Decision making

Romão

I woke up before the rooster crowed, no one had gotten up yet. I went to the stable, took my Ferrari horse and went to the windmill, which was on a mountain a little way from the farm. I needed to be alone with my buds and admire the landscape. The sunset from up here was spectacular! I would like to come here to think or make a decision. This business of being heir to anything kept me up all night. I didn't even talk to Mom about it, she never told me about this guy, maybe she has her reasons and I didn't want to pressure her to tell me.

The sun started to appear in the blue sky, it didn't even look like it rained last night. If not for the soil that was still wet, this would have gone unnoticed. Sunbeams began to light up the farm. From a distance, you could see the plantation, the orchard and a piece of the vegetable garden. I couldn't accept that the farm was taken from us, maybe I could use the money from that inheritance, so that I could pay off the debt that Dad's partner made and save the farm.

I felt the sun warm my skin, day was breaking and I needed to start my tasks. I got on my Ferrari horse and went back to the farm to have my breakfast and start the day. I tied my horse to the stump near the house and went straight to the kitchen. Today is Saturday, the workers will only come after midday.

"Did you see who's there?" said Martha.

"No, who?" I asked curiously.

"That lawyer, Robson."

Robson was dad's lawyer, he was the one who arranged for Geraldo to be dad's partner.

"What is this son of a bitch doing here?"

"I don't know, he poked your mom and dad in the office."

"Ah, but I'll clear this story up."

I got up "pissed off", it was because of this guy that we are about to lose the farm. I walked into the office and grabbed him by the collar.

"Look here, you son of a bitch, we don't need you anymore, let's solve the farm's problems without your help, because so far you've just screwed up."

"Calm down, Romao! What happened wasn't my fault, Geraldo tricked your father and made him sign blank sheets, to make the loan and put the responsibility on your father's back."

"It's true, son. It was my fault! I shouldn't have signed anything," Dad said regretfully.

"But where were you that didn't stop daddy from doing that? That's your job."

“I'm not your sole attorney, I have other clients and that's why I'm here.” I let go of his collar and looked confused.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Francisco Nogueira Ferraz, he was one of my clients." The guy they say is my dad. "I've worked for your father for a while, actually I just started working for your father because I worked for Ishmael at the warehouse."

"Like this?" Mom asked confused.

"I've known your husband since I was a child. I graduated in Law and Ismael inherited the farm from his father, Mr. Joaquim. Ismael put me to work with him in the warehouse, as soon as I graduated, to help him with the bureaucratic part. I don't know how, but Francisco found out that I worked for Ismael and called me to work with him too. This boosted my career. I work at FazenTéc, an agricultural machinery factory, in which the father of your child is one of the partners.

"I only have one father and his name is Ishmael."

"I understand, but we cannot ignore that you are the sole heir of Francisco Nogueira Ferraz and have the right to manage the factory, along with the heirs of your father's partner."

"And why am I now finding out about this guy who didn't want to know about me?"

"I only knew you were Francisco's son a few months ago, when he asked me to draw up your will. He asked me not to tell you anything." I looked at Mom and she lowered her head, what did this guy do to her when they were little? "You must come with me to the city and take possession of your inheritance."

"First I need to talk to Mom."

"As you wish." Robson left the office, leaving me alone with Mom and Dad.

"What do you think?"

"I think it's the opportunity we need to pay off the farm's debts and kick Geraldo's ass."

“I also thought the same thing earlier today. But I didn't want to use this guy's money, you're my dad, you raised me.” Dad smiled proudly and hugged me.

“I know, my son. We'll just do what you think is right, I won't force you to do anything, we can find another way to save the farm, but we'll do it together,” Dad said.

I looked at Mom, who remained silent.

"Is that okay with you, Mom?"

She looked at me and Dad, looking a little lost.

"Whatever you decide is fine with me."

"I want to know if it's okay, using money from a guy who hurt you."

“He may not have been an idiot, but now his money can be of some use. Stay calm! It's your inheritance, do what's best for the farm.” I walked around the desk to the office and gave this wonderful woman a hug.

She squeezed me tightly as if she didn't want to let go of me anymore, I looked at her and kissed her forehead. I don't want to be selfish, the farm is going through difficulties and this inheritance came at a good time.

"Let's do it, I'll see how this company is doing, if I see it's not for me, I give up and like Dad said, we'll find another way to save the farm." She smiled at me and kissed my cheek.

"It's fine by me!" Dad said and hugged us tightly.

"Well, I'll help Marta set the table for breakfast, you and Robson have a lot to talk about," Mom said, leaving the office.

We left immediately and went to the kitchen, we called Robson to join us. We had coffee and talked about the will. I avoided asking anything about my biological father as much as possible so I wouldn't have to upset my mother.

"You said I'm going to run the company with two other people, I hope those people know how to run a company, because I have no idea what to do."

"Don't worry, they know and know the company very well, they practically grew up watching their father work."

"They are sisters?" Dad asked curiously.

"Yes, Alexia and Patricia Bitencourt are sisters on their father's side, even Patricia is your cousin."

"Wow! Do I have a cousin?" I said excited to hear this news.

My parents were only children, the news that I had a blood relative and that he was going to run this company with me was good business.

"Does she know about my son?" Mom asked apprehensively.

“Not yet, the father's funeral will be this afternoon and the will will be opened after the funeral in one of the company's meeting rooms. And by the way, I have to hit the road to get there in time for the reading of the will.” He stood up and turned to me. “I'd like you to join me on Monday to see the company and introduce you to your future partners. Here's my address. "He handed me a card with his cell number and home address.

"Of course! I'll be there."
