Lynn's surgery had taken too long. The longer it took, the more tense Mai and Lee became. They sat waiting for the results.
The two even feared that Ze Li might suddenly show up. Mai would be in trouble and Lee would be forced to go back home.
Mai's phone rang, " Hello,"she said. It was her sister Rie who called.
"What is wrong with you?" Rie asked. Mai sounded different.
"Nothing is wrong sister," Mai said as she stood up and left the waiting area. She didn't want anybody hear her conversation with her sister in case they spoke of a secret.
Rie was chewing something and said,"What is going on there, why aren't you calling to update me?"
Mai wasn't really in the mood to have such conversations given Lynn's current condition." Nothing has changed yet sister."
"Let me hope you are keeping an eye on that woman," Rie reminded.
"I am sister, I have to get going now," Mai spoke.
"Why are you brushing me off, Mai, what have you done?" Rie said furiously. She always knew Mai had too much pity. The last time they talked Mai even suggested giving up on the plan.
Mai immediately hung up the phone call. She started crying. Mai hated whenever Rie started shouting at her.
Rie was six years older than Mai. They had grown up with under the care of an alcoholic mother.
At first, they were rich. Their father gave them whatever they needed and they were happy. That was not until their father died and they found out he had another family and that were the legitimate ones.
That was what made their mother alcoholic and Rie became cynical and selfish. Their mother often physically abused her children because they reminded her of her late husband/partner.
As the two girls grew, the situation at home wasn't getting any better. Mai remembers that Rie had stopped going to school due to lack of money and even she herself was barely hanging on.
The worst came to the worst when dangerous people came home to threaten them since their mother owed them. Their mother had even started gambling.
Mai has always been grateful because Rie saved her from that life. Rie took Mai with her and they both left home together.
To what extent should gratefulness go to.
There's always that part of you that owes something to the one you are grateful to for something. The problem is, some of them use this to tie us down.
Rie sent Mai to school and provided for her needs, clothes, medicine and shelter.
They even went together when Rie was to work at Ze Li's home as Lynn's caretaker.
Rie suggested the plan of trapping Ze Li, their rich boss through a pregnancy or an affair. Mai didn't want to get involved.
They both knew what happened to their family because of their late father. No woman deserved to experience what their mother went through, the shame, pain from ignorance and hatred because of the lies. Even though their mother wasn't the legal wife, she always thought she was. It surprised her that Rie could come up with such an idea.
That day when Mai drugged Ze Li's tea under her sister's instructions, she will never forget it.It was the day that completely changed her life.
Mai wanted to finish studying and help Rie afterwards but her sister didn't appreciate the idea and went on with her easy money plan. She had no choice but follow.
At, nineteen, Mai was pregnant with Prince. She pretended not to see Rie's accusing looks. Her sister blamed her when the plan failed and even insinuated several times that Mai ruined everything on purpose.
Their plan took an unexpected turn when Mai woke up unconscious the next morning so she didn't really know what happened. The schemer had been schemed against at their own game.
This too surely didn't kill the planner in her sister. Rie brought up the plan of Mai going back to the mansion after she went back.
Ze Li didn't know they were sisters so Rie admitted to doing everything and said she was the mother of his child.
Her son didn't even know her. She only saw his pictures and watched him from a far whenever she followed Rie.
This was because children weren't good at keeping secrets so Rie was afraid the truth would slip.
Rie planned everything and gave orders on how to do what.
This was all because Mai ought to be grateful to her.
Mai's future, child, conscience and piece of mind were all a payment for Rie did for her before.
Mai was tired of everything. How would Lynn react if she ever got to know the truth?
Would Lynn understand?
Surely Lynn was always kind and merciful but not when it came to Ze Li. Lynn's reasoning was at it's lowest when it came to him.
But, who could blame her?
In the beginning, Mai didn't want to be involved in the plan but later on, she went back to the mansion for a reason. She pretended to be Lynn's friend to know her secrets and weaknesses so that they can get rid of her and replace her place in Ze Li's life.
At that time, Mai was purely being driven by hatred. She wanted to get revenge because she envied the life Lynn had.
Mai felt bad to see Lynn happy while she lived every single day hoping to see her child a little longer.
She only realised later on that her and Lynn were the same.
In fact, Lynn was even worse than her. A pure and kind lady like her was surrounded by bad people.
Lynn didn't stop trying to make everybody love her even when she hadn't done anything.
She also stayed with Ze Li despite how badly he treated her.
Mai went to a bathroom and washed her face to remove the tears and the redness on her face.
She went back to the waiting area when she was done.
Meanwhile, Daisy had received shocking news. She was thinking of a way to convey it all to Lee who was anticipating Lynn's successful operation.
