Chapter 10: Waist & Else

-

Darius and Amoy entered the car both dreading the night ahead of them. The ride was dead silent, there were few glances but no one said a word. "You both should be getting acquainted, we don't want the whole world knowing this marriage is fake," Xavier states, his eyes stayed on the road since he was driving the car.

Darius cleared his throat catching her attention as their eyes met. "How was your day?" He asked softly.

"It was fine, how was yours?" She replied turning her gaze back to the window, seeing how the cars, houses, animals and people disappeared within seconds this gave her comfort weirdly, it also reminded her that life doesn't wait on anyone.

"Good." Silence fell around them once again, Xavier sighed seeing there was no hope for them, if they couldn't convince him they were in love, they couldn't convince the dumbest person in the room.

"This is going to be harder than expected. Since you guys can't hold a conversation, Darius just compliment her, Amoy just smile and giggle at every word he says, touch his arm a few times, Darius hold her waist or hand when you both enter. Ok?" They both hummed in response letting him know they heard him.

Xavier could only hope his advice would work, he knew how much Amoy cared about her appearances, sometimes she could forget that Darius wasn't invisible to people as he was to her.

Amoy would be lying if she said she was comfortable around Darius, and Darius would be lying if he said he was comfortable around Amoy. They both came from two different worlds, they lived two different lives, she thought they could never have anything in common, he thought they could never have a meaningful conversation because of their different worlds.

The thing is they never tried they only assumed each other's lives because deep down they both were afraid of what would happen if they tried to understand each other.

-

As soon as they stepped out of the car, they were met by flashes of the cameras the paparazzi's held. "Remember what I told you both and you'll be fine, Darius hand on her waist." Xavier reminded them before driving off.

Darius pushed away his nervousness, he wasn't used to so many eyes watching him, he always blended into the background because 'he wasn't worth the attention' at least that's what Elizabeth always told him, he took his hand from his pocket, the minute his hand touched her waist he swallowed down the feelings that were threatening to rise. Amoy forced a smile making sure the cameras didn't catch how uncomfortable she looked in his hands.

Everyone saw him as her husband but she saw him as a stranger.

They stepped inside not a lot of people were in the lobby but the few that were in the room turned to the couple, everyone knew she was married, but they had barely seen the man with her, and she barely mentioned him whenever she did interviews, it was almost like he was a myth but seeing him in person let them know why she wanted to keep him hidden, he was a sight for the eyes.

Darius was about to move to the elevator but she stopped him, "I have a private elevator, come." She took the hand he had around her waist in her hand as she showed him the way to the elevator.

Once they entered she dropped his hand taking out her phone, checking the time while Darius strayed away from her line of sight, gripping the railing he felt as if he was going to throw up while the elevator moved.

It took a few seconds but her gaze went on him. "Are you ok?" He closed his eyes letting out the air he was storing, this calmed his nerves a bit since he turned her way nodding. "I'm fine, I'm just not a big fan of elevators." He admitted his grip on the railing tightened.

"Why not?" He was a little surprised she cared enough to ask but at the same time he wasn't, despite her saying their relationship was just a contract, he could tell she was saying that to protect herself, from what? He didn't know.

"It feels like I'm suffocating every time it moves," Darius explained just as the doors of the elevator opened, it was as if Amoy became a whole different person he watched her face turn cold she was now on guard knowing everyone would be watching them.

"Put your arm around my waist again." He did without hesitation, Darius would be lying if he said being around this many people, feeling this many eyes on him wasn't nerve-racking, but he pushed away what he was feeling and tried to focus on something else, his family, he hadn't seen them in a while, he missed them to death.

He cleared his throat before speaking up, "Is there anything I should know about these people?"

"No, just stand by my side and smile, like the perfect husband. I need to thank everyone for coming." She led him over to the stage taking up one glass of champagne handing Darius one just as they arrived on the stage, where the man played classical music on the piano.

Darius took his hand from her waist giving her space, watching her take the mic from the microphone stand.

"Hello everyone, thank you all for coming! The money you donate will be going to 5 different charities, so again thank you all, many people will be helped with the money." They all clapped with pride.

"Enjoy the champagne and wine, hopefully, you'll get tipsy enough to close a deal with me." They laughed at the joke before going back to their conversation she placed the mic in its rightful place, Amoy went back to Darius's side raising her brow at his full glass of champagne.

"You don't drink?" He nods.

"I do, this is my second glass." She smiled softly amused. "Here it looks like you need it more." She took the glass from him drinking it in one go. "I guess I was right." Her eyes moved to his, the smile on his face made hers dim realizing she was getting too friendly. He kept in a sigh watching as her whole demeanour changed.

"We need to go mingle." She told him, he took the empty glass from her hands placing it on the waiter's tray while he passed them.

William took in a deep breath before entering the room in front of him, immediately he was met by two powerful gazes that could bring someone to their knees and make them beg for forgiveness even if they did nothing wrong.

"Faith, Oscar. What can I do for you today?" He inquired while Faith made a gesture for him to sit in front of the desk where their chairs were located.

"Tell me about your daughter." William raised his eyebrow wondering where this conversation would lead.

"Why do you want to know about her?" Oscar got up from his chair taking up a bottle of scotch and 3 glasses, Faith and William watched as he poured the expensive drink into the glasses, he handed a glass to his wife and William.

"She's married to my son, I want to know if she's good enough for him." William knew Amoy and Darius weren't the perfect match but they weren't that bad.

"Amoy is a bit complicated." Well, that was one way to describe her.

"We know she's sleeping with one of her workers, not really daughter-in-law material."

"They aren't really married, what do you want me to do? I can't force them to like each other." He knew how stubborn his daughter was, she would ignore anything that meant she would have a relationship where she would have to feel something for someone other than herself.

"You can push them in that direction, convince Amoy to start taking interest before we find someone else who can." Now William knew he had to figure out a way to push them together or the deal he had made would be broken.
