Chapter 9: Broken & Home

"I doubt that, I'll talk to you later then?" He asked she smiled feeling a slight spark of happiness to have a friend, she really needed one.

"Yeah, Goodbye." Emerald hung up turning back to the man who laid in the hospital, "That was your brother, he looks exactly like you. I know you would like him, he has a heart of gold." She waited for the response she knew was never gonna come, she couldn't help the tears that fell from her eyes. "Please come back to me." She cried into his chest feeling her heartbreak over and over again.

Someone cleared their throat catching her attention, she wiped away her tears facing the person at the door. William stood watching her, it broke his heart to see her sad, like it broke his heart to see Daniel quiet not making horrible jokes they would laugh at.

"I can come back later." She shook her head holding her hand out which took in a few steps. He took a seat beside her staring up at Daniel. "I miss him," William whispered, Emerald smiled sadly.

"I miss him too, the doctor said he's doing well, his chances of living are higher than the last." He grinned happily but another heavy topic weighed on his shoulders.

"That's good...But I didn't come here to talk about this Atwood." Emerald sighed knowing they were going to talk about Darius once again.

"I won't tell him anything, I couldn't even if I wanted to, I know you contacted his father, he made me sign an NDA so could you leave I want some alone time with him." William nods doing as told.

Amoy sat in the conference room with one of the authors she was trying to sign onto her team and her assistant. "In that, we can-" Michael cuts her off.

"Ms Tyler, I've had this conversation with 10 other companies before, what can you offer me that none of those other companies can?" Amoy grinned as she hoped he would ask that question.

"A name." She told him, he made a gesture for her to continue. "Many good authors aren't known because they haven't been receiving the right exposure, or in this case the right people that care enough to give them that expose, many companies just see writers as another way to get income, but with my company, I'm hoping to help every author who's struggling to rise in society, and I'm doing all that starting with you, so what do you say?" Michael smiled shaking his hand as he stood.

"I'll be in touch, Ms Tyler." She sent him a smile as well.

"I'm counting on it. Bob escort them out please." Her assistant did as asked while Amoy packed up her files before leaving the conference room.

"So do you have a date to the charity event?" A familiar voice inquired walking beside her.

"Yes I do, my husband, and how are the preparations for the event coming along Zane?" He frowned at her response.

"It's going good their almost finished, you can go check if you want to." She checked the time seeing she had some spare time.

"I will. Excuse me." She walked past him going to the elevator that led to the roof, where the event was going to be held.

"John, how is it going?" Amoy questioned the worker.

"Good, we're finishing it up, we'll be out of here in 1 hour." Her phone rang before she could reply.

"Excuse me, keep up the good work." John sent a nod her way as she entered the elevator once again answering her phone.

"Hello?"

"Ms Tyler, how are you?" The voice on the phone was not familiar, but it sounded like a male in their 40's even though she didn't know him nor see him, she could tell he was a very important man by just hearing his voice, it held power.

"Who is this?"

"A friend of a friend." She knew he wasn't going to reveal himself anytime soon most people would be pestered but she liked a good mystery.

"Quite vague but what can I do for you?" Walking out of the elevator she went back to her office.

"Nothing as of right, I just thought we should get acquainted." He admitted as she arrived at her office Bob was sitting around his desk taking calls and typing, he was ready to speak up but she stopped him making a gesture to her phone.

"To be acquainted wouldn't I have to know your name?" He chuckles.

"Not for this acquaintance, have a good day Amoy." She sighed hearing the call end, putting her phone away her eyes met Bob's.

"Sorry about that, what were you saying earlier?"

"The Winters are still waiting on your answer, the Marketing team wants to have a meeting after the event. Also, your dress is ready should I send someone to pick it up or will be going for it?" He handed her a cup of coffee as he spoke.

"Tell the Winters I said no their contract was shitty maybe make this sentence prettier and friendlier. Tell the team I said ok and I'll pick up my dress on my way home." She told him before going to her office ready to sort and read the mountain of papers on her desk.

Darius quietly cleaned the house while trying his best to compose his thoughts, even though Xavier had told him a million times he didn't need help with his chores, but like always he ignored his words and helped him clean anyways, there were some days Darius would sit, read a book and drink whiskey.

As much as Darius wanted to work that would just be another way for Amoy's family to mess with his life and hers because anything he did reflected her. They learned that the hard way but that was a story for another time.

"Darius," Xavier called out announcing his arrival, a sigh left Darius.

"I know you said no cleaning but—" He cut him off.

"It's fine, I was just telling you the event will start in an hour so it's best you start getting ready."

"It's already 7? shit thank you, Xavier." The butler nods taking the broom from him, before he rushed upstairs to take a shower.

Just as he went upstairs, Amoy arrived dress in hand, Xavier immediately greeted her. "Ms Tyler how was your day?"

"It was fine, is he ready?"

"He's getting ready right now, you should too." She walked up the stairs going to her room, placing her dress on the bed she went to the bathroom stripping, before stepping in the shower.

The water fell against her body gently, giving her warmth and the feeling of freeness. She was so tired of life, she could remember the countless times she wanted to give up, the times she broke down crying. Many saw Amoy as a strong woman, but she was just a broken one, still trying to get the approval of people who didn't give two fucks about her.

-

Darius stepped out of the shower, taking his towel from the hanger drying his wet skin, he moved in front of the mirror staring into it, he couldn't remember the last time he felt at home, many people would kill to live in a mansion but no one truly knows how lonely and empty one could be, sometimes the best company is yourself but people are what makes a home, unfortunately, the people who lived here didn't know the first thing about a home or family.
