Chapter 15: Compliments & Friend

-

Darius sat in the booth waiting on everyone to arrive, he thought Xavier and William would already be here since they had left an hour before him, but they were nowhere to be found. He looked around seeing every table filled with couples and families, while his table was empty, he had been getting looks of pity from almost everyone, he was even starting to pity himself as he drank his glass of water.

"Sir, you've been here for 20 minutes and your friends haven't arrived I'm going to have to ask you to give up your table." The waiter, Paul told him he sighed expecting this, just as he was about to get up a familiar voice spoke.

"I'm sorry, I'm late." Paul turned to Amoy, shocked at how beautiful she looked, Darius was even shocked himself. She wore a long one-shoulder black dress that had a slit at the side, that stopped at her upper thigh. Her luscious black curls fell past her shoulders, the makeup she wore highlighted her most stunning features. Her lips were coloured with the same bold red lips he saw her with this morning, he didn't know how but she had gotten even more gorgeous. She had him mesmerized.

He stood from his seat eyes never leaving her, "I'm sorry, who are you?" The waiter asked finally being able to focus,

Amoy showed her the huge diamond ring on her finger, flashing him her hypnotizing smile, she moved next to Darius, who felt like he was going to faint from the close proximity, he had to admit her scent was mouthwatering as it reminded him of roses and oranges.

"His wife, could you move us to a table for two, it turns out our friends won't be joining us." The man nods completely infatuated it took him a few seconds but he led them to their table, which was outside on the balcony, he even pulled out the chair for Amoy to sit.

"Thank you." Paul sent her a smile his focus only on her, this made an unfamiliar feeling rise him, Darius, as he cleared his throat breaking Paul from his trance. "Sorry about that, here are your menus, I'll be back in a few minutes to take your order." He cast Amoy one last glance before leaving.

"You look beautiful." The words left him before he could stop them, instead of looking away from her burning brown eyes, he continued to look into them, the moonlight fell upon her face giving him a chance to see every inch of her remarkable features, her eyes soften, that was probably the first she had ever heard someone compliment her without jealousy or desire in their eyes. She could feel something flutter in her stomach but she tried her best to ignore it as she looked at her menu. "Thank you, you look good as well." She told him softly, unable to look him in the eye as she said those words.

"Thanks. Why isn't your father or Xavier coming?" He inquired changing the subject while reading his menu.

"I don't know, he just said something came up." She reached over for her glass of water taking a sip, even though he and

Amoy have been alone in silence before he couldn't help but feel nervous as he felt like they were on a date, but he pushed that thought away knowing how stupid that was but little did he know Amoy was thinking the same.

"Do you understand the menu?" She questioned him since it was written in Italian, she met his eyes as he shook his head.

"I only know French and Spanish but what I do understand on this menu is Vegetable Lasagna and Spaghetti Napoli." Smiling, she closed her menu. "Then we'll have that." She said earning a smile from him.

"Are you sure?" Amoy nods making a gesture for the waiter, Paul immediately arrived at their table. "Ready to order?"

He asked her, she nods. "I'll have the Vegetable Lasagna with red wine and he'll have the Spaghetti Napoli with....white wine."

"I'll be back in a few minutes with your food." The waiter took both their menus before leaving. "How did you know I liked white wine?" He asked his wife.

"You weren't exactly subtle at dinner last night, I saw how you took savoured its taste...like it was the most delicious thing on earth," Amoy explained not meeting his eyes, he watched her smirking seeing the blush on her cheeks. That was the first time he had seen her so...Vulnerable.

"Well, you were right, white wine is my favourite type of wine." She looked over at him, that fluttering feeling in her stomach appearing once again, he stared at her as if she was the most interesting person in the room as if no one else mattered. She wanted to laugh knowing this was all in her head, she knew Darius could care less about her or was that what she wanted to believe so she had a reason to stay away from him?

"I'm sorry, I'm staring too much aren't I?" She shook her head sending him a small smile that seemed to send his heart crazy, he couldn't help but realize how she looked at him, her gaze was no longer cold it was soft like she realized something she had buried all this time, feelings she had buried...Paul came back with their food breaking their stare.

"Here you go, if you need anything, I mean anything, I'll be over there. Here's your napkin." He sent Amoy a wink before walking away, she looked down at the napkin seeing his phone number, she chuckled showing Darius, he smiled amused.

"I'm not surprised." He told her as he took a bite of his food.

"This tastes delicious."

"We can come here another time since you like the food." She said avoiding his gaze again, eating her lasagna. He smiled. "I would like that." Her phone buzzed in her purse, she took it out, reading the message, she got. He watched as all the emotion left her face, he lets out a sigh.

"What's wrong?" He asked she looked up from her phone meeting his eyes with that cold gaze as she handed him her phone, it was a picture of him and Emerald, she had her hand on his. "So much for 'she's just a friend." She said finishing her glass of wine in one go.

"She is just a friend. She was just comforting me, I told her something personal." Amoy was now curious, what had he told her? How personal was it?

"You don't have to explain yourself, let's just hope I can stop these pictures from spreading, I don't want people to know my husband has a side piece." There was the Amoy he knew, the closed-off, cold, only caring about her image, Amoy. He knew the little moments they were having were too good to be true, even if they had a relationship, her business life would always come first, he just had to accept that.
