.
"Ha! I bet Ms. Stephanie is off crying about her ex-boyfriend," Kia scoffed.
Carnie giggled and added, "Not to mention Ms. Stephanie had to give back that engagement ring!"
"Stop teasing her. She's just trying to make a living," Calvin said as he sat down right next to me.
I sighed. Calvin on my left, James on my right. Boy, was I in trouble this time!
I opened my mouth to say something but stopped. Something was shining underneath my feet. Like really suspicious. I stood up in my chair so fast, it fell back and all 4 of them looked at me in surprise.
"What's wrong, Aira?" James asked, his golden eyes peering up at me.
I ignored his question as I got up towards the front of the room.
I looked right underneath our table. "Were those markings always there?"
James and Calvin jumped up and flipped over the table so we could get a better look.
"Maybe we shouldn't-" James said, reaching out toward the curious girl.
Kia touched the markings before looking up.
"-touch them." James finished.
Kia scoffed, but her face was red. "Should have said it earlier."
"You clearly interrupted me first!" He retorted.
"Guys-" I said, my eyes widening as I looked at the markings. They were glowing really brightly as they changed colors. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and well, you get the gist.
"Not now, Ai." James ignored me and started arguing with Kia.
"Guys-" I repeated, started to get worried. I'm surprised they couldn't see the light. It was like looking directly at the sun.
"I told you not now, Ai," James said.
"Guys, look at the floor!" I screamed. I was running out of patience and I was immensely scared.
They all stopped... and looked down. Just in time to see the bright light surround us.
Calvin's and James's faces were the last things I saw before I lost consciousness.
