The Quest

The abandoned secret cave was still illuminated by hundreds of wax candles as the old man reverend ambled his way to the room caved and drilled into the stone wall.

"What is it, old man?... Can you leave me alone for some time?"

William asserted as he began with an annoyed 'TCH'.

William Watts was lying on the stone bed molded of the same hard, rough rock, but thankfully the surface was chiseled and smoothened, it was the only relief the makeshift stone bed could provide him for now.

"Ahh... William..."

The Old Man shook his head as he shuffled towards a wooden chair, the only furniture they could muster and it was in William's possession.

"Don't you DARE SIT ON THAT!!. That chair is mine and mine only!!"

William roared.

The old man, who now found himself paralyzed because of the sudden outbreak of rage from the man before him, sighed and leaned against the barren stone wall.

"Why do you hate this old man this much?... What have I ever done to the respectful vessel of the Demon Prince Mammon?"

The reverend spoke his mind out as he began with slow and casual words. His words seemed to bear some sort of authenticity to them as he wavered.

"What has this old man ever done to that once cheerful little boy?..."

He asked the young man before him, who was, obviously pointing out that he didn't want the old geezer to be present inside his room.

But just as the old man shot his question towards him, William closed his eyes and settled his right arm on top of them, shielding them from the extra illuminating candles whose blurry light pierced through his closed eyes.

Even though he didn't want to, William could do nothing as his memories took him back to his memory lane.

All he could think as his memories manifested was what he wanted to say at that moment.

'My brain is such an asshole... It disagreed right when I imagined I didn't want to remember those effing memories...'

On the terrace of an abandoned building in City Bountress were two silhouettes in hooded cloaks.

The moon was full when it shone down on the hooded silhouettes, elucidating their details to the naked eye. It was as if the light bounced on them and went back to the moon itself.

One donned a blood red authentic leather cloak that had a pitch-black star etched on its very middle and stood out like a warning sign on the cloak.

Whilst the one who wore the red leather clock stood magnificently under the moonlight with his perfectly build body and tall trunk, the one beside him was just barely taller than his waist and he was a boy who was around the age of seven.

"You look so anxious Uncle Zerek... What's the problem?... Is the person we are going to deal with now stronger than you?"

The Hooded boy asked the man beside him, who was cracking his fingers and biting his lips.

"No, No William, The Hunter Monarch is not gonna be a problem in the slightest"

He replied with a nervous smile and paused as he shot a quick look at the redhead boy.

"Is it that obvious that I'm worried?"

Zerek chuckled as he tapped his feet on the tile floor.

"Pfft, It is totally obvious..."

The boy covered his mouth as he chuckled.

"Hehe..."

Zerek chuckled along with the boy he had met a year ago, he reminisced how weak the boy beside him was one year ago when he found him in the alleyway, completely traumatized and scarred with an unworthy ordeal.

"What am worried about is my wife..."

Zerek dropped his chuckle as his voice picked up a rather contradicting tone of voice.

"You HAVE A WIFE??... You ARE MARRIED??"

The completely dumbfounded boy, couldn't stop himself from shouting out questions to the man beside him.

"Ahh, Yes I do..."

He smiled.

The boy dropped his shoulder and stared into the illuminated road below him.

"You... never... said... that"

The boy mumbled as he stuttered to find words.

"In The Black Star, we don't reveal about our private lives, William... It is better to keep it a secret..."

Zerek replied. He settled his hands and balanced them on the wall which was just above his waist.

"So... does that mean... you don't trust me Uncle Zerek?"

William Watts inquired, his voice carried sorrow and it wavered as he spoke his heart out to Zerek who regretted to have spoken anything to him at all.

"It's not like that William. You were so into training that I didn't want to distract you from it... also what's that about me having no trust in you?... You are like the third person in the entire world who knows I have a wife!"

Zerek replied to the aggrieved boy.

"Woah? Is it?!! I'm the third person in the entire world???"

William found his cheerful side yet again as he heard his savior and role model reply to him.

"Yes.. *Chuckle*"

Zerek chuckled as he replied. Even though they were talking and having their time, Zerek had his eyes trained on the road through which, if the intel his Cult members provided were correct, their target would pass.

"But, other than me... who knows about this?"

William asked, his eyes were magnified like a kitten's as he craved for the answer.

"It should be obvious... The other two are the old man Joseph and my wife herself..."

Zerek answered back with a wink which he shot at Willaim.

"Oh... hehe... But why are you worried about your wife?... Is she... angry with you or something like that?"

William asked yet again.

"No... I love her a lot!!... and she does the same. But the thing is... She's pregnant..."

Zerek revealed.

"!!! But isn't that good news?"

William spoke with a question.

"Yes, it is... But what worries me is that..."

Zerek paused his words and peered at the full moon which glowed down on him at an equal intensity as well.

"She's undergoing labor as we speak..."

He finished his words.

William couldn't reply, Instead, the only thing he could do was gasp at the words.

"THEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??"

William roared.

"For the greater good William, I must finish this task..."

"But can't we send someone else from the cult?? I know I'm being immature, but aren't you supposed to be by her side?? Assuring her that everything's okay??..."

William raised his question, he was genuinely worried for his savior and the authenticity in his voice proved it.

"Hm?... I don't think that will be necessary, She's a pretty strong woman, you don't know her hehe..."

Zerek paused and chuckled.

But he dropped his chuckle as a car entered his vision frame.

"And the others... I'm pretty sure no one can handle our target..."

Zerek said as perched up on the wall, ready to jump and rush towards the car.

"After all, he's the Number 1 'Hunter Monarch'..."

*JUMP*

...

"..William?? William???.."

The Old man's voice drifted towards his ear as William shot his eyes open.

William had been reminiscing for the past 5 minutes, leaving the old man to himself.

"What is it??"

William shouted as he sat up and stretched his limbs.

"Umm... You were spacing out..."

He replied.

"So what?..."

William grunted.

"It's nothing..."

The old man seemed to hesitate and William noticed it.

"What is it, Old Man??... If you have something to tell me, just go on and break the ice, and get the fuck out of here"

William hummed to the reverend.

"Ah... So I have this task for you..."

The Old man began.

"Hm?... Nope, Not accepting tasks now, try again later..."

William went back to lying on his bed.

"Please William, I implore you to listen to me, because only you can do this task for us, for our Cult..."

"...."

William gave no importance to what the reverend said. He was bored of the tasks he had received for the past 14 years... almost all of them were very easy... just some killing here and there.

On top of that, from the previous year, from the day he was possessed by Mammon and come to an agreement with the demon, nothing had caught his eyes.

"Please William...Listen to me... What I'm going to say might pique your interest..."

The Old man once again requested to the man before him, who had been ignorant of his presence and was lying without any regard on the hard but chiseled stone bed.

"....."

"I know you have been bored because there was no one who could challenge you yet... So I hope you are listening to me..."

The Old Man paused for a second...

And continued.

"We found the presence of Demon Energy in City Bountress..."

The Old Man was sly, just like he thought, the name of the city was able to grab William's attention.

"So what?... It must be another Normal Demon... just send the others... I might accidentally kill it... and don't you dare disturb me again for these kinds of petty matters"

William rasped.

"You haven't listened to me completely yet William"

"Do I even have to?"

"Yes, William.."

"The entire reason why I'm requesting you, especially you!! to accept this task is because..."

The reverend paused as he breathed in some air.

"....."

"The Demon Energy we found in City Bountress... It's at least...."

"....."

"Hundred times bigger than yours"

"....."

"....."

"I'll Go"
