The sun rises slowly over the horizon, casting a fiery red glow across the room despite the sky being clear. The summer festival is today. And I slept in.
I’m not sure what time Kaylum came in last night, but he’s already up and dressed for the day.
“Good morning,” he greets me with a smile as I wake up. Why does he have to be in my face?
“Morning,” I reply slowly, rolling over for some space.
“Enjoying your sleep in?” His voice sends an icy shiver down my spine.
“Are you feeling alright?”
“Never better.”
my nail scrapes my skin slightly as I tuck my hair behind my ear.
“You never smile. Something’s up.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Very convincing, but not my business. Usually I would keep asking until he broke, but I feel unbalanced inside. That’s not clear, I know, but I can’t put my finger on the actual word I need.
‘Maybe a shower will settle me,’ I think to myself as I enter the bathroom to wash the sleep from my eyes.
