Chapter 38: On the run.

I was surprised at how long it took Stefan to open the door. I never forgot to notice how sad he looked when he came in.

"Nellie, we have to get out of here immediately." He said, and started putting on his gold wrist watch. I was confused at the moment, why would he come in here and ask me to start packing?.

I hesitated for a while. He stopped and turned.

"I know you've got many questions to ask, but darling..this is not the right time, I'll explain everything when we get out of here." He didn't let me say another word, he dragged me up and we started leaving the room together.

He was too quick to leave, so he led me to his car and drove off. No one spoke to each other, just the tiny voice coming from the radio. He never ceases a chance to look at me, knowing fully well that there was a lot going through my head.

For the fact that I began living because I met him. If he didn't meet me in school, if I didn't fall for him, if he didn't kidnap me, there were many if's that I'd like to lose count of.

Who knows, I'd be out of trouble, I would live my life with my family, dad, mom, sister even when she was a bitch and my friends with Jake, by now I might have found love with Jake. I don't know if to say his coming into my life was actually for good or bad but I'll take both. He came and made me feel loved, too bad it came with so many disasters.

"Why?." I heard him ask. I raised my brows, "Why what?." I asked back.

"Why are you looking at me?."

Was I?.

"I wasn't, Stefan. I'm just...thinking." I told him and faced the window. "Ooh okay. Would you like to share?." He asked again. I didn't know what to answer him so I kept silent. He was focused back on driving while silence was beginning to settle back in the car. Not until a thought began to creep into my mind. I cleared my throat, "Did you kill Jacobi?." He looked at me.

"No. I didn't." He replied, "What did you do to him?." I demanded.

"I knocked him off. Jacobi was stupid. And he was starved off his feed weeks ago by the king, so I guess that's why he behaved that way. He saw that Jake was away, the king and queen were on a trip, he used that as an advantage to do what he did."

"The way he looked at me.." I started but stopped when I noticed the car wasn't moving anymore. "What is it?." I asked him. His hand released on the sterling and he spun his head to me.

"I'm sorry, we can't continue this journey." He said and it got me perplexed, "What do you mean?."

I followed his gaze to the fuel gauge and I sighed.

"You're foolish, Stefan. Why didn't you check this before we started moving out of the damn motel?," I yelled and angrily climbed down, jamming the door behind. "Oh shut up!. Don't blame me for this, I had to protect us, you particularly."

"That didn't grant you to lose the only sense left in your goddamn brain, Mr Stefan." I insulted and started walking ahead of him.

I could feel him running after me." Where are you going?." He questioned.

"Well, I got to remember this particular road to my mom's house, unlike you." I replied sarcastically.

He dragged me back and with force, I ended up hitting my head on his wide chest. I could hear his heart thump-thumping. I raised my face and swallowed hard at the way he was looking at me.

"Mate, you do not have to be sarcastic about it. Moreover, we can't stay anywhere because the vampires and the dark witches are going after you. They were using your scent to track us down, and as you have your powers back, every other being out there is alerted and they seem to trend behind us too."

"Well, I'm sure about my mother's place. It is a place hidden in the woods and people can't go anytime they like because it is a forbidden territory. A border, not everyone likes to cross." I grabbed his hand and we started running.

As we walked through the woods, I was getting tired because of how long we walked to this place, the sun had gone down and night was beginning to fall into place. My legs were aching and I do not think Stefan was being affected. He noticed how slow I had walked on and stopped, I was breathing heavily.

"Stefan, I thought you had a speedy ability. Why are you trying to punish me for nothing?." I asked, clutching my heart, and catching some breath. He smiled and I almost hit him for thinking this is the right time to smile. "Dear, I do not have the ability to teleport, only Aaron has it. "

I could remember the day I was brought in to them, it was Aaron that picked me up and teleported me to Stefan's room. Before I could say Jack, he squatted down in front of me and asked me to climb on.

"Don't stand there looking at me, climb on and we'll be there in no time."

"Nellie, wake up." I heard a cool voice in my sleep and I grumbled out. "Elena." A voice shouted me out of my sleep and I opened my eyes. I found out that I must have fallen asleep on Stefan's back but when I looked, there were few men standing in front of us with guns pointed at me and Stefan. I quickly climbed down and clung to Stefan for safety.

"Guys, she's awake now. Take me and let her go." My eyes grew wide when he said that. "What do you mean, Stefan?."
