When Lee finished her conversation with her father, she couldn't stay in the mansion any longer. She found herself walking involuntarily leaving the mansion.
Lee realized she had come back home. The place was unbelievably quiet and she didn't see any of the nosy aunties in the neighborhood. Those women sat around the place gossiping and she was used to seeing them. That was the only thing she realized had changed.
After a week of not cleaning, the house was dusty so she began cleaning after entering. Being busy was also another way to relieve one's stress. Lee hadn't even shed a tear yet.
The house was clean minutes later and Lee rested on the chair. She started thinking about Lynn. Would Lynn wonder where she went? Should she have talked to Lynn first before leaving?
"Ring ring,"her phone sounded.
She removed it from her pocket and saw an unknown number. Lee didn't want to pick because it could be Ze Li. Or even Lynn.
The person kept on calling consistently so she picked the call.
"Who is this?" she asked.
"Miss Lee, this is Mai, I work at the mansion," the voice sounded inconsistent because Mai was breathing heavily and sounded panicked.
Lee immediately sensed that something could have gone wrong. It should have to do with Lynn because she always saw Mai with Lynn. They were close.
"What is happening?" she asked immediately.
"Miss please, meet me at the address I am going to message immediately, something is wrong with Madam," Mai spoke. She was certain that Lee would help. Mai didn't talk much because she lacked the strength.
"I will be there," Lee said after thinking. She knew she could trust Mai on the account of being Lynn's friend.
She remembered her conversation with her father. What if he hurt Lynn because she refused to listen to him.
She rushed and put on a jacket and was ready to leave when she saw Daisy standing outside, ready to knock.
"Lee,wait what is wrong?" Daisy's smile as she saw Lee opening the door faded seeing Lee panic. Daisy had a regular routine these days of coming over to see if Lee came back.
" I am going somewhere now," Lee said.
"Let me drive you there," Daisy offered, she could take Lee there faster.
Lee had no choice but to enter. She didn't realize she was shaking and nearly crying.
Mai was at a clinic with Lynn who had fainted. She was here to make sure Lynn got a bit of first aid. Lynn's condition was serious but it wasn't safe to take her to the hospital because Ze Li or any members of the Zang Family could easily track her down. This clinic wasn't the best option too so Mai had called Lee to come and help. She had nowhere else to take Lynn and she was a suspect if Lynn went missing because she was close to her.
Mai washed her hands several times but she got scared each time the water was stained red due to the blood. Her clothes were also red. The situation was nauseating. She prayed for Lee to come faster.
When Lee reached the clinic, she immediately opened the car door and got out. Daisy got even more worried but parked her car safely and followed Lee inside.
Lee was so scared when she saw the stain on Mai's dress.
"Where is Lynn?" she asked.
She is inside but miss, she needs a hospital.
" How dare you, what makes you decide on your own?" Lee asked frustrated. She could no longer contain her anger. Lynn was critical but Mai brought her to a clinic! It sounded absurd.
Mai felt uncomfortable to go into details with Daisy around as she was a stranger.
But since Lee trusted her, a stranger wasn't that bad.
" Miss, your father will take her away if she was taken to a hospital," Mai spoke.
Lee started feeling scared. She really didn't want to believe Ze Li did this.
Mai started crying as she talked.
Lynn had been ill for about two days. During these days, Ze Li hadn't visited yet he was around. Mai even attempted to boldly ask for a doctor to be brought but Ze Li behaved like she was talking to air.
She had tried to go get a doctor on her own. When she came back, Ze Li was leaving his room and he looked angry. It seemed off that he had visited today, after all that time. His facial expression scared Mai.
Mai rushed inside and found Lynn lying down, it looked like she had fallen. She was bleeding from her head and it looked like she had coughed blood too because it was oozing out of her mouth. Mai saw certain pink swellings on her face and her wrist looked like it was pressed hard. Mai didn't want to assume anything but it looked like Ze Li had beaten Lynn since she had seen him leaving the room. Lynn was already unwell so this had worsened her condition. Ze Li had done everything so far but not violence.
Lee and Daisy were listening attentively to Mai and they were both shocked.
"Let me arrange for her to be sent to a hospital," Daisy said.
She saw Lee trying to refuse so she explained how serious it could get. Lynn may even die.
After the procedure at the clinic was done, they took Lynn to the hospital.
Mai was supporting Lynn on her lap while Lee and Daisy sat in front.
Lee had never felt so helpless before. She just realized that she can't get justice for Lynn on her own. The money she had may not even be able to pay the medical bills so she could only use Fanny's.
She couldn't even guarantee that she could get Ze Li arrested. The Zang family was too wealthy and they must have connections.
Daisy had called her brother and asked him to prepare to treat a certain patient.
Silver Corp. had many hospitals under it and her brother worked at one of them in Sunset City. He was also one of the best doctors in the city.
She was really shocked to find out Lee had a stepmother. Daisy would have investigated Lee's life but she didn't want to overstep her boundaries. She had assumed all along that Lee was an orphan.
Now, hearing and seeing Lynn's current condition, she hated Lee's father even without meeting him. How could he do that to his wife?
The question was, who is Lee's mother. Was her father also abusive to them?
A few hours later, Lynn was in the operating room being worked on. Mai and Lee waited outside the room while Daisy was outside making phone calls and arrangements for Lynn.
She assured the two that Lynn would be okay and she was going to cater for the hospital bills.
So for the meantime, Lee and Mai hoped for the best.
