Chapter 9

I can’t shake the feeling of unease, even late into the afternoon. The way Kaylum talked about his spirit guide, I can’t help but think of the spirit from the bone pit. Could it have been Carlos? If it was, why would he come to me instead of directly to his actual charge? He wouldn’t even tell me his name. I don’t like it. If Kaylum found out, I don’t think he’d talk to me for a while. Like the time I accidentally used his sketchbook for a school project, but worse.

He won’t hate me; just take some time alone to process. Hopefully.

“Ellie.”

“Hmm?” I look up as my teacher takes a seat on the grass beside me.

“What’s on your mind?”

I hesitate before answering.

“Is it possible for a spirit guide to leave a charge to work with someone else?”

Anka raises her eyebrow at me in confusion. “Why you say that?”

“Just curious,” I shrug.

“Well, I’ve never heard of it. Although, I suppose it could happen.”

“Do you have any spirit guides?”
