Nothing

Alexia

The funeral was quick, it was amazing how after a person died, they always got well. There were no complaints from any of the directors present. The coffin was sealed, because the car caught fire when it fell on the mountain, at least my father fulfilled his desire to be cremated, a pity he was in life. What a shameful thought! People would come up to me saying that my dad was a great boss. I had my doubts when I took over the company, due to your trip, which resulted in this tragedy. I could see how incompetent the directors around him were. Either my dad was really nice or he was blind.

Patricia's uncle's funeral was simultaneous with our father's, but the only people present were my sister and her mother. I didn't even bother going to Patricia's uncle's wake if I didn't want him near me in life, much less in his death. I thought that, as her uncle never had a family, Patricia was quite capable of inheriting his part in society, the two of us would manage the company together...

When the will was read, there were all six of the company's lawyers, my sister, my sister's mother, Antônio, who I don't know why was here, besides Conrado and me. As soon as Robson opened the envelope containing my father's will, the door to the conference room opened.

"Wait!" You can't open your will without my presence." Nonsense! As this woman was inconvenient, my mother didn't show up at home, she didn't attend the funeral, now she entered the room as if she were the most important person in the meeting, dressed in black , with sunglasses on her face."What does this woman want here?"She pointed at Patricia's mother.

“She came to the will reading, just like you. After all, Patricia is his daughter."

"That little bastard, she doesn't deserve what belongs to my daughter."

"Mom, that's enough! If you don't stop the insults, I'll kick you out."

"You wouldn't do that to your mother?"

"You bet."

Finally, she was silent and Robson began to read the will.

"Before I read Roberto's will, I'm going to read Francisco's." He began to read the will for the bureaucratic part and then revealed who would take over Francisco's part in the company. "I leave all my assets, as well as my share of the company, to my only heir, whose name will be revealed once I accept to be part of this company."

"I didn't know my uncle had a child," said Patricia.

I was also shocked by this revelation, I never thought that a man like Francisco could ever have had a relationship with anyone.

“I had no idea this nephew existed,” said Alessandra, Patricia's mother.

And I, who thought Patricia would inherit her uncle's inheritance and together we would run the company.

"Looks like you didn't mean anything to Francisco, he didn't leave you a penny," my mother said, a smile of victory plastered on her face.

"Shut up! Francisco may have been selfish and left them nothing, but I'm sure my father didn't." My mom's smile faded, she knew full well that my dad wouldn't leave Patricia and her mom with nothing.

"Now I'm going to read Roberto's will." Robson took the document out of the envelope and began to read. "To Alessandra, this extraordinary woman, I leave the mansion she lives in today." Alessandra continued calmly and with her head down, just listening. She hasn't said much so far and hasn't even had the luxury of responding to my mother's teasing. "For Patricia, my dear daughter, I leave a penthouse apartment in the city center." Patricia looked at me, giving me a contained smile. "For Paula, the woman who ruined my life, I leave the mansion we live in together, to ease my conscience."

"What? How can he talk like that about the woman who gave him his firstborn?"

I wouldn't be the firstborn if she didn't give birth before the date, I could have died. She deserved to hear that.

"For the succession of my company, as stated in the bylaws, it is for the eldest son, as I did not have a male child, it is for the daughter who gets married first".

"What?" Patricia and I talk at the same time.

I saw Conrado smiling at me, he hoped to marry me to have some control as president of the company and I wanted to find an excuse to break up with him, now that excuse has been washed away.

“I set a year for one of my daughters to get married, until that happens, the succession will be in charge of my partner. After a year, he will be able to decide whether to transfer the company to one of my daughters, whether he will run the company with them, or whether he can take over if he wants to. That is, if none of them are married, otherwise they will assume who is married. ”

Robson collected the sheets and placed them back in the envelope. People who were at the meeting start to leave.

"Wait a minute, didn't my dad include me in his will?" I asked in anguish.

"You can run the company with Francisco's son," Robson said calmly.

"That's if your partner's son wants it. I can't believe he left me with nothing." Robson waited for everyone to leave and spoke softly to me.

"I met Francisco's son, he's good with finance, but he doesn't know anything about business management. You can help each other."

"I don't want to run the company with someone on my tail, I would agree to run it with my sister and not someone I've never seen in my life." And when it came to that disgusting man's son, I only cared, especially if he was like his father.

“This is the only way you won't be left with nothing. I've already talked to him and on Monday he comes here to see the company."

"We'll wait until Monday to see what happens."

We left the meeting room, he left and I went to the presidency room, where Antonio was sitting in my chair.

"Leave! I say at once."

“Instead of being against me, I think it would be good to join our forces.” I started to laugh, what audacity!

"What do you have to offer me? Whether I'm in the presidency or not, you're out of the company."

"You'll prefer to share the company with a stranger if that stranger wants you as president."

I'm at a crossroads, depending on someone I don't even know, to put my plan into action and fulfill a promise I made years ago.

"What do you plan?" He smiled at me and stood up.

"The will was very clear, you could assume the presidency, marrying someone." He walked over to me and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "I could sacrifice myself." He ran a hand over my neck. “And in the end we can have some fun.” Not fucking, how gross! He was thirty years older than me. I pulled his hand away from me and headed for my chair.

"Thanks for your offer, but I'd rather risk working with a stranger."

"Good luck, you'll need it. But my offer will remain valid." I rolled my eyes as he walked out of my office.

I took my pendant and opened it looking at our photo, feeling a great anguish in my chest. I could not and do not want to give up on my plans, I will do everything to achieve my goal.

"Nothing will stop me from bringing you back to me."

I kissed the frame, tucking it back inside my shirt. I had found a large chain, so as not to have onlookers wanting to know what is inside the frame. It was hidden in my shirt. Not even when he wore a cleavage, the pendant was displayed. However, that never stopped some people from asking, even my sister asked, but I never said what he meant to me.

I packed my things and left, not believing how my day was. I couldn't believe my father didn't leave me anything, I did everything to show my efficiency. I remembered when I was a child and I went to give my dad a razor as a Father's Day gift. I pasted a small letter designed and written by me into the shaver with duct tape and placed it on his desk in his office. He took the razor, crumpled the letter and said to me:

"Don't put trash on my desk."

He threw my letter in the trash, didn't even read it, and put the razor away without thanking me. This was the first and last gift I gave him.

Arriving home, I found my mother in the living room, sitting on the sofa and some suitcases beside her.

"Are you going to travel again?"

"Those bags aren't mine, they're yours."

"How is it?"

Did I get it right? She's kicking me out of the house, what would Mom do that?

"Your father left this house to me and not you."

"I don't believe, in addition to never being a real mother, you're going to put your only child out of the house?"

"Your father saw no use for you in life, why would I still want you here?"

I was surprised how bad this woman could be.

"I'm not leaving this house."

"Either you leave or I call the police."

It was exactly what I needed, to end my day, stuck. This woman doesn't miss waiting.

"One day you will need me." She laughed.

I took my bags and left that mansion, I didn't even check if all my things were there and at that moment it didn't matter. I'm in shit! I had nowhere to go, my father didn't even leave a place to live, my only way out was to ask for shelter for my sister. I hoped they wouldn't turn their backs on me, after all, I've always gotten along well with them and if they throw me out, I'll have to find a place to park my car to sleep in it.

Arriving at Alessandra's mansion, I pressed the doorbell, the maid welcomed me and the security guards carried my bags into the house.

"What happened?" asked Patricia, noticing my bags.

"Dona Paula threw me out of the house."

"I can't believe your mom did this?"

"Yes, she did. I can spend the night here, tomorrow I'll find a place for myself."

"Of course I do my dear! You can stay as long as you need" said Alessandra as she entered the room.

She opened her arms calling me to snuggle into her, I hugged her and started to cry. My tears were of resentment, of anger at my father, for not leaving me a roof to live, my mother's lack of consideration, for having thrown me out of the house, lack of love from the two who thought money would buy the love that they never knew how to have for me, and a lot, a lot of hate for my father, for thinking I need a man in my life, to be able to run that company.

"I can't believe your father did this to you, there must be some error in his will," Alessandra said.

"I don't know, Monday, I see what my life will be like."
