CHAPTER NINE

Sam was still fazed by the emotions that were swerving inside him. He felt happy that his brother was alive but he felt betrayed that his Uncle lied to him and even ordered his assassination. Sam was filled with rage but also confused as to why he would want his own nephew dead……that’s if he knew.

Sam was a mess and he knew that the one person who could help him understand was the one person who has been MIA for the past three days. He had to talk to Connor no matter the cost but he couldn’t skip school. He didn’t want to attract attention to himself, or at least that’s what he kept telling himself was true. Deep down Sam was actually enjoying the school life and there was something about that Rose girl that made him tingly inside but he wouldn’t let himself give in to whatever it was that he was feeling. Sam was tired of playing the waiting game so he decided to look for Connor after school and make have a talk.

The school day was almost over when a special someone caught Sam’s eye as he was walking through the halls. Connor. After three days this is when he decided to show up. He was making Sam worried even without knowing it. Sam was worried that he might act differently around his newly founded brother so he put on a calf demeanour and walked over to Connor who was talking to some dude. It was still really weird for Sam knowing that he had a brother again but it was the good kind of weird. The closer he got the more the dude’s features come into view. Then like a rushing river the realization hit him, it was the boy from the cafeteria. As Sam was approaching, Connor turned around just in time to see him.

”Mick long time! Where have you been?”

Connor said.

“I could ask you the same question."

Sam’s voice came out more concerned than he should be even though he shouldn’t.

“Oh. I had some things to take care of so I couldn’t come to school.”

He could tell that there was more to the story than Connor was letting him know but he didn’t push it knowing that if he did Connor might become suspicious to why he was asking so many questions.

“And you are……?”

Sam was now looking at the boy who was talking to Connor just a few seconds prior to his arrival.

“Jake. Don’t you remember me from the cafeteria?”

Jake . So that’s what his name was.

“Sorry but no.”

Jakes face dropped but he quickly put on a smile to mask his clear disappointment.

“Mick, Mick!”

someone yelled from behind him. He turned around so quickly he almost bumped into the person to whom the voice belonged.

“Wow that was close. We have to stop meeting like this.”

It was Rose and she had on the same smile that made Sam feel fuzzy inside.

“Yes. We really do.”

Sam’s lips were starting to tug upwards into a smile and no matter how hard he tried to stop himself he couldn’t fight it.

“I just wanted to apologise for the other day. So if your up to it I was wondering if you wanted to get some dinner Friday night.”

Dinner. With her. Friday night.

Sam was starting to get into a state of panic but why? Could it be possible that the cage of emotions that Connor had unlocked also contained an emotion that caused Sam to feel a certain feeling that he had locked away when his parents died. Could it be that he was starting to feel the emotion of which his Uncle had wared him about?

“Yes, Friday night sounds great.”

A small part of Sam started to embrace the feeling that Rose gave him but a larger part of him still refrained from feeling such a feeling because to him it was still a new and perplexing thing after a long time of not letting himself feel.

They exchanged their numbers and just before Ross left she flashed her smile which made the fuzzy feeling inside Sam to reignite. Sam was sure that if Rose kept flashing her smile his inside's would explode due to all the fuzziness he was feeling, but he was starting to warm up to the thought and didn't think it as absurd as he would have a few months ago.

When Sam turned around he was met with a grinning Connor and Jake.

“What?”

Sam asked unamused.

“It seems like Mick has a date Friday night.”

Jake said in a kind off mocking voice.

“No it’s just dinner with a friend to make up for bumping into me. Nothing else.”

Even he didn’t believe what he was saying he had to believe it for the sake of his mission even if Rose did give off not so subtle hints about their 'dinner'.

He had to finish his mission but before that happens he had to talk to Connor and make sure that he wasn’t hiding anything from him and he knew that wasn't going to be easy.

The day progressed as usual but Sam had this moody cloud hovering over him the whole day and some teachers even asked him about it because according to them he was 'more moodier', as if that was even possible.

Sam was counting the seconds until the end of school and when the bell rang he rushed out of class only to come face-to-face with the person who he believed was dead. His dead brother. Connor.
