Knowing each other

Kara closed his eyes, and started to focus. He envisioned a world without light or sound. Exactly, he imagined a world of darkness. It only took a moment, as when he opened his eyes, he saw black ethereal shadows started to circulate around him.

After a second, he was amazed. He never thought he could do something like enter his mind, but since getting that book, he had been able to do strange things. Looking around, the place he was standing on was the same as May had told him as somewhere he could always contact her.

'An empty, silent, and dark place,' he grinned.

After seeing what happened earlier when he saw May whom he thought could only speak in his mind when it was not dark and silent, Kara confirmed his theory.

At first, he thought he could only meet May at a literally dark and silent place exactly identical to the likes of the Forest of the Darn. But that was not exactly right.

It appeared that Kara could also meet May in his mind! When he first discovered the book's secret, all those things happened in his mind!

Soon, Kara could feel practically everything in the empty dark soundless space as if it was his own body. It was not the same as usual as here there was a female figure standing in front of her. The female figure was naturally May.

She blinked her eyes her black thick eyelashes flickered for a second, as she looked at Kara. After that, she bit her lips softly and opened her mouth, and smiled, "Your mind is pretty intriguing. How could it be that it is exactly what I always wanted…empty, silent, and dark."

"Huh?" Kara stared at her with no expression.

But Empty? Silent? Dark? It was true. His mind was exactly like that. There was nothing. No ambition. No purpose. No fear.

"Interesting, right? I can now understand you," May said smiling with an aura of innocence.

"Oh?"

Seeing Kara's curious expression, May imagined a wooden chair and it appeared. She sat on it. Before Kara knew it, there was also a wooden chair behind him.

"We now share this mind, so we have authority to do anything we want. I mean anything. How about we do something sexy?" She asked.

Kara ignored her petty comments as he sat on the chair, making May smile again. It was strange. He caught himself looking at May when since she appeared and the way she smiled captured his attention.

Looking at Kara, she started to talk.

"You want to be free so went out of the clan. You had no ambitions or dreams so you went out to the world. You cannot relate to the shadows and cannot share their dark passion so you came out. You live in a soundless, lightless and empty world. How interesting, I might actually fall for you in the near future."

Hearing her talk, Kara started to grin. After a few seconds, it turned to a psycho-like smirk. He couldn't help it.

May spoke again, looking at him as if she could see his soul, "I am curious about you. Why are you so calm when you found out I am going to exist as a part of you? It was very unnatural. Aren't you afraid? Fear drives a lot of emotions, but you are different, I pity you but also envy you."

"…"

Kara was smirking madly looking at May with his crimson eyes shining like fresh blood. Their eyes had crossed for a lot of times, and currently May was even staring at him with eyes Kara had never seen looked at him so close. But she was unaffected despite her sharing the same blood as him.

Perhaps because she was an ancestor or an ancient shadow or so she called?

"You have no desires." She declared softly, "I was confused, and that's when I saw you take that necklace from the rogue mage. Anyone who could have seen that would have thought you were filled with greed, but you were not. You are empty, so you wanted to fill yourself with something, hoping you could awaken anything."

Kara kept the same expression on his face but calmed it a little.

"So you have me figured out?" Kara asked.

"Mm." May smiled innocently.

Once she got her answer, he gazedat the empty dark silent place, "This place...I like it. I could probably live here for eternity. I'm immortal after all."

"...."

"You know back in the past I wanted to live with people. Building a family and having friends, I found them interesting. But you are also so interesting. You escaped out of the clan hoping you would awaken something in you. You unlocked the book's secret, and awakened me. Having someone other than you in your own mind was strange, but you thought maybe something that strange would not make you feel empty. But you still are, and you stole that magic item to try to fill yourself. It's strange, people keeps on chasing they could not do."

Kara fixed his facial expression which were unnecessary already and put on a smile. It was the smile he always used to interact with others. It looked natural. But it always bothered Kara why he was even thinking if it was natural or something if he used it.

Sigh.

"That's right. I am empty. I live in a lightless world with no sound." There was a little pause as Kara looked at May, "You. You are the same as me. I don't know why but want to live in an empty, soundless, dark space. That was exactly why you created the Forest of the Darn, right?"

"Yeah." May replied.

She once created the Forest of the Darn live alone. It was dark, empty, and silent. It was perfect. No light could enter it, and no sound could reach her. That was the case until a certain woman blessed by the miracle of the Great Gods reached her. Their sole purpose was to get what brought her the ability to create a world of silent darkness. The domain-creator magic item she has.

"How many times had passed since then? But until now, there are still people who want this?" She grabbed the dark pearl magic item from her pocket, and looked at it.

She cannot understand.

"Well, I could understand. A magic item capable of something that powerful exist and now it is out in the open. People are naturally going for it. It is just nature." Kara said.

After that, Kara narrowed his gaze and glared at the dark pearl in May's hands.

"I don't care about any items in this world in the first place or any entities. I don't fear no one anymore even myself, so you could take hold of that forever." Kara said.

May was baffled. Maybe because Kara was so serious, but a strange wave of affection just swept her and changed her expression.

"Thank you." She said, as her eyes moist a little, "I guess I stay in your mind until your time to go would go."

Just then, Kara returned to the real world again. The sight of the holy knights of Williamson Theocracy and Knight Faller kneeling in pain before Astrid came into sight and the sobs of the young women entered his ears.

"Sigh, the church, huh?" he muttered silently.

"Are you going to fight them?" Chris whispered to his side.

"No, something is going to fight them. I'm going to end this quick so you could go find your family too." Kara replied.

In reality, he still did not know why Chris wanted to find his family when they might even know him. It was bizzare to him, however when he heard May just now, it made him think how people were just like that. Them? They were the different ones.

Ceasing the talk with Chris, Kara's crimson eyes flashed a little meaning he activated his flow of magic.  Then he rolled three dark purple beads in his palms.

'Summon, three wolves.'

As soon as Kara said that inwardly, three dark purple wolves with sabretooth-like fangs appeared before his feet. But they were all invisible and could not be sensed by anything or anyone. That was the beauty of these boys.

'Now, let's see the faces of these arrogant holy knights break into horror.'
